I'm overwhelmed! We're opening a small boutique store and need a website/some online product shopping/card reader for in-store purchases. Does SquareSpace eCommerce plan (for website) and buying a Square Reader for instore purchases sound like the right way to go? Or Shopify with Shopify POS on an ipad or square reader. I'm so confused LOL!
Hey, Sherri! Shopify and Square are two different companies but they offer very similar services, giving your business the tools to sell in person and/or online. You could use Shopify with an iPad and Shopify card reader, or Square with an iPad and Square reader. You will also get an online store with either option! If you're interested in comparing Shopify & Square even further, check out our full comparison post. Best of luck! www.merchantmaverick.com/shopify-vs-square/
I have a square cash register for my store. When I tried to learn about all the different options to integrate a website with my register, I discovered through a lot of frustration that squareSPACE and square are actually two different companies. So the SquareSPACE website I was playing around with had nothing to do with my square register. The amount of confusion with companies with a similar name was....ugh I'm still trying to figure out the best way to go as my square register and creating a square website has been a pain in the butt. Everyone else in my industry seems to like Shopify so I am investigating that....and a couple of retailers in my shopping center has a Shopify POS so they can track inventory all together...which is what I was hoping with Square...it's just not as user friendly as everyone is telling Shopify is....however, people are saying shopify is a little more expensive.
I'm hoping you can help. I am wanting to personalize my background videos for a fee. I need a platform for ordering, accepting payment etc. I also need a way to transfer the files to customers which will be 30 minute downloadable video files. Do you have a recommendation on any of these services? I did try to set up a shop on Shopify at one point. I found it entirely complicated but I know it gets a lot of use. Is it me or do others tend to find Shopify difficult to navigate? I think the biggest hurdle is transfer of files. It would be a dream if one service did it all. Any input would be super helpful...
Hi there! Shopify really does sound like your best bet here to meet your requirements. If you find the platform too complicated you should see if Square is more intuitive for you. You could also check out Wix, which has some basic POS functionality. We hope this helps! 💪
@@MerchantMaverick Thank you for your recommendations. They are very helpful! I have a Wix account. I had no idea they had POS options. I will for sure check it out. Thank you!
Both of these POS systems are great for small bakeries or cafes. We tend to give Square some of our highest marks across the board for ease of use and affordability but we'd also consider Toast. Here's a little more in depth information on some of our favorites systems for cafes or bakeries. We hope this helps! www.merchantmaverick.com/the-best-pos-systems-for-cafes/
My big question is which one is more reliable for payouts I have heard that Square has a tendency of holding businesses payouts for long periods of times or having to fight for them to release the payments
That is one of the issues with Square although they have improved in that department. You generally shouldn't have much issue with fund holds unless you're operating a high-risk business like a dispensary. If that is your primary concern, however, Shopify does have a slightly better reputation when it comes to payouts.
Been with Square 2 years and they never held my funds. My payouts are next day depending on how late I get paid invoices. As long as your paperwork is good, they are excellent!
Have you tried either Shopify or Square? 👀 Let us know your thoughts below!
