My son Vinny is 3. Notice his left eye turning inward when focusing, progressed more frequently over four months, pediatric visit, refer to a vision doc, he was prescribed glasses, thick ones, 6.50 -1.25×180, 6.50-1.00×170. Farsighted. Intermittent Esotropia Accommodative. Now up to this point I had never had Vinny fall, bump his head. Points out planes to letters when reading books. I needed a 2nd opinion. I week after this visit went to a pediatric ophthalmologist, through the basic eye exam, droplets she prescribed Vinny different lens. 5.75 -1.00 005, 6.00 -1.75 039. She also said Vinny has accommodative esotropia, farsighted, 20/40 vision in left (eye with esotropia)20/25 vision in right. That surgery is not recommended.
I'm scared, I'm trying to understand the doctors language. I'm currently wearing glasses without lens as Vinny is wearing his glasses ( helps him know its ok to wear glasses, cool dude glasses), it only has been two days. He seems find with them on and does so far straighten the left eye. I just don't know why not surgery, she said to avoid walleye and having to correct again alignment in the future. I m going to get a third, fourth out of pocket or not option. I definitely need two professional docs to have the same opinion. Don't know if there is any advice or knowledge anyone could share, it would be greatly helpful. God bless

They didn't suggest surgery because your child can out grow it. Accomadative esotropia it the best type of esotropia to have because when you treat it early the eye muscles can develop properly as they grow. I wouldnt suggest surgery on such a young child that is still growing and developing. If the glasses fix the issue that it a very good sign. My mom had this condition when she was a child and outgrew it when she was 11 or 12. I freaked out when my daughter had it but her vision is improving.

My daughter was diagnosed with this condition recently, the doctor prescribed glasses, can the glasses correct this to where she will no longer need them? Is there an alternative to glasses for this condition? Thanks for the video, it was very informative

My 1.5 years old son was diagnosed with accommodative esotropia, glasses prescribed +6.5 and +8.0. I feel horrible with the verdict - glasses for his entire life...

Why does only ONE eye cross and not both in accomodative esotropia . Also howcome only some far sighted kids have esotropia and others dont. BTW ive suffered accomodative esotropia since age 1. I also have high amounts of astigmatism all around migraines blurriness. Is this condition genetic im the only person in my family tree to have this condition siblings are all 20/20 my parents have 20/20 eye sight. Most of my cousins see well i have a few slight myopes who are -1 . Also how come people with myopia don't have eye crossing??Also do kids ever outgrow this condition howcome so do others dont. I never outgrew this condition if anything they got worse :(

I have this as well, and I’m 22. I’ve been wearing glasses all my life and it’s not better. I’m getting lasik next week, so hopefully it’s going to fix my eyes 🤞🏻

I've had esotropia for close to 18 years now it's a rare case where I can change which eye turns in but can't straighten them. I hated glasses myself and honestly still do, but I ended up just getting used to them. But if she is very persistent to not wear them try to "show" her what will happen if she does not like fake being hurt when taking off glasses or reward her for wearing them.

We agree that rewards are very helpful. For us, we recommend parents reward their young children with something they want more than anything, one-on-one undistracted time with their favorite people - their parents. We'll tell people to play their favorite activity with just them but they have to wear their glasses during it.
Also, we always want to make sure the glasses are fitting well/comfortable. Sometimes it's just a poorly fit pair of glasses.
We also love to give kids compliments about their glasses and make them feel that they have superpowers because of the glasses. Compliments, rewards, positive feedback when they're good and diligence. We know it's hard but it's just as important as when you taught her that fire is hot, dangerous clean supplies are poisonous and at a certain age she shouldn't take all of her clothes off in a grocery store. :-) This time you're just teaching her that keeping her glasses on is one of the most important things you're doing for her now. Otherwise, soon she'll need both glasses and patching.
Lastly, call your eye doctor's office. They can guide you through this journey. Best of luck.

Reward?!!! I wore my glasses to sleep as soon as I got them when I was young because I wanted to see my dreams
