- We visit one of Michigan's first large Regional Malls.
After struggling in the early 2000's this place has survived even
after losing Sears as their major anchor.
The location in one of Michigan's wealthiest communities helps.
I worked at this mall way back in the early to mid 80s. At a store called "Shoeland". It was a small store but popular at the time. We were all young, in our 20s. Some good memories at that mall.
Stay tuned, we return this weekend to see what has changed in a year.
there used to be a Kresge , Harmony House , Simulation Station , Johnathon B Pub , and Kay Bee Toys
I remember them all. Harmony House corporate headquarters used to be at Maple and Chicago too!
The Hudson's restaurant.
WLLZ rules!
And a Wrigley grocery store.
Wicks and sticks in the 1990s and dont fotget Ferrell's Ice Cream in the west parking lot.
The Sears store now has both Hobby Lobby and At Home located in part of the space.
been there at least 150 times
I can't believe this thing is still kicking. Spent my youth here.
So nice to see an open mall!
I hung out there a lot when I went to Royal Oak schools. Then when I finished my schooling in Hazel park our school put on a concert there in or around 1981. Lots of good times at that mall. Looking at it now, I highly doubt I'll ever visit that place again. Its safer to shop online now.
Nice looking mall.
Seems like a nice mall!
Golden Chicken makes my favorite falafel sandwich. I get two every time. Oh, and I heard Fox On The Run and Break The Chain when I went today.
Haven't been in there in years. It looks the same, yet different, especially with the Sears gone. We had another, smaller mall about 5 miles away from this one called Universal. Completely gone now for the most part. All the stores are on the outside, along with a Target and Kroeger. Sad because that mall was such a staple of my childhood.
Them dollar movies at universal!!
Yup ,I grew up in the 70' s, universal was the main mall to go to then we also went oakland mall. GOOD TIMES!!!!!
as a teenager in the 1980s i remember entering the main doors ,left side was a steak house and the right side a jo an fabrics
Great Video!!!! I love the Fountain!!! F+L, Corey
Thanks for watching!
I miss Oakland mall.
It's still there, new stores have been opened in the last 2 years.
Hardly anyone there, i wonder what time he videoed this. I hope this mall doesnt close
Gregg Mac why is that name so familiar?
Actually looks a little bit nicer than the last time I was there. Still not a ton of people. It was the place to be back in the 80s. Not much worth going to nowadays except Macy’s and Dicks.
It’s no Somerset! 😂
Nice mall.
Thanks for visiting
Dead. I wonder what it will be in 5 or 10 yrs. Shame hopefully they wont tear it down.
GOLDEN CHICKEN, my fave spot growing up haha
