    The soviets seem to keep builiding defences to the right - why not swap the MCVs around and see if that makes a diffrence?

      The allies did that too (building static defences on the wrong side that is). Problem was that the need to build power meant that soviets weren't building double war fac. When soviets have double war fac, they win.
      I agree tesla coil was the single cause of soviets losing.

      The AI does this in the PlayStation versions of red alert/retaliation too. It makes skirmish maps a bit boring as they usually clog up their base with units and defenses so they can't move. At least the pc version you can fix it with mods. Fun game though.

      @@SJ23982398 I believe source for recently remastered edition was released although best bet would be to build any ai customization around OpenRA which is an open source re-implementation of the original 90's engine/game using original assets, as the mechanisms for OpenRA and modability are probably better documented.

    Battle 2:
    Soviets built only one factory vs Allied 2 factories. Why wouldn't you build 5 an click tank until your finger goes numb?

    Kinda shame they don't go for Advance Tech. Wudda been interesting to see how things would change with Mammoths, MADs, Chronotanks and like thrown in among the rest. If there were some AI mods available, I'd love to see them pitted against eachother in this format.

      They dont have the space, you can clearly see they have a build order and they run out of room before they get to the radar dome.

      Another critical factor is build time. Maybe with more space to put more war factories to cut down production time on the big guys

    Soviet was limited by its ai.ini (space between building parameter) so have less numbers of barracks and factory count and failed easily. u put both sides on open ground with larger building area, Soviet will surely win.

      Yeah, they have the better units and base defenses to benefit from the free cost, but the limited space combined with prioritizing power plants for poorly placed tesla coils is pretty crippling.

    I suggest you try the same sequence of maps, only switching sides between the factions.
    Two out of three times Soviet only builds one War Factory. This might have to do with the algorithm template for the AI. Both teams seem to place their structures in a similar way, with exception for unique structures. Chirality for this "base template" don't seem to mirror to compensate for each side. Both AI's just keep on building from the same semi-randomized order.
    I I'm not sure, but starting on the left side might be an advantage for pure technical reasons?
    Either way, great video!

    i'd like to see it modded with full tech on both sides, a larger map, and some water spots for naval warfare. maybe throw in some randomized starting locations? soviets kept pushing to the right for some reason, which is weird because communism is a deep left idealogy. that's some meta shit.

    I remember that I did stuff like this in garrys mod with different enemy types. I love it.
    Please, if you continue making these, which I very much hope so, givbe both sides distinguishing colors. This time it was a bit hard for me as a colorblind person to keep the units apart.

    Unless Soviet is able to build two War Factories like the Allies - the match is already done in favor to the Allies. Soviet units are heavier and less cost effective. With unlimited production Soviet would have beaten the Allies all times out of three. In theory thay is =)

    The allies at a disadvantage though.
    Soviet build queue: heavy tank, tesla tank
    Allied queue: APC, jeep, light tank, artillery, medium tank
    If allies only build med tank they would probably do way better

    I liked the Soviets early strategy of flooding the front line with powerplants to sponge alot of enemy fire, giving them an edge, but the allies really spied that straight off

    soviet lost because of tesla coils, it needs more space for powerplants which slowed it's production on tesla tanks.

      Also the interesting tendency of the Soviet AI to place most of its coils against the back edge of the map, away from the enemy until it's too late.

    1 Army vs army on a map with a lot of brdiges would be cool to see how they'd adapt if the bridge got destroyed.

    Looks like Allies place structures more efficiently so they always end up with 2 war factories which is decisive.. or it has gotta do with faction specific buillding queue

    Here both allied and soviets take the same time to build their initial tanks, which means the allies lose their advantage. C&C is speed (allies) vs power (sovs).

    Interesting how much seems to come down to target priority, the allies lost quickly when they didn't target the tesla tanks which were then free to take out the infantry. When they effectively targeted the tesla tanks they seemed to make steady progress into the soviet base. Of course, bad choices in buildings had an impact too - the soviets apparently preferring to build more power even when their last war factory was destroyed.

    Allied, well AI logic: build 9 war factories exactly in the same spot where they get destroyed. Well, Soviet was doomed after construction yard was destroyed, or a minute before. Nice video.

    Anyone else notice that any scenario where a tesla tank and ANY other type of unit was near the allies they went after the other unit? I think that's what cost them the first battle. Watching multiple tesla tanks survive longer than any other unit knowing they have such weak armor was frustrating.

    it seems to me that the allies would win more than soviets by default on small scale area's like these. their script seems to tell them to built that second war factory early on. if the map is clogged by units or other buildings, the soviets would be too late with building that second factory and will always lag behind in vehicle production.

    Try a basketball bracket styled map. 8 AI with narrow pathways linking the first pairs. The AI will hopefully fight the closest opponent first. Then there will be a path that converges to the second area where the victors will fight it out in. They will need to defeat the very close enemy before moving on. The last one standing wins.

    I still think the Soviet AI is bugged. They seem to stick to about 5 units tops, while the Allies don’t and they build the full suite

    It looks like the Soviets have a difficult time massing up their army, but if they can hit critical mass, they can roll the Allies back and crush them. Also, it was interesting to see that the Soviets built a kennel in the last battle, but then never made any dogs. I think the Allies will tend to win knife-point engagements, while the Soviets have the edge in more openly spaced battles where they have time to mass up their superior vehicles.

    These small maps cripple the soviets because they don't have the room to expand so are always low power and are then handicapped further because they are always low power so can't place their end war factory and their main defences don't work while having longer build times.

    I notice something very peculiar. Why does the soviet AI build flame towers and tesla coils on the far edge back of the base, rather than at the front? The allies AI at least spreads out their defences.

      Buildings gradually lose health (except power plants) when there isn’t enough power for them all. But it’s so slow and would take hours for a base to actually be destroyed that way so you don’t usually notice it. The setting that makes health bars appear when things are damaged makes it a lot more noticeable though.

    Multiplayer ohne Kosten wäre ja auch mal interessant. Da würde man mal sehen, wer die besten Fähigkeiten hat.

    I would expect Soviets to be strong in this mode since they use stronger units in exchange of being more costly but if everything is free and instant that nullifies that downside

      Soviet would win all the rounds with just more build space like in the first round, they often ran out of space for power and Warfactory so they were low power.
