When watering the plant they poured water over the crown of the plant, which can easily cause rot and kill it. It also recommends spraying without mentioning the risk of rot. Orchid leaves should never have water on them due to the risk of rot. The only time it's necessary to spray water is if it has air roots, but the leaves should remain dry. It might be humid and get rained on in a rainforest, but the water also evaporates quickly enough as to not rot the plant. It also said to cut the spike all the way back once it's lost all of its blooms. As long as the spike is green you should not trim it as it still contains vital nutrients that can be reabsorbed and can still grow a secondary spike out of one of the lower nodes. There's no way to know which one will spike if you cut it back first. And it said to trim dried roots without specifying what that means. Unless roots are black/brown and mushy you should not cut them, and even then be very careful not to cut any healthy portions of the roots. And never apply cinnamon to roots as it will burn them! Watch MissOrchid Girl on You Tube. She did a phal beginners guide series about 2 years ago. The cinnamon solution is just plant cinnamon spice from the store that you rub on the cut part of leaves not on cut roots ( per MissOrchidGirl) .
I didn't do number five properly, I didn't know about trimming off the poorly and dead roots and I never heard of a cinnamon solution to sprinkle them with. I changed the pots in September and the orchids has started to bud (most joyous sight for me as I didn't have a clue what to do after rescuing them from the neighbours who moved away and left them in their porch!). But getting back to me not doing number 5 fully, should I re-pot them properly after flowering, or leave them for two years?

Dead roots can cause rotting in the roots, and also decay in the potting medium which usually raises the media acid levels. It's not essential as such, no one is running around the world trimming dead wild orchid roots, it's pretty much just a housekeeping thing, you have it out of the pot may as well do all maintenance while there to improve the plants health.
the best way to know when to water a phaleanopsis orchid is to look at its roots in a transparent pot. If theyre still green, no need to water it. once they start getting a sort of silvery color, its time to water them. Once a week is a good general rule of thumb but often it might be too much or too little depending on many aspects such as temperature, humidity, substrate, season etc. For me for example, once a week is way too little and I live in regular central european conditions.
Me too 😔 my orchids are like twoo and three years old they are so beautiful very healthy but noooo flowers ...lets be patient on day they will give us flowers haha
Orchids are heavy feeders, they need a weekly food regimen, & a once a month fertilizer regimen. I feed mine water soluble food every Monday, water normally for the rest of the week. On the first of every month, they all soak for 20-30 minutes in a fertilizer bath. This will give them the nutrients to grow flower spikes, & blooms! 😊 if a bloom branch dies off, (turns brown & dries up) feel free to cut it off. This doesn’t hurt the plant. All orchids have a bloom cycle also. Mine bloom in the fall/winter, I’ve never had any of my plants bloom in Spring/Summer. I hope this is helpful....happy growing!
I was told that the sellers do something to ensure tat they do not flower again - otherwise we wd not keep buying new ones every year. Does anyone know what they do to the plant that wd cause this. ?
You do run the risk of damaging your orchid if the ice cube is in contact with the leaves or roots. They are tropical plants and should be watered with lukewarm or room teperature water.
I'm sorry but I bought an orchid 14 months ago and it's been in bloom for 11 months? I haven't taken any special steps is this normal? I rarely see it dropping flowers
Cinnamon is meant for pest infestations where you have to cut a certain part of heal a part of the leaf. Putting cinnamon on roots is the worse you can do. What you should do when get new orchids is water the roots and leaves with low level of hydrogen peroxide.
I have never seen orchids grow in soil surface before I move to USA. They only grow in the tree and many kind of plant that has flowers like to grow on the tree.
The orchids which I bought last year in blue and pink colour got change into white. Can someone kindly explain what when wrong or is it normal to change colour?
This is a late reply to your question but just in case you never got an answer…the stores get them during certain times of the year, Easter or whatnot and they come blue/pink because they have been dyed with coloring. With each new bloom the true color of the orchid flower will appear, white.
Spraying is not good, you don't want water in the crown. If you want to increase humidity, place it on pebbles with water. Also, if you want to avoid roots turning brown, use filtered water that has less mineral deposits in it. NOT water softened with salt. My roots were turning brown and I found out it was because my tap water is very hard. Do NOT use ice cubes, they are sensitive to cold and temperature changes. Not a lot of ice in the tropics lol

Watch MissOrchid Girl on You Tube. She did a phal beginners guide series about 2 years ago. The cinnamon solution is just plant cinnamon spice from the store that you rub on the cut part of leaves not on cut roots ( per MissOrchidGirl) .
I use over the counter herb cinnamon from the grocery store on my leaves when I cut them.
incorrect to mist on the flowers, only mist on the leave and air roots.
Could you place phalaenopis orchids next to south window just not directly in front of it?
But how do you make your orchids bloom again !! Please tell me me ❤
Beautiful
We want you speak about how we take care in winter? There is no sun all time

Thanks for good tips.
Thank u so mach 💛🇦🇪
I didn't do number five properly, I didn't know about trimming off the poorly and dead roots and I never heard of a cinnamon solution to sprinkle them with. I changed the pots in September and the orchids has started to bud (most joyous sight for me as I didn't have a clue what to do after rescuing them from the neighbours who moved away and left them in their porch!).
But getting back to me not doing number 5 fully, should I re-pot them properly after flowering, or leave them for two years?
Subscribe to MissOrchidGirl on You Tube .she started a series for Phal orchid beginners about 2 years ago. I have been watching her series since I inherited 6 Phal orchids from my dearly departed mother in law.
East window gets morning sun direct ray.
West window can be v harsh....sh.
North window would be best. The least sunray, especially in the winter.
I don’t understand exactly where to trim the stems…please help.
they are so beautiful we can not get this kind of orchid here we have different kinds orchid only...i want that but....
I love Orchids, Beautiful video, thanks for sharing!
the best way to know when to water a phaleanopsis orchid is to look at its roots in a transparent pot.
The branch with the blooms dyed. Will another one grow? I have been waiting forever and nothing!
Me too 😔 my orchids are like twoo and three years old they are so beautiful very healthy but noooo flowers ...lets be patient on day they will give us flowers haha
And i think is not good idea to cut the branch
Everyone says not to water with ice cubes. I have always done that and had great success
I think it's okay just don't put the ice cube on the root because by the time the water has gotten to the root it isn't that cold.
What is the cinnamon solution?
Cinnamon is meant for pest infestations where you have to cut a certain part of heal a part of the leaf. Putting cinnamon on roots is the worse you can do. What you should do when get new orchids is water the roots and leaves with low level of hydrogen peroxide.
I have never seen orchids grow in soil surface before I move to USA. They only grow in the tree and many kind of plant that has flowers like to grow on the tree.
Hi you, thank for video 🇻🇳🇻🇳
Thanhk you
I strongly suggest not following this advice. Find an actual orchid channel.
Terrible sound too
Wish I’d read the comments before I cut, think I just ruined my orchids.
This advice is the same as actual orchid channels...it's all very good advice, actually.
Probably because their stealing proper orchid chanells content
@@checkplease7735 Proper orchid Channels would not make the suggestions in this video.
@@lisar313 thank you for your informative reply👍
Thanks
Thank you so much for your advices, my orchid doesn't want to bloom, I'll try your methods
nonono dont folow this method! most orchid bloom all year! i recomend channel "miss orchid girl" almost every information abaut orchid care there
3 ice cubes a week and a south facing window... Game changer!
Reverse Osmosis
Hi there, thank you for sharing your video information, very interesting. May I ask what's the medium you use? Thank you, God bless you 🙏💕

Where is the plant in the photo?
What cinnamon solution?
i recently got an orchid & i been freakin out, cuz the flowers wilted... i guess maybe it aint sucha bad thing tho, huh... my MAIN priority, as far as "plants" go, is my pumkin patch.. 🎃 cuz "Tom" is lookin kinda ruff/thin. (🍅) . . . mostly i just record the squirrels tho... & i'll occasionally record the process of all the construction going on next door. if any1 would like to see a house being built, (basement & all) starting with the plowing of the previous house, u know where to find me. or just pop in & meet the gang. the Squirrely Brigade is always here to share a smile. 👌😄👍

How to regrow new roots in phalaelenopsis orchid which have no roots?
Look for "how to regrow roots" , which Brad explains quite simply. He has a great idea how to regrow roots. I am in the process and already see roots. Quite thrilled that it worked.🥳👍🇨🇭
Wao very nice
So what's the cinnamon solution? You kind of left ud just hanging here.
Did you get permission to use the video clips from those other channels?
Many thanks ❤❤❤🙇♀️🙇♀️
I want keiki.
Oncidium types are better for begginers, in my opinion.
and they flower profusely non stop all year round in tropical climates
A friend of mine gave me an orchid 1 week ago, and i put it on the vase with water.. is that ok?
What about orchids in water system? Thank you
Mona Azar I have about 80 orchids in a very large terrarium. They all receive 20 seconds of watering every 3 hours plus a 4 minute soak every Wednesday morning. Fans are on 24/7 to circulate the air and humidity is always in 80-95% range.
I think orchids (flowering or not) will make any space look better. They don't flower 365 days a year ya know.
Cinnamon solution 🤔 can you tell me how I make and use the cinnamon solution? Thanks 🙏🏼
@Virgen Weed I think it's just cinimon.
@Virgen Weed rude.
Mine face south, no choice. Not direct sun.
Love this..
If u do not cut the stem it will become new plant in 2 to 3 years
How to make the cinnamon solution for the cut dried roots?
Do not put cinnamon on the roots! I listened to this video with my first orchid and the cinnamon killed my orchid bc it dehydrated it severely! You only want to use cinnamon on the stem with a q-tip and only where there are places of rot. I have found that just putting rooting powder on the ends of my cut stems have worked best, but check out some other actual orchid channels before doing anything with cinnamon so you know where it can be placed.
This is so much bad information 😬
