I think the only reason they didn't add dismemberment was because of the revive mechanic. You can still kinda suspend your disbelief when you revive somebody who was just sniped, but it's totally destroyed when you stab a guy with a syringe and he regrows half his torso back.

Me when I kill a soldier with my bayonet; as I lunged my weapon he looked into my eyes, and I looked into his; we were about the same age, both too young to actually know what we were getting into. His sight was not of hate, but of fear, the same fear I had, but also of understanding and, in a way, relief... It was a kill or be killed situation and he knew that he just got the short end. As I stood there we looked at each other for about ten seconds, and I embraced him in his final moments. Who could tell that the person who fatally wounded you would be the only person to be there at the moment of your demise. He reached into his pocket and grasped in his bloodied hands a picture of a woman; maybe his mother, his wife, I couldn't tell. The picture was stained beyond recognition. He said to me "Sag ihr, es tut mir leid". I didn't knew german back then but the words stuck to me. The words went beyond the language barrier, and I knew what I had to do. Then when the actual action began you would exit your trench, either walking or running depending on the distance to the enemy trench until you are gunned down or reach the enemy trench with most of your mates dead or wounded. Repeat this for several hours and then you have something that represents the actual war, something like "beyond the wire" does a way better job at portraying the war.

I remember playing BF1. Literally the intro of the story (The one were you die multiple times and change soldier every time) showed me that war is not a game and, no matter how fun it is shooting people in videogames, it's something unacceptable in real life. BF2042 threw all of these grim ideologies and messages out of the window and paid no attention to them. Fix your game DICE, now that we have time! Edit: I have seen some comments here that say that I have only understood the violence of war through videogames, which I understand their concerns due to bad rephrasing on my part. I already knew about the horrors of violence (Believe me, my parents never missed an opportunity to teach me about it), but no game actually spread that message across. For example, CoD, a very popular FPS franchise, it's concept, when taken very simply, was just "Shoot the bad guys", or GTA, with the map being a sandbox in which you have the power to cause chaos. BF1 however, was more dramatic and in the story mode, they put more focus on why war is bad rather than filling it up with over the top scenes, basically the opposite of what DICE did with BF2042. This is all I have to say. I don't care what people will think of this additional edit, if they think I'm lying to hide myself from embarrassment or they acknowledge my mistake. Take it as you please.
battlefield 1's intro was really good. stuff like showing the soldier's name and lifetime was a pretty smart touch to help with the constantly pervasive theme of wwi being a decidedly not-fun time. it was kind of cheesy, but i still feel like it was super well-done and really captured a hostile atmosphere it's strange how they went from "war is hell" to "war is fun" so quickly
yep, I liked on BF1 also some historical stories and memories at the beginning of the round, which I did not know even, so it had even some educating point
Even in the dozen introduction narrations of battles in BF1, where you don't even know the language, the voice sticks in your mind and is very memorable and also the emotion is very clear. I was watching RED 2 recently and recognised the voice actor from BF1 who narrates all the Ottoman perspectives, that is how memorable the voices are in BF1.
One thing that 2042 did wrong was have special characters. The magic of previous games was that you were shown as just a soldier with a few voice lines. So, it was YOU. You were the soldier experiencing everything. Adding special characters takes the YOU out of the fight. Maybe I'm looking too deeply into it but it just detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
Nope. The immersion of being thrust into a war as an ordinary soldier was what sold it to people. 2042 IMO missed an opportunity to make you feel a part of a dystopian scenario where you were one of many people who signed up for the forces to help feed your family, or you were an ordinary person turned No-Pat soldier. That fits the lore. Having special characters treat the war like some fun TikTok video for clout is a bit of an insult.
Agree. I felt the true atmosphere and horror of war in BF1, but in 2042 it looks like you're playing Nerf with friends outside and imagining this war in your head
Bf1 probably shot people’s leg off for voice lines and bf2042 probably found some people in an alleyway behind Walmart that were high on drugs and then got them to do the voice lines
Battlefield: Paid actors, solid performance. Emotion and life, fear can be heard in the ton of the voice, especially with the voice cracks and genuine panic. Cringefield: That one game Battlefield fans don't talk about, unpaid actors getting issued two cent an hour. Emotionless robots who seem to think of war as a game of simple Tic Tac Toe.
Stark difference between BF1 and BF2042: Battlefield 1's soldiers are basically just normal people who had to enlist in a war they didn't want. Normal people like you and me.
@kc korea You are right. During the first years of the war, most of the troops sent to the battlefields were volunteer armies (i.e. British Expeditionary Force). However, during the mid-late stages of the war (approximately around 1916), conscription was active all around Europe.
@@Huziharamantics Early on in the war, there were a shit ton of teenage boys who lied about their age so they could enlist in the British Army as means to escape their miserable living conditions. @@knox7945 Exactly it was garbage in bf5. But I'll tell you what, in 10 years from now people will look back on this gamemode in bf1 in a very positive light and will want it back. In operations the heroic last stand of a point always felt like you had an impact on the outcome of a literal war and I know I'm not the only one who felt this. From the different language introductions to the explanation of historical battles, everything was done so well that it fully immersed you in the experience of being a foot soldier in a grand battle. Everybody played the objective, everybody helped in pushes, everybody tried their best to win one for the team atleast on the front lines it was like that
In battlefield 1 you could feel what the soldier is feeling from how well enacted their voice lines were, pre-battle speeches from German officers can be heard in verdun, French forces shouting “Ils ne passeront pas!” Ottoman soldiers bayonet charging the enemy with their iconic Turkish tongue, the British with their frumpy humor. The game has personality where each soldier has like a little lore behind him. Meanwhile in Battlefield 2042, “I aM nOT OvEr CoNFIdENT jUsT bEtTer ThAN EvEryoNE ElSe”
Crazy how a lot of these games manage to go backwards in every aspect. 🤦🏾♂️ like you would think at this point the amount of battlefields that came out, they would take all the good things from each one and things that everyone enjoyed and put it all in one with just better graphics etc.
BF1 was in no way the most realistic ww1 in terms of combat, but despite being just an Arcade like shooter, they still wanted to deliver historical accuracy, even going as far to get what the engines of the tanks and plane sounded, and the gun skins were even accurate, since in ww1 families would send Special decorated guns to their boys fighting on the front, and making sure the maps and their environment would be like in that era, truly one of the most immersive games dice made so far and haven't done since.
BF1 was just a beautifully made game in general, fantastic stories that pulled you into the game and payed respect to those who had to suffer through the horror of trench warfare

I feel BF 2042 dehumanizes war and it really creeps me out the approach EA took with the characters and the lack of self awareness they have. War is about fear, horror, anguish that first part in Battlefield 1 really captured that, being surrounded by the enemy and dying over and over again as different soldiers. It tries to show you firefights aren’t a ‘fun’ experience.
Really not just battlefield either but call of duty for instance. Not multiplayer per say, but the campaign. The first couple of CODs and the experience you had in the campaign was terrifying, showing some of the horrors of war but yet drew you back in with a great storyline and great characters. Vanguard does none of these, and simply just pushes the war aspect to the side in favor of the storyline. Almost normalizing the war happening.

What’s funny is that you could argue that 2042’s operators are in a more hellish environment than those in BF1, considering the whole world has been plunged into a Savage and brutal conflict fueled purely be the need for survival. So really we should be hearing a lot more harsh phrases and sentences.
But that would require creativity and passion in the game making process, and that's something that's just unacceptable in modern AAA gaming nowadays. Fabulous choice in profile picture, by the way.
I didn’t know that’s 2042’s story. In that case definitely. It’s irritating that developers so often rely on ‘lol so goofy’ for various things. Light hearted doesn’t always mean better, as Battlefield 1 clearly shows. Actual substance can make such a big difference
@@TheHulksMistress Exactly. I really hate this constant "im a bad bitch" personality from literally every current game coming out. I think Bf1 was the actual last game that had any interest in making anything close to a world war game, now its just about what you can do to modernize it and for some odd reason publishers think it requires a shitty animated comedy level of character making. I think gears of war 4 was where I realized how often it was happening, and then by back 4 blood I just accepted it as a requirement for all current games, but its even worse when your character is in a story and requires more depth than the dumpsters they make them as. Bf1 had some insane voice actors, in all of the languages when things got tense you could tell just from how your character spoke basic callouts, medic game was harsh.

Take it as you please.
battlefield 1's intro was really good. stuff like showing the soldier's name and lifetime was a pretty smart touch to help with the constantly pervasive theme of wwi being a decidedly not-fun time. it was kind of cheesy, but i still feel like it was super well-done and really captured a hostile atmosphere
it's strange how they went from "war is hell" to "war is fun" so quickly

Damn bro, you must have some serious brain damage for it to take Battlefield 1 of all games for you to realize this
Even in the dozen introduction narrations of battles in BF1, where you don't even know the language, the voice sticks in your mind and is very memorable and also the emotion is very clear. I was watching RED 2 recently and recognised the voice actor from BF1 who narrates all the Ottoman perspectives, that is how memorable the voices are in BF1.
Not only are the lines cringe but these people’s faces look like they just walked out of a Starbucks after ordering their spiced pumpkin latte.
Exactly!!
I can agree. I never liked this operator idea. BF class system was best of all, and now it's destroyed
I remember seeing a video a long time ago in which a bf4 dev said something similar explaining why your protagonist had no voice lines in the campaign
Agree. I felt the true atmosphere and horror of war in BF1, but in 2042 it looks like you're playing Nerf with friends outside and imagining this war in your head
the bf 1 ones acc gave me chills wtf
Bf1 probably shot people’s leg off for voice lines and bf2042 probably found some people in an alleyway behind Walmart that were high on drugs and then got them to do the voice lines
I've never heard these lines in BF1 before, but damn hearing them sent shivers down my spine.
You have multiple spines?

god those bf1s almost made me cry
please dont forget the bf1 operations, pre round, war cries.. so intense! after years i still get goosebumps when hearing them
BF1: Actual war, young men thrown into battle, PTSD, Literally going through hell.
BF2042: Fortnite/Apex humor.
Bf1: these kids shouldn't be here
Bf2042: these kids shouldn't be here 😡😡🤬🤬🤬
Stark difference between BF1 and BF2042:
Battlefield 1's soldiers are basically just normal people who had to enlist in a war they didn't want. Normal people like you and me.
echt stark
And in BF2042 the soldiers think warcrimes are nothing more than funny games. Not even CoD operators are like that.
@@penisman5000 i respect your opinion. utsoho is a cool character as well
@kc korea You are right.
Only thing you need is for you to be tall enough that you can safely take a peek from underneath the parapets. This was well documented on "They Shall Not Grow Old"
Bf1 operations, still the best immersive gamemode to ever graze the gaming industry
It really is
Until BFV made a worse version and 2042 is nonexistent, just breakthrough with no outcome history on either side's victory and loss.
@@jacknedry3925 I literally only played operations in bf1 lol
@@knox7945 Exactly it was garbage in bf5. But I'll tell you what, in 10 years from now people will look back on this gamemode in bf1 in a very positive light and will want it back. In operations the heroic last stand of a point always felt like you had an impact on the outcome of a literal war and I know I'm not the only one who felt this. From the different language introductions to the explanation of historical battles, everything was done so well that it fully immersed you in the experience of being a foot soldier in a grand battle. Everybody played the objective, everybody helped in pushes, everybody tried their best to win one for the team atleast on the front lines it was like that
@@knox7945 well theres no history to 2042 it hasn't happened yet lol
Mass murder, seeing your comrade blown apart by a tank shell,
Big smug grin on face, dead psychotic eyes: "That was something, right!?!"
The sound design team blew it outta the water.
Battlefield 1 kinda woke me up to the horror and reality of ww1, as well as war in general. 2042 did not
2042 showed me that memes and tik tok cringe might make its way to ww3
I really hope they don't add an anime waifu tank skin in the future
@@highoctanesynx7950 They already have a santa skin for Boris. No thank you, sticking to BF1 and BF4

BF1 was just a beautifully made game in general, fantastic stories that pulled you into the game and payed respect to those who had to suffer through the horror of trench warfare
nobody cares about single player you idiot
"Payed respect ..."
LOL ! French was in DLC... is that respect for my family who fought in trench... No !
@@Scorphyr maybe they shouldn't have been French? Don't know what to tell ya man.
@@David-vw5hf This is insane, WW1 took place in France (not only ofc), French men do one of the most Deadliest battle in human history, Verdun, France was Completly destroyed after that and they are sold in DLC?... This is a fucking shame for DICE. And that explain why BF1 didn't work well in France, cause everybody was "Dude WTF? Where are we?"
Fun fact, Farmer in Verdun still blow themself by hitting some random shell in the dirt today, verdun is still a land mine
B1: Они идут! Я не хочу умирать Боже
B2042: Еееее! Война это весело!)
So true bestie
I feel BF 2042 dehumanizes war and it really creeps me out the approach EA took with the characters and the lack of self awareness they have.
War is about fear, horror, anguish that first part in Battlefield 1 really captured that, being surrounded by the enemy and dying over and over again as different soldiers. It tries to show you firefights aren’t a ‘fun’ experience.
That, and half of these quips in a warfare scenario like Battlefield 2042 sound like the sort that a psychopath would make. You know, a villain?
Really not just battlefield either but call of duty for instance. Not multiplayer per say, but the campaign. The first couple of CODs and the experience you had in the campaign was terrifying, showing some of the horrors of war but yet drew you back in with a great storyline and great characters. Vanguard does none of these, and simply just pushes the war aspect to the side in favor of the storyline. Almost normalizing the war happening.

It honestly amazes me how they go from a 10/10 masterpiece that is BF1 and just drop the ball with the newer installments.
While BF1 might not the the most accurate depiction of WW1, its definitely the most immersive, tense and atmospheric game for me in the series
Absolutely agree. I still play BF1, feel like I'm in real WW1 combat. I can feel fear, when tank or flamethrower is near me and i can't do nothing to defeat them
@@FDDFGGSHORTS Gotta blow the whistle when you´re about to storm an objective and use the quick chat for those sweet voicelines that make the game even more immersive
Just yesterday, I was playing a round of operations on Battlefield 1, and near the end of the match, there was so much fog and dirt flying in the air that you couldn't see 20 feet in front of you, all the while, screams and explosions were ringing all around us in the trenches, while we were trying desperately to hold our last position from the enemy.
I swear, that game is sometimes a fucking masterpiece.
Nah, wouldn't fly with safe space ideologies. Even today, the things soldiers say during training would cause those at Dice to hyperventilate.
@@anonomaly Do you need a safe space?
Battlefield 1 voice lines made it feel like a battlefield.
2042 makes it feel like your playing cod.
A cool detail for this game (i think this was in BFV also) is when enemy throw grenade close to your feet, you can hear your character panicking, like legit fear.
You forgot WELL WELL WELL THAT WAS FuUuN

@Urn Turn "HeLl yEaH DEuUuUdE!!!"
@Ballsack arm guy We don't talk about that...thing.
