Let's Start the 2024 Detecting Season off!
It's not as dead as I thought it would be.
Boy did I hang out at this mall from around 1984 to1986, during my final undergraduate years at Michigan State University. That's where I saw "Back to the Future," "Fight Night", "St. Elmo's Fire," and many other iconic movies from that era. That's where I probably bought most of my music cassette tapes, as well as clothes with those loud 80s prints. But as I'm looking at this video, sadly I don't see any landmark or recognize anything specific that would remind me of those days. Maybe the entrance if at all. But anyway I do know I had great times there with my college buddies.
So sad to see this Mall so empty. A lot of my childhood was spent in this Mall. I remember when it was packed and hard to find parking spaces. Thanks for sharing!
That's not dead, I can show you some really DEAD MALLS LOL
Who asked you if you were recording at 15:41?
I am sad that they removed taco bell from the mall but i guess it's good that i at least went to it before it closed, i wonder where the employees went to work after they closed it down
if they all pointed their garden hoses toward where lake was and every house turned in spiket and left on I bet it would be filled in a month
It looks like a highschool on outside
Was that originally the small mall?
I hung out there a lot when I went to Royal Oak schools. Then when I finished my schooling in Hazel park our school put on a concert there in or around 1981. Lots of good times at that mall. Looking at it now, I highly doubt I'll ever visit that place again. Its safer to shop online now.
Golden Chicken makes my favorite falafel sandwich. I get two every time. Oh, and I heard Fox On The Run and Break The Chain when I went today.
Hardly anyone there, i wonder what time he videoed this. I hope this mall doesnt close
On Sunday September 1, 2024 I was walking through this mall, and I was filming on my cell phone it was my birthday and I wanted to tape some of the sights of my experiences. Suddenly, as I entered a store I was attacked by a man who had a turbin on his head he started screaming at me and accusing me of filming his kids. He tried to take my phone and he demanded me to start deleting videos and even pictures that were unrelated to the mall. I was very scared and I had to leave quickly to get away from the building.
Was there yesterday. About a dozen more stores are gone, including the USPS. I remember when it opened - I opened both the Target and Spencer Gifts (in their original location). Haven’t been to PH in a couple decades, so this was a shock. Sad.
Its even worse now no food court at all
Dead. I wonder what it will be in 5 or 10 yrs. Shame hopefully they wont tear it down.
I miss lord and taylor 16:00,😢 really love this mall and watching
This is old. The original Key North Beach Shop burned down about five years ago.
I’m coming here just for the diversity of life on earth gashapons
Thank you for the detailed walk through!
Gregg Mac why is that name so familiar?
Ghetto dump now and dangerous cus of the large teen groups causing trouble. Also only like 2 restaurants left in the food court compared to lot more years ago. Blame the north end ghettos that hang out there
Love skateboarding the stairs the people suck so
Sorry the carousel staff stepped out , but you should have stopped by there first! It's a beautiful carousel and only a dollar to ride!!🎉 but yeah you need something no one wants to listen to to you breathe for 23 mins.😊
Not entirely true some people do like videos without commentary
Was just there yesterday. It’s nice to be in a mall. Stores still open, fair amount of folks shopping 🛍️
GOLDEN CHICKEN, my fave spot growing up haha
All rings? Hmm
as a teenager in the 1980s i remember entering the main doors ,left side was a steak house and the right side a jo an fabrics
In 1997, this mall was very first Jeepers! location in the metro Detroit area.
I remember Briarwood Mall in the early 80s, it was packed full of people. Now it's a ghost town. Why bother keeping it open? Maybe it's that LOUD music blasting throughout the mall that keeps people away!
Kohan is the kiss of death for malls along with Namdar and Moonbeam so I wonder how long this mall will last
Wait what's wrong having a lot of Gen Z's hanging out at this mall, most of us are adults now
As a "boomer" I actually think if malls moved more toward being activity centers over primarily shopping centers it could attract more of the Gen Z market. Younger folks are looking for fun energetic stuff to do and adding such venues to existing malls would be a definite draw, not to mention stimulate kiosk business in the common areas (food & coffee stands, etc). Keep some space for retail shops to maintain variety. As long as people are there for laser tag & go-carting they may want to take a break and peruse a few stores. The old shopping mall model relied on big-retail anchors. Those big retailers are either going out of business or closing their mall locations, leaving malls without what had been their very life blood. Perhaps the key is to shift focus and fill these vacated anchor spots with more activity-based centers that appeal to Gen Z patrons. Just my half-a-cent.
Matthew 17:20 If You Have Faith Of A Mustard Seed, Nothing Will Be Impossible To You 🙏🏼
I’m going there tomorrow has there new stores came in
RIP Lakeside. It's closing for good tomorrow. 😢
Macomb Mall for a hot second was a PVP enabled area in the past, but they cleaned it up hardcore. Honestly it is bustling compared to other malls outside GLC it seems.
i lived there in the late 90s and it was get oh. But universal mall was the most depressing. Oakland Mall was the the place
Grew up in this mall. Shoulda seen it in the 70's & 80's and even into the early 2010's. It was quite the hoppin' place in the day.
Like the community it's located in, a real sh_ hole.
Spent many years there as a kid. Sears, Harmony House, etc. Sorry, but its now a dangerous area, hotels around it with drugs, prostitution, robberies. Not SAFE!!!
I remember when they built that mall yea it was cool we were getting a mall, but it killed downtown port huron ,sad i really like shopping and walking down town when there was businesses down there ,that mall like all other malls are dead because of online shopping ,thanks for sharing
Sad i remember when that place was the place to go ,busy as shit girls everywhere ,shame what online shopping has done to these places ,sadly that place still looks very modern ,but its dead shame
You need narration and history to make this interesting.
I don’t live in Michigan anymore
I’ve even worked at a job at Briarwood mall when I was a high school student
What happened to the big purple disc sculpture? I remember that when I was a kid.

I grew up in there. I was born in Ypsilanti Michigan, and so were my two sisters at Saint Joe’s hospital.

I can't believe this thing is still kicking. Spent my youth here.
At 00:25 minutes (it was like quicksand for several years)😂🎉 I call BS and so does thousands of other people therefore everything you say after that is???????
This mall was new when I was pretty young. Spent a lot of time here. I appreciate the video as it lets me see the mall again today. I actually worked at a clothes store for a few months here too. And my father once saved a young child who fell into the fountain by the glass elevator. ✌️
