I've asked myself What is my purpose here on this earth? It has been a long journey, but I believe I was put on earth to serve and to love others. It's wonderful when it is reciprocated, but I find the most joy in giving unconditionally. When I look into the faces of my children and grand children, I know why I am here. I was in the medical profession for 32 years and know my work made a difference in so many people lives. Respect, kindness, and compassion. The greatest thing I did was listen. Listening has become a lost art, and so many people need to be heard. We all need to take time to just listen to one another. These are what the world needs more of. I am "retired" now and am searching for what I am meant to do now and again am asking What is my purpose?

Love seeing others in my age group appreciating this woman’s work. I had my spiritual awakening at age 59. I’m three years into this amazing journey. I’m having the time of my life❤
My mother, God rest her soul, had the foresight to invite us to her home to choose what we would like from her dish collections. Bless her, she had not only her china but also had inherited her mother's, two great grandmother's, her sister, and her sister's mother in law's china and dish sets. It was overwhelming. We were raised to value family and family traditions. Even though some of the pieces I chose were not necessarily my taste, I am so very glad to have them now, especially now that she is not here physically. I know how much she valued them. I look at them in my china hutch and think of the wonderful meals served on them as friends and families gathered around the table for holidays and meals. It's a shame the younger generations are not interested in having them. They would be a beautiful memory and connection to family and friends. I selected a pair of flamingos that had belonged to my grandmother, which I did not want at the time...none of us would take them. I could see the hurt in my mom's face, and said "Sure, I'll take them!" As soon as I unwrapped them and put them in my hutch I immediately felt a connection with my Grandma Margie. They are fairly large (one reason that no one wanted) but they are probably from the late 30's or early 40's. I know my mom felt that same connection to them. It isn't about the objects as much as it is about the connections they represent. They have become one of my prized possessions. My daughter in law loves flamingos, so I know who will be receiving them.
Perfect. yes yes. I'm 76, moved 4 years ago into senior co-op building with about 75 people. Everyone downsized first, and continues downsizing. Everyone is equal and all pretension is dropped, no matter our histories or persuasions. We value our connections and current shared reality.

I have worked healing and supporting people all my life but after that I thought something more was going to happen. It didn't. The last few months I have been in my cave time again. I have felt like my life is entering a new phase but I dont know where or what. I still support some by phone. It's a strange time. I'm 73 and was feeling like my life was completely pointless but now I've been feeling happy just listening to the Crickets and Cicadas. Apparently its time to write. I have never been much good at sitting still so find that daunting, so along came an illness that immobilized me 😂 Now I'm functioning with certain meds but am learning to be still. Carolyn, when you taught many yrs ago, about Midline medicine in Western culture verses what this kid was talking about in Eastern culture medicine ( Xiaomanyc he is fluent in Chinese, Mandarin, English, He's a young man on you tube discovering Eastern culture medicine, I had thought over 30 yrs ago reading your books, by combining the two types of medicine was the cure, or at least give a level of comfort to my mother when she was dying of 4 brain tumors and lung cancer, or for others. That in being in a level of in of care for another person, is not a horrible thing. It would be like explaining that by buying a Hepa filter might reduce your allergies? Or explaining that the stuffing inside the furniture is causing allergies? Carolyn, you got me to think about being broad minded about what is good medicine? Why was I born? To learn what my soul needed that knowledge to expand my horizons, be a better person. And thank you for St. Assisi prayers, helped a lot!
