You love great vocals *and* theatrics? Yep, you've found the right group! Geoff really took center stage on this track, but once you start listening to VoicePlay a bit more you're going to quickly realize that every single one of these guys are remarkable vocalists. Even Layne, the vocal percussionist (not to take away from that- he's one of the best in a cappella) has a truly sweet baritone that we are occasionally gifted to hear from time to time. Eli (rhymes with 'jelly'), the bald tenor, is an absolute rock god who can turn his grit on and off, and Earl Elkins Jr. (the bearded gent) has a high tenor that is laser sharp and capable of piercing the stratosphere. And J. None has a voice like melting butter, and so much soul in his voice. Both he and Eli have runs for days, and even Geoff has been known to throw down some elaborate ones. Which is amazing to hear in his lower vocal register. So yeah, you're in for a very fun ride. And that's all without mentioning that they do all of their own arranging and video work (including setting up the lighting, editing the video, and occasionally working cameras), as they are 100% independent. VoicePlay are by far the most impressive group I know.
Formed in Orlando, they are one of the big 3 acapella groups , with Home Free and Pentatonix. Geoff or Layne Stein(beatboxer) do the arrangements on most songs. The bald tenor is Eli Jacobsen. Earl Elkin Jr, the guy with the beard) is no longer with the group. J. None left to join the Navy, but occasionally guests when on leave. Ceasar De La Rosa has joined since this, and the 5th spot has been a guest singer. Geoff's wife, Kathy is the production manager. Check out their covers of We Don't Talk About Bruno from Disney's Encanto, Aerosmith's Dream On, and for Halloween, This Is Halloween.
Everyone has their own favorite flavor of VP I think you might enjoy "The Wicked Medley". For more goofy theatrical performances " Drunken Sailor" or "Your a Mean One Mr Grinch", for heartbreaking, "Heart of Life", "I Can't Make You Love Me", hopeful "The Bones" ,"I Will Survive". There is about 12 years worth of content on their channel, I dare you to find a bad one...and what everyone else said 😇
I've seen this one about a million times and it never gets old. Has to be my favorite VoicePlay video, as well as my favorite video for displaying Geoff's range. He absolutely kills it here. If you haven't seen Geoff's "Monster Mash" video, it's also a must-see. It's also very theatrical, and fits perfectly with the Halloween season!
You're so much fun to watch! VoicePlay is my favorite group and i can't wait to see more of them on your channel. Geoff is their bass and he has his own solo channel too so i hope you get to react to his stuff. He is truly amazing!
Love this. Nightmare Before Christmas has always been a favorite movie of mine. Especially this time of year (halloween is my favorite holiday). Danny Elfman wrote this as well as many songs for Tim Burton movies. LOVE YOUR EXCITEMENT!!! Check out Jacks Lament. You won't be disappointed. Love the new hair color. Have a great day JVB.
Geoff doesn't often sing the lead, but he took it again for this year's Hellfire, just dropped. Couldn't be a more different feel - a MUCH more threatening villain - and absolutely spectacular. Also listen to their cover of Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King. Released last October, it isn't classed as halloween, but in my mind should be. An insane performance vocally and theatrically.
@@CarlD70 It's wonderful, no question. But of course he sings lead, and all of the parts too, on his own channel. And while I found it absolutely charming, for me it wasn't particularly spooky. Everyone is different.
This was my first VoicePlay song back in 2019, but it was discovering Geoff's "Misty Mountains Cold" that made me go back to VoicePlay, plow through their entire discography, and become such a massive fan. I think I have 5 different Spotify playlists just for them, haha! By the way, that jacket was dazzling! Love it!
Go to absolutely any song on Voiceplay's list and you will definitely love it. Don't forget to check out Geoff Castellucci's solo channel too. He uses instruments there, so not strictly a cappella, but oh so worth it.
You chose the most "cartoonish" song as your introduction to Voiceplay... But they are incredibly versatile, and cover pretty much all genres. 🙂 I'd suggest their "Vikings" pair of videos... "My mother told me", followed (a couple years later) by "Valhalla calling". You'll have theatrical, incredible voice performance, production, whatever. But I'd also suggest more things that will blow your mind. Here's a brief list: - their "Post-apocalyptic trilogy", made of, in chronological order, "Warriors" (Imagine Dragons), "Dream on" (Aerosmith) and "7 Nation Army" (The White Stripes). - Their videogame soundtrack series... "Halo Theme" (with a long spoken outro by the guest artist and founding member of Voiceplay, a touching explanations about the video and the reasons behind it that's well worth listening) and "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim" above all - their Halloween stuff (they OWN Halloween!), like all the others from Nightmare before Christmas, or "Ding dong - Hide and seek", or "In the hall of the Mountain King", classical instrumental piece from Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt" that they turned into an incredible, hilarious, creative performance with no words and a whole lot of story-telling - more "pop" songs like "Can't help falling in love", "True colors", "I can't make you love me" (prepare a whole box of Kleenex for this one), and more - this version of Metallica's "Nothing else matters".. A true masterpiece - whatever else 😅 See you next time!
If you love theatrics you'll have so much fun with VoicePlay. Many of their videos are very theatrical. A few suggestions: This is Halloween, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Hoist The Colours, The Dragonborn Comes (skyrim(), and Valhalla Calling. Geoff has now released Jack;s Lament. He's also done The Headless Horseman and The Monster Mash. Defintiely worth checking out
This was the first Voiceplay cover I heard when introduced to them and when Geoff hit that E1 at the end I bruised my jaw when it hit the desk. But wait! There's more! He has hit a B0 in a couple of covers and touched on an A0 in a slide down in Voiceplay's cover of Imagine Dragon's _Enemy_ . Someone in the comments mentioned their newest release of Hellfire from _Hunchback of Notre Dame_ and Geoff just released a solo cover of Jack's Lament from _Nightmare Before Christmas_ . Welcome to the Rabbit Hole!! :)
Geoff just released a new Halloween video. JACKS LAMENT for The Nightmare Before Christmas. #TheatreKidsOfACapella. VoicePlay has released a new video also. HELLFIRE from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Geoff just did another from the Nightmare Before Christmas; Jack's Lament. It is a solo and gorgeous, he also has 3 other Halloween videos - The Monster Mash, The Headless Horseman and Ghostriders in the Sky. VoicePlay videos you really should see for the Halloween season - In the Hall of the Mountain King, the newest one is Hellfire IWOW), Friends on the Other Side, Queen in 5 minutes, This is Halloween, Superstition, Phantom of the Opera, Hoist the Colours.
Trick or Treat my freaky darling, yes it's that time of year again. I put on all my freaky spooky music and these are guys are my top 5! If you feel up to it check out another spooky band called "The Broken Peach" with there renditions of different spooky/metal song's! 🎼🤘🎃💋🌹
Well you found the right group if you like theatrics! Most of them have been performers at Disney or Universal Studios, so it comes pretty easily to them and they excel at it. They don’t always do the whole dress up thing, but it’s not uncommon. Some of the more theatrical pieces where they dressed up were Hoist the Colours, Dragonborn/Skyrim, Valhalla calling, and definitely In the Hall of the Mountain King! Halloween is the favorite holiday of both VoicePlay and Geoff. Each year VoicePlay has put out in a spooky season release. They aren’t all specifically Halloween but they all have something sort of spooky about them. They previously covered four songs from Nightmare before Christmas; What’s This, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, This is Halloween and, of course, the famous Oogie Boogie song. This years Jack’s Lament by Geoff is my favorite, and it has stiff competition. Last year they did DingDong/Hide and Seek with Lauren Paley who made this song viral by singing it in her stairwell to scare her neighbors. They have also done Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, and I’ve Got Friends on the Other Side from Disney’s Princess and the Frog. They also have two versions of Grim Grinning Ghosts from Disney’s haunted mansion. One while they were backstage between sets which is performed live. In the other they are the singing busts from the mansion. There is also a very old cover of Once Upon a Dream, I think done about the time the second Maleficent movie was released, that is haunting. Although not specifically Halloween last year they also did in the Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt suite. It’s a classical orchestral piece with no words. But they told a story anyway of a group of trolls surrounding a cauldron adding a new ingredient each time they wanted their voices to change. It’s pretty amazing. VoicePlay just released their 2023 cover. The song is dramatic and haunting and creepy and beautiful. Geoff once again is playing a dual personality. The song is powerful and disturbing at the same time and the cover is brilliant. Geoff has done three before starting when he launched his solo channel. The first year he did Headless Horseman which was featured in a 1958 animated short by Disney. That was followed by Monster Nash, and last year he did Ghost Riders in the Sky.
Awesome reaction They did 3 other Nightmare Before Christmas videos..... This Is Halloween, What's This and Kidnap The Sandy Claws. Along with a bunch of other Halloween videos. He has, on video at one point or another, hit every note from B0 at the very bottom of the piano, all the way up to A5, in the tenor range. This song and Hellfire, their most recent release, are the two best showing how massive his range is.
you should try their cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno, or perhaps a medley The LIttle Mermaid or Moana ... just a couple that pop into my head which give a wide range of what they do.
Welp uve heard Voiceplay now u gotta hear Homefree. They were both on the singoff the same year back in 2013 I think it was. Homefree is another awesome vocal group you have to check them out. I love them both but Homefree edges them out for me prolly only cause I found them first and been listening to them longer, and Ive seen them live 3 times lol.

Oh, you definitely found the right group!! They have amazing voices and they PERFORM their covers! You will love them! Please dive into more!

Voice play is the kings and they love the spooky season and Geoff castelluchi the bass does solo work to I rec starting with headless horseman awsome
Okay, it's official! The "too much fun" alarm sounded 10 seconds in! You had SUCH a good time that I was grinning ear-to-ear!!

Indeed, never has a single word sent shivers down my spine, but when Geoff goes "WHAT?"... ... ... shivers!
They are definitely the most theatrical of the acapella groups. Whether covering Disney or Queen, they always bring their A game.

Saw VP and had to subscribe. I love watching new people fall into their rabbit hole.

Plus two Haunted Mansion themed songs!

Subscribed for more Voiceplay! Great reaction.

Awesome reaction
They did 3 other Nightmare Before Christmas videos..... This Is Halloween, What's This and Kidnap The Sandy Claws.
Along with a bunch of other Halloween videos.
Their new Halloween video was released on Friday..... Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Geoff Castellucci released his new Halloween video..... Jack's Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas.
He has several other Halloween videos on his channel..... Monster Mash, Headless Horseman and Ghost Riders In The Sky.
if you liked them, try their newest video, "hellfire" the song of frollo, from the disney movie "hunchback of notre dame" that really shows the range of all of them...
but overall, you can never go wrong with a voiceplay video....
Geoff our Bassy Spooky Daddy
Geoff hits an E1 in this vid, and in several others. occasionally, he goes lower, even down to B0.
Geoff says he has a 4 octave voice that touches into 5
He has, on video at one point or another, hit every note from B0 at the very bottom of the piano, all the way up to A5, in the tenor range. This song and Hellfire, their most recent release, are the two best showing how massive his range is.
I see fire geoff castellucci ❤
Do Geoff’s latest for Halloween, Jack’s Lament!
you should try their cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno, or perhaps a medley The LIttle Mermaid or Moana ... just a couple that pop into my head which give a wide range of what they do.
