About 3 years ago, I replaced the Dometic AC unit in my motorhome with the 15k BTU + heat pump version of that Houghton AC unit and have been very pleased with it. I also like the dehumidifier function. It has held up great and does a fantastic job of both cooling and heating. Just one thing to watch for. Even when the filter looks pretty clean, if there is anything at all in it, during periods of heavy draw on really hot days, it tends to shut down and give an error code. So on the really hot days of 110+ here in Arizona, I slide the filters out. Probably not a great solution, but it works for me. One minor disappointment with the unit is that I had intended to be able to take the thermostat to bed with me since it is a remote. However, I learned that it is an IR remote, not an RF remote. So it only works in direct line of sight to the panel.

Hi! I think it’s going to work just fine on those really hot days. We’ve been in the mid 80’s recently and running on low worked fine. We’ve only ran it on battery for about 20 minutes. We’ll do an update video:)

I'm thinking of a 12V AC unit ... The new Cirrus 920s 🚚come with a 12V AC along with a lithium package to run it continuously... Not cheap but probably worth it depending on one's budget. Also, I'm interested in hearing how efficiently the dehumidifier functions on your RecPro and if it keeps up with the humidity in the camper. I've seen some folks mention it might not be as robust as their factory AC unit when it comes to dehumidifying. In fact they had to supplement with a small tabletop dehumidifier. 🧐

I have checked on the Truma that they are using in the new 920. I am pretty sure it is 120 and they run it through the inverter. I could be wrong but I havent seen where Truma is producing a 12 volt unit. I am also considering going 12 volt for our boondocking. What unit are you interested in? I have been eying the velit.

It's all just a matter of preference. I like the volume of my dometic since it drowns out all other outside noises. I am solo so earphones takes care of listening to iPad. The extra power of the dometic nice to have if needed but lower power model you switched to is better when using a portable gennie. Of course if the dog doesn't like the old one well that is a no brainer then.

I have seen in other videos on this AC that when you first start it ! Set to 60 on high fan until you hit desired temp then set your temp. Also if you have erratic operation of compressor not running long enough change batteries first. My question to you is . How do you think that size would work in a 170 extended Sprinter?

Noise really does not matter as much as power usage. We snowbird here in the Keys from December to early May and run a DC powered EcoFlow Wave AC unit off batteries. The unit draws ~400 watts during the 80 degree days. 90 degree days it draws 500 watts. The Coleman one that came with the Lance 850 we use down here pulls ~1150 watts on 120 volts.😮
The EcoFlow is whisper quiet run off DC power. When sun is low round 5ish pm power draw from there over night on DC batteries is ~350 watts of power. Oh and did I mention whisper quiet.😊
