  • I have rebuilt several of these transmissions, yet this is the first time I have seen one behind the good ole 4.0L I6 engine. Most of them I have done were out of wranglers, yet had the 3.8L V6 engine. Interesting how they took the A606 and modified it for a RWD/4x4 platform. Note the many similarities, and subtle differences. Make sure to watch snapring locations!! Also save yourself a lot of headache and use your slide hammer and adapter for pump removal to remove the output shaft extension. And you're welcome. Ill do a case build-out, drum and pump, and Valve body vids on this as well. Note this is a non VLP transmission, the later I believe starting around 2007 had the gov pressure solenoid and transducer for main line pressure control.

I have a 42RLE in my 2009 Challenge SE. Ive been having issues where its telling me it has an error immediately after shifting which i found is usually associated with a gear ratio error, which in my case is 3rd gear. So I believe it put itself into limp mode and will stall out at slow speeds (typically 30-35mph). Lots of what I read online pointed to the solenoid pack being the cuplrit when it starts to go bad so I decided I will do my first ever service on a transmission, only to pull the pan down and see large metal chunks of what appears to be a snap ring. Was super intimidated to even drop a trans but after seeing this im feeling much more confident

they are notorious for breaking snap rings! the drum is the only thing that is 'difficult'. as you pull a snap ring keep it with the plates and clutches it holds down. makes reassembly easier

Great video thank you so much for presenting this in the way that you did it seems to be old hat for you
I've worked on a lot of manual transmissions mostly for race cars and most of that formula race cars and never really had a need to worry about automatic transmissions but as you get later in life you tend to want things easier in your day-to-day so automatic transmissions become more of a regular thing and with that the need for the knowledge...
    Thanks again

What happened to the rest of the video parts? Would much like to see the valve body tear down and the complete rebuild.

Excellent video, really informative. To remove the front pump do you have to remove the valve body before?

Hello dear man! I am writing to you from Russia. I have a Dodge Nitro 3.7L automatic transmission 42 rle. I lost reverse speed, sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not. please tell me what is the reason for the lack of speed? I will be very grateful to you.

Any opinion on just replacing the torque converter when the TCC code P0740 is caught early? I can diy the torque converter for about $150 and the transmission performs great otherwise.

perhaps but the teflon seals are on the input shaft and seal of inside of stator, also if material from lock up clutch is shed will need to other unit issues.

@@gunterding_performance9558 Thanks for the info. The converter will be $150 since I can do it myself vs $2500-3000 for a rebuilt transmission. So I’m going to run it and see what happens haha
