This song is so beautiful as it is utterly depressing. Total blunt honesty, expressed in beautiful melody and harmony. I am so glad I recently discovered Andy Shauf...
I don't think it's depressing at all. It's the stunning admission of male intimacy and love where those expressions are so rare in our culture. It speaks to Andy's sensitivity as a human. I love the sentiment of this song, and it should be a reminder to all men out there that it's OK to be outwardly loving towards other dudes to rid ourselves of the toxicity we've been so plagued by forever.
Or a way to personalize our traumas and try to understand it by giving a name. Kind of like hitting rock bottom when we realize we need to change what we're doing but not quite ready to rally make the change in that minute and laughing it off
Absolutely beautiful, and I thought the album version was flawless! This song perfectly captures the feeling I have experienced for many, many male friends. I’ve found it hard to get really close to my male friends without sometimes there being the suspicion that I may also be “in love” with them. I’m gay, and yes, I’ve found friends attractive in the past, but I was just so happy to have a connection with someone else who was willing to be real. Long story short, these kinds of connections are hard to maintain when both parties start dating and your close connection becomes under investigation. I had a best friend in college; someone I actually felt was like a brother from outside family. He was straight and white. As soon as we graduated college, his father cut our friendship off. He didn’t think his son should have a gay friend and that the optics would look weird to other friends and family. I have not heard from that guy in years. He listened, obeyed his father and ended a deeply meaningful friendship because of someone’s else’s opinions. Didn’t even like or love this guy, I was just happy to have made a lifelong friend in college. I was shocked by the entire experience, and I still don’t think I’m over it. This song helps the healing with time.
That's sad to hear, It's unfortunate that a person's sexuality can cause people to completely disregard them as a person. Hope you're doing better nowadays and find some friends that really value who you are regardless of your sexual preference. If it helps you seem to have great taste in music!
oh man, that sucks, I think it happened to many guys tho. I had a sad reaction like this once with a high school friend, but we see each other again now, I presented my apologies for not having been a good friend at the time, and he's a happily married man now. I also feel like some guys have difficulties gaining independence from their "possessive" dads sometimes (I know I do ). Specially when we have them in high regards and can't imagine one second disappointing them even if they're actually wrong. Time will cure it one of this days tho, I'm sure of it, courage mon ami ! :)
Bruh bein in love sucks but also keeps you going in life hoping that some day it will work out Then you forget about it a few years later when It didn’t work out Then you remember and fall in love again The saga repeats
What's the deal with each other's black and white photo? At least I saw one taped on the piano which looked like this Neagan guy (the drummer) and another one top of the hi-hat stand that looks like the bassist... It'd be funny if it was one of those inside jokes where the drummer has the bassist's photo cause the drummer and the bassist need to be tight and pay most attention to each other since drummer is the time keeper for example..just thinking out loud...So does anyone KNOW WHY THOSE PHOTOS ARE THERE? I'm dying of curiosity...
Just heard this for the first time today and I've listened to it at least 12 times now. It is addictive and beautifullll more emotion provoking than any song I've heard I think.

He misses you. Your memories will remain and the strength you both made to be friends will continue in both of your lives to be strong and grow

Awesome musicianship. Love how reduced and precise those guys are playing.
the guitar lick at 2:02 adds something so unique and simple compared to the studio version, i kinda love it
Great catch, didn't even noticed!
00:18 it's simply just a Hammer on between changing chords. Pretty basic shit... Still he really makes it sound special. Love Andy
fr such a simple touch, but so brilliant wish it was in the studio recording.
can't stop listening
Neagan on drums really brings this song together.
He really hit a home run
Bruh bein in love sucks but also keeps you going in life hoping that some day it will work out

“Does it ever feel like that to you”
i think i prefer this more stripped back version than the album...ridiculously good recording

I want to know who Jeremy is. He's mentioned in a couple songs.
just the person he writes about
He's a made up character. I think it just represents a typical close male friendship.
I think it’s Jenny. He wrote a couple songs with her name when he first started too
@@trsc32 it’s Jeremy.
Jenuamy
Is that the drummer from Timber Timbre?
Yes!
You should check badbadnotgood cover to this.
