I laughed for 5 minutes after I watched it. To this day I still use the "madam how do you do" line when checking in with the wife. Haven't seen it in over 40 years. Thanks for the post.
It's so nice to see so many people have the same memory and experience with this little commercial. I remember this from when I was a little kid also, and when I was a little older and used to call home to check in with my Mum, I always used to say when she picked up the phone, "Madam howw doo you dooo?"! 💜😃🛀
this is gonna sound odd but im only 27 yet there is something comforting and nostalgic about these old commercials.... Its so weird how the heck would one feel nostalgic about a time when they didn't even exist?? lol
Yeah, I get it. I'm 34, but my family has always watched really old TV and movies. Andy Griffith, I Love Lucy, The Odd Couple, John Wayne, that sort of thing. I find the old stuff comforting because my parents grew up with it and loved it, and in turn I grew up with it and love it. It's good, wholesome entertainment.
I'm a connosisseur of bubble baths and Mr. Bubble remains my all-time favorite. Gets you clean, smells divine, and bubbles that last and last and last.
i am also 54, and this commercial was one of my favorites! i used mr. bubble a lot when i was a kid, largely because i thought this was such a great commercial. (and i hate most commercials.)
We bought lots of this because the commercial is so fantastic! Modern day commercials are so confusing you have to see several times to figure out what they're selling.
Yeah that's because they aren't worried so much about advertising the products as they are making some kind of social statement. I miss when commercials were catchy and made you want o buy a product.
I mentioned this commercial in the comments with the group Calvin and Hobbes Ride Again on Facebook. It was a favorite when I saw it in the 60s. Grandma is so cute. And he really is a "little scamp." I still chuckle when I see it.
Popped into my head the other day and just started chuckling. I KNEW it word-for-word before clicking on it. As a kid, I found it so funny that I learned to do it "in voice" to amuse my friends. The ONLY thing I "phased on" was the black-and-white cartoon commercial thingy!!! Didn't have a color TV in the house until MANY years later, so no harm, no foul!
Everyone is talking about childhood experiences and I'm just here bc my grandma showed me this and I liked and and wanted to see it again like 3 years later. I'm 14 lol.
Yes, John Hubley (who also created the "Marky Maypo" ads in the mid-'50s) animated this one. He also helped created "Mr. Magoo" for UPA- which explains why "Grandma" is also nearsighted as well....I believe GeGe Pearson is Granny's voice...
This was a favorite ad in my preteen years.I had several boxes of Mr Bubble brought home for me until I was in the 3rd grade.I outgrew bubble baths by then.
"Madam...How do you do?" stated in a grave, pseudo-British voice was comedy for a generation following this inspired commercial. Almost as good: Frantic grandma at the phone telling...anybody, "There's a man in the bathtub!"
This was THE BEST commercial ever! My husband didn’t remember it, but found it on You Tube for me! I laughed so hard I aspirated my coffee! Who wrote this and voiced it?? It’s so precious even today. If I wasn’t almost 70, I’d buy a box and give it a whirl again. However, I’m too afraid I’ll slip out of the tub and break a hip!!! Omg. Thank you for still making this available. I’m out of breath from laughing and so grateful for that laugh and this great memory.
For me, how he says the line "It's a horse" cracks me up. Also... The water is still on and running with Hubert still in the tub. Interesting little detail.
Thinking about that commercial makes me laugh; The funny part is when Hubert while wearing the hat in the bathtub says, "Madam, how do you do?" and that cracked me up when she says "AH! A MAN!" 😂😂😂
We used Mr. Bubble later on when it was made with a gentler formula, but at the time this was on we used Soaky for bubble bath. We also used Crazy Foam way back then. Looked like shaving cream but with a kid friendly smell, plus the cap was a character that could be turned into a hand puppet when the can was empty.
When I was seven or eight, my mom rushed me to the doctor when I developed an all-over rash. The first thing he asked; "Did you use Mr. Bubble?". (It had just come on the market.) He said it was like washing you kids in Tide. Still remember the commercial, though.
That bubble bath was so harsh that it made me absolutely miserable to the point of crying when I tried it. I was screaming and felt like my skin was trying to eat itself
Basically riffing on Mr. Magoo there. Somehow took me half a century to figure that out. I don't think we ever actually used Mr. Bubble, though. Other bubble bath formulas, but not very often.
Lol !! Yeah my grandmother always said that too- but it was after I took my bath - had to go to the kitchen sink and get shampooed by my grandma.. she would use her old lady shampoo on me.. I hated the smell .. too girly for a boy .. then after she dried my hair-surprise was usually something she baked . Cookies or cake ..
I laughed for 5 minutes after I watched it. To this day I still use the "madam how do you do" line when checking in with the wife. Haven't seen it in over 40 years. Thanks for the post.
L

It’s my all time favorite! 😂
I still say, “it’s a man!”

"There's a MAN in the BATHTUB!" I remember this from when I was a kid.
I was watching this and reciting the whole dialogue along with the commercial, and I haven't seen it since the 60s! It must have been on a LOT!!
YES! 😅🤣😂💯💯
this is gonna sound odd but im only 27 yet there is something comforting and nostalgic about these old commercials.... Its so weird how the heck would one feel nostalgic about a time when they didn't even exist?? lol
Same I feel the same way
Maybe because you're remembering a time when life was simpler and kinder? 🤗
im the same way with big band era music from the 30s and 40s . artie shaw , benny goodman , tommy dorsey . could listen to them forever

Best Commercial ever. Used to howl everytime it was on. Still quote it!
I love this commercial. I remember it when it originally aired back in the 60's, when I was a kid, and it still cracks me up! Thanks for posting it!
Me to. Loved it
I feel so young
That commercial should have won an award. It was so funny!
If you were born in the 60s what age are you now?
My god it’s a boomer get together
The classic Mr. Bubble ad with Hubert and his poor old nearsighted Grandma. Everybody say it with me now: "Madam, howww do you do?" "(gasp) A MAN!!"
Still drive my wife nuts, with reciting this commercial. Thanks
I AM 63 AND LOVED THIS COMMERCIAL, SO GLAD TO HAVE IT BACK
I'm a connosisseur of bubble baths and Mr. Bubble remains my all-time favorite. Gets you clean, smells divine, and bubbles that last and last and last.

I really & truly love that TV commercial!!!
I'm 63 and said "Hello madam, how do you do?" when I called my sister today. She then found and sent me the commercial. t's been so long! 😁
I mentioned this commercial in the comments with the group Calvin and Hobbes Ride Again on Facebook. It was a favorite when I saw it in the 60s. Grandma is so cute. And he really is a "little scamp." I still chuckle when I see it.
I thought it was just me! I love this commercial. I'm almost 50 and I say that sometimes when I meet someone!. Classic!
The original cartoon was in color. But this print is black-and-white.
So glad to find this -- I say these words to my 3 year old grand daughter and she just giggles!
Everyone is talking about childhood experiences and I'm just here bc my grandma showed me this and I liked and and wanted to see it again like 3 years later. I'm 14 lol.

It’s a fabulous commercial. Thanks for your background on it!!
You're VERY welcome! :)
John Hubley also co-produced Moonbird, 1956
This was a favorite ad in my preteen years.I had several boxes of Mr Bubble brought home for me until I was in the 3rd grade.I outgrew bubble baths by then.
Omg! Blast from the past! I remember this! Madame how do you do? 🤣
i use to love that commercial as a kid. "madam how do you do", use to kill me...
It was jammed into your brain every Saturday morning from 700 am to noon. Gramma, it's (NOT) only me.
"Madam...How do you do?" stated in a grave, pseudo-British voice was comedy for a generation following this inspired commercial. Almost as good: Frantic grandma at the phone telling...anybody, "There's a man in the bathtub!"
I cant get enough of this.
Love it. One of my favorites of all time.

I always remember this commercial from my childhood. So funny! They definitely made me want Mr. Bubble when I was a kid.
This was THE BEST commercial ever! My husband didn’t remember it, but found it on You Tube for me! I laughed so hard I aspirated my coffee! Who wrote this and voiced it?? It’s so precious even today. Wow! I can't remember the last time I saw this commercial. I was just a kid, too!
My dad and I always quote this commercial. He grew up with it and I always tell him “It’s Mr. Bubble, he’ll get you so clean Grandma won’t know you”
I loved this commercial
As a child, i always laughed when this 1 came on. 😂
i miss my grandma
For me, how he says the line "It's a horse" cracks me up. Also... The water is still on and running with Hubert still in the tub. Interesting little detail.
Wow. I didn't even know Mr. Bubble was this old!
I wonder if that little kid on the front of the box is still with us today.
Thinking about that commercial makes me laugh; The funny part is when Hubert while wearing the hat in the bathtub says, "Madam, how do you do?" and that cracked me up when she says "AH! A MAN!" 😂😂😂
"Madam How Do You Do" That part cracks me up. 😅
I remember this! Seems so WEIRD now, despite my own nostalgia
We used Mr. Bubble later on when it was made with a gentler formula, but at the time this was on we used Soaky for bubble bath. We also used Crazy Foam way back then. Looked like shaving cream but with a kid friendly smell, plus the cap was a character that could be turned into a hand puppet when the can was empty.
(This is Tom, not Sandra.)
One of my favorite 1960's commercials, ever!!!!
"Now Hubert, I expect to find you in that tub with Mr. Bubble!"
Gilbert: It's a horse
Grandma: It is not, it's Mister Bubble!
Man I think I was 5 when this one came out
When I was seven or eight, my mom rushed me to the doctor when I developed an all-over rash. The first thing he asked; "Did you use Mr. Bubble?". (It had just come on the market.) He said it was like washing you kids in Tide. Still remember the commercial, though.
Yeah it was super harsh!
It’s making me realize my memory is insanely amazing.
I used to adore this commercial when I was young. It was so funny and cute to me.😆😆😆😆❤❤❤ 1:05
MR BUBBLE CAUSED (NUT RASH)! I'M A SURVIVOR! LOL
That's what you get for being the man in the bathtub! :-)
Childhood fun memories of getting a mr. Bubble bath
I remember seeing this commercial !
done that, and it really does not leave a bathtub ring !!!
Madam how do you do , oh, the little camp was that him, grandmother it's me.
This is fucking adorable.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂i still love mr.bubble
"Madame HOW do you dooo????"
that was funny that he was a puppy dog into a man with bubbles.
She's basically Mister Magoo, but old lady version.
Grandma looks like a Mrs. Magoo.
Tell her it leaves no bathtub ring. She'll like that.
I work my way into all their cracks and crevices yes Robot Chicken sent me
Classic!
anatomically correct Hubert would have been a bit much back then I guess.
I do remember this...😅
Here becuz of Robot Chicken, hahaha
Bet anyone named Hubert did not like Mr. Bubble.
Rhe scent of mr.bubble i remember from childhood bubblegum scent
"Definitive charge of bathing with thousands of naked children since 1961, how do you plead, mr Bubble?"
Oh the little scamp was that him.
Ha ha. There's a man in the bathtub.
There’s a man in my bathtub lol
It was always fun to make fun of blind elders. (Mr. Magoo)
The man who has plenty of peanuts
looks the same animation as Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol
it does! you're right ;-)
popbottle thats because it was animated by the same studio, UPA.
so either i'm smart for guessing or dumb for not looking it up
;)
You're smart for guessing, This commercial is one of the lesser-known UPA animations
i have Mr. Maggoo's Christmas Carol tattooed on my heart.
Grandma could be Belle, grown old
The announcer who comes in at the end...any idea who it is? He sounds like a t.v character from that time but I just can't place him.
Box Nd bottle mr. Bubble classi❤cs
That bubble bath was so harsh that it made me absolutely miserable to the point of crying when I tried it. I was screaming and felt like my skin was trying to eat itself
Madam how do you doooo.....
Did Art Babbitt animate Mr Bubbles also...? he did animate Mr Magoo...
Basically riffing on Mr. Magoo there. Somehow took me half a century to figure that out.
I don't think we ever actually used Mr. Bubble, though. Other bubble bath formulas, but not very often.
A man.. theres a man
"It's a hoooorrrssse!"
TELL her to get some damn new glasses. 🤓🤓🤓🤓
MR. BUBBLE'S 🟣
HUBERT BATH TIME GRANDMAS GOT A SUPRISE FOR YOU
Cookies or cake ..
i was hoping for something from bioshock or something..
Sounds like a man as "Granny"..whose company did these..any c redits for company/cast? Haven't seen this in 50 years myself.
Left no bathtub ring...and irritated sensitive skin!
