Tim displayed his ignorance about PC gaming when he attempted to create a walled garden in an open field. PC gamers do NOT like exclusivity of any kind, it goes against the nature of our chosen platform. If you want to make your own game exclusive then we generally don't care about that, but if you start buying exclusivity then we're going to tell you to fuck off. PC gaming is NOT console gaming, we have zero interest in that stupidity.

I refuse to support EGS for their scummy behaviour. How they rather spend money on exclusives then using that money in developing the storefront into a proper competitor to Steam and no free games is going to make me use it, I'm not opposed to alternative store fronts and I do use other stores and in same cases I prefer them like with gog when it comes to playing older games

It's baffling, how some people will dick ride for, quite literally the worst option on the market(Though I'd argue Rockstar's launcher is up there too). Competition in itself is a good thing. EGS just isn't in the race; they bowed out of that a long time of go. They're just a joke, and most definitely deserve to be shat on. It's honestly insane that one of the best pro-EGS arguments is piracy on the consumer end.
What, did you think I wouldn't notice? Sweeney Tim is using that to try to lure people in, yet it's working about as well as anyone with a lick of sense would expect. The only reason why devs/publishers aren't more up in arms about this is because Epic still has to foot the bill. I'm not trying to claim to be an economist or a dev, either. It really only requires a bit of thought.
More generally, the fact that it's still not profitable _even after something caused a lot of people to suddenly have more free time, even for a relatively brief period_ is more than enough to tell me that it's just bad.

Personally I do think that the Epic Games Store *could* be a viable competitor to Steam if Epic would actually put the time and money into it. They are far bigger than Valve and have the backing of companies like Tencent and Sony, so they definitely have the resources to build a client that can compete with Steam.
But no. Instead of building a client/store that would provide healthy competition, Tim Sweeney would rather waste his company's resources to fight other companies like Apple and Google over what he perceives as injustices. Or at least that's how he spins it. But he hates the thought of revenue splits.
The success of Fortnite and all the money it brought in made Tim Sweeney cocky and arrogant, making him think that he can take on the world. It's why Epic launched this halfassed client. It's why they'd throw hundreds of millions of dollars at exclusives to undermine Steam. It's why Epic is suing tech giants like Apple and Google. And now hundreds of people had to lose their jobs because of Tim Sweeney's misguided "moral crusades." And Epic is losing money still.
And their strategy or rather "tunnel vision" of paid exclusives to try and brute force people into their ecosystem. Yeah how did that work out in the end? I think Tim Sweeney even said once that it's not the consumer who will decide who wins the store war, but rather the developers. But the problem with that mindset is that it's the consumer who's buying the product. And if they aren't buying from your store then the developers will eventually go to where the customers are.

Rockstar just wanted you guys to buy shark cards and be the best little pay pigs you are.
EGS isn't a terrible "premise", but there's nothing making me use it. It was only recently that one of my closest friends convinced me to play Fortnite with him, and since I enjoy Battle Royals every now and then, I just enjoyed the fun of the game. That's my only reason to use EGS. I have way too many games to play on Steam to care about the free ones given by EGS. They're mostly random games I have 0 interest in, or games I already own.

      Steam is a better service.
Steam has amazing game sales, steam lets you refund games pretty easily, steam has a market place ( I bought a couple of AAA games just by buying cheap indies and selling cards from them), steam has actual reviews, steam banned nft games and much more

If free games is all I cared about, then EGS still loses since piracy exists and manages to provide a better experience than EGS. I don't see the need to wait for a handout. I've been a PC gamer since 2012 and many were PC gamers even longer than I have been. In that time, I've built up a large library of games I haven't finished due to sales happening so frequently and with them being so deep. So I don't care if a game got released on EGS for free, as I either already had that game that I got on sale for like 10 dollars or less 2 or more years prior, or it was a game I was not interested in. Hell, after a while, I started getting duplicate keys for things I already owned (for instance, getting a game in a monthly bundle that I had on steam).
And I'm not even rich. I get why the free handouts would be appealing to kids, but I can't imagine somebody with any sort of income getting excited about EGS free handouts. Especially if that person pumped quite a bit of money into the hardware itself.

Despie Steam being the superior platform, I don't get the hate against EGS. I'm happy EGS exists and prevents a Valve monopoly, take their free games and don't care much about the store wars. The only reason why store wars aren't equally stupid to console wars is that consumers don't have to buy the stores for 500 bucks. Otherwise it's only another stupid fanboy war.
Worse than EGS fanboys for me as a consumer are the Ngreedia drones, what are 2/3 of PC gamers who live in a constant state of Stockholm Syndrome and praise misleading proprietary software solutions. Ngreedia on the hardware side is responsible for the worsening of PC ports and making uoposcaling mandatory in new games. And they sh*t into the faces of their customers on a regular basis by abandon even last-gen cards by excluding them from these proprietary solutions. AMD and even Intel treat owners of last-gen and older cards better than Ngredia itself does by delivering their open standards even to older Ngreedia cards.

in no way EGS prevented a "Valve monopoly" cause first: Valve never had a monopoly and Second: even if Valve had a monopoly Epic didnt took good choices into stopping said monopoly

Bro really called the steam review system mid 💀
Usually when games get "review bombed" They deserve it.

@erieriderschillingcorner1595 and plus, steam has an all time review and recent reviews so you can easily tell if a game is being review bombed

I've been waiting for the EGS to do one of two things. Either shut down completely or do an entire overhaul of the entire app. It offers little value as is and just tries to bait you into the platform via free games occasionally and exclusives. Not much competition for Steam there.
