Great idea! Just followed your steps and it worked! I had a 2007 grand prix little heat. Paid for coolant flush, changed the thermostat, and purged air with no results. Did your procedure and boom I have heat. Collected lots of sludge too from the dexcool.
I have the same car and had the same problem. I did what he said and it worked great. It took 10 minutes. My heater blasts now for the first time since I got it. One thing I did different was extend the heater hose a few feet with a 1/2" nipple nipple into a jug in a better location. I later flushed the whole cooling system. Glad I did, more stuff was in the radiator.
jess: thianks for this video,as im on a tight time frame .i did not want to deal with the fire wall clamps on the heater coil. YOUR VIDEO IS THE BEST WAY.ONLY THING I DID DIFFERENT WAS I USED WATER.I WAS COMPLETELY DON E IN LESS THAN 7 MIN COMPLETE JOB.
Would using a water hose instead of air been a bad idea? It's a good idea to flush the entire system (reverse flow) if you can. Also, if anyone wants rid of dex cool, make sure you get out every last drop. If it mixes with ethylene glycol it will coagulate and clog then destroy the engine.
Sa la fonctionné avec mon Buick Allure 2007. Attention, pour pas que la chruche sacre le quand avec la pression de l'air. Une petit trou dans le haut de la chruche pour faire passé l'air, sa aide.
Just so you know the coolant constantly goes through the heater core. It dosnt just go through there when the thermostat opens. Coolant comes into the engine then to the heater core then once the coolant is hot enough the thermostat opens and coolant goes to the radiator and process repeats
I have an 04 3800 , A/C blows out of all vents when actuated however the Heat doesn't blow at all. Is this an issue that you had when fixing this gripe? I'll have to do these troubleshooting steps and see what happens. Thank you
I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix now I have no heat we put antifreeze in it, replaced radiator which had a lot of rust, replaced the thermostat, flushed the system and the heater core and still no heat... I don’t know what to do. My car overheats too, and we’re thinking it needs a new temperature control sensor or a new thermostat because we put In the new radiator after we got the 1st new thermostat. I don’t understand what could be wrong there is no antifreeze on baseboards and no other leaks
Check thermostat by boiling. I've seen new ones that are bad. Also I've seen water pump blades disintegrate to where they can't circulate antifreeze. Make sure system is bled correctly.
I have a 2008 grand prix I use dex cool it all chalked up this antifreeze is known to do this!! Is this the only kind of antifreeze I can use cause the dex crap HORRIBLE it almost like they know this does this so you have to repair hoses, water pump radiator flushes or new radiator ugh
Prestone 3 full n 1 half half after..... run straight water thermostat housing remove radiator hose on passenger's side let drain water hose on thermostat housing into intake. Of course remove thermostat b4hand. Disconnect hearcore lines 5/8ths tube pair with 5/8ths hose into pail run water threw. I reccomend pulling radiator draining running water down one side letting drain out other repeat opposite. Then u know damn well you've got it all yeh a little extra work a little more bs but it's the correct way the rite way to flush the system.
I'm sorry but the cooling system runs at only 17 lbs max and you were using 50 lbs even in short bursts you're risking blowing the heatercore apart and some people don't know how to do short bursts they think a little is good a lot is better a water hose can produce enough pressure to wreck the heatercore in the hands of someone that doesn't know better

I had the same problem. I followed your technic and voila! It worked, heat extremely hot. Thank you.

Thank you so much for posting this video!! This was my exact problem and is fixed now because of watching this. THANK YOU!
Hi Mel - You're welcome! Glad it helped! Just watched this for the 1st time in awhile - sorry, I talked so slow :-)

thank you so much for this tip...it worked fantastic and the heat in my 08 is great. the whole thing only took like 10 min.

Did your recommended purge of the heater core on our 2007 GP with 152K miles and walla, got heat. Thanks...

It worked for me thanks

So what do I do if this problem happens often I’ve had my 08 for a while now and it seems to clog once or twice a year
Man I wish I could do this I feel mine is the sameissue it's same car same color actually

Did you bleed the cooling system?
Good video, thanks for sharing, one question, if you r car requieres DEXCOOL but you do nto want to use it , what coolant would you put in your car?
Yes Please tell us....
Prestone 50/50 if do not want to mix your self with he pure.

Get rid of Dexcool that's your problem any gaskets you need just put in regular antifreeze
If it's clogged too badly and you could blow a seam in your core, though. Good video though.

100% true
That was me I'd drain the whole engine which is what I'm going to do with mine. Going green not red.
Yep!
hate smacking with or without food...👎
Any DeX cool is junk for engine
That car sounds horrible..GOOOOOT DAMN..😐😐😐
Dexcool is GARBAGE
