Phil thank you for another outstanding video. Before fading I was part of a Bethel congregation. We had a “special” talk from a person in the Legal Department outlining their department’s lobbying efforts with a variety of federal officials. Like a group of fish eating seals clapping for more, the congregation ate it up without ever thinking of the hypocrisy of the entire situation. Anton Koerber, very interesting you mention him. I know some wealthy JW’s who were brought in by him. Those he recruited were given extremely preferential treatment (one couple was interviewed at an International Convention - their first meeting, unbaptized. The message was clear - you join these people and you’ll own this place.) As with everything else, neutrality is an entirely self-serving Watchtower doctrine - all about the organization and nothing about the suffering individual.

I remember reading a more recent article about their political neutrality which was very detailed. The conclusion that I come to is that, once again, the Watchtower calls all the shots. They decide what is 'political neutrality', what that means and whether they have overstepped the mark or not, which they conclude that they haven't. But further to that, they decide what is allowable for the rank and file, which has changed over the years. Again, this isn't left up to the conscience but is strictly prescribed and punishment is included.
When Stephen Lett said “We don’t fight for our rights”, he really meant that “you don’t fight for your rights, but we as an organization do”. So astonishingly hypocritical! Let’s see them apply their own counsel and just leave the matter in Norway in Jehovah’s hand? 🤷🏽♂️

Great video and outstanding research. I was in Brooklyn Bethel in the 1990s and Alan Gallina was my table head! Small world indeed. I also remember the Bethel family being told about how Max Larson did lobbying and convinced local politicians and union leaders to help get the 90 Sands building completed in the way that Watchtower wanted. At the time we all ate it up as Jehovah's blessing.

When I went to work at Bethel for a week back in the 80s, I was seated at Max Larson’s table in the Bethel dining room. At the time I had no clue who he was.
I'm a 5th generation born in now ex JW and my grandparents, aunt and mother were some of the first BS's then JW's, and I can hear myself explaining away almost everything here. How interesting it all is, and it's for certain that my mother, whose sudden passing in 2012 leaving me the only living family member and shocking me awake in a most unpleasant way (I mean they all died, and they told me they never would) must have seen so so very many iterations and changes, and yet although intelligent, not a single solitary doubt ever befell her. It was always "the light gets brighter". I really enjoy history, and your presentation of facts, without opinion allows me the space to think about what you present. I'm not sure if you read comments, but I was a child of the late 60's here in Toronto (where the 150 Bridgeland Canada Branch office was in the sticks when I was young), and have myself seen so much change as to make JW's completely unrecognizable from what I now call "the good old fashioned religion", including the new (ugh) Bible, the online cartoons and nonsense, the new attempt at "the generation of 1914" explanation and much else that unfortunately, I won't ever be able to ask my so devout aunt and mother about. Sigh. I don't often watch ex JW channels as I find it really painful, but history as you present it is indeed interesting. In my era, going to The Supreme Court and setting new precedents in Quebec regarding freedom of religion and in Canada regarding blood were the big "government" involved things I recall. Now I'm remembering something I watched a few years ago which looked at JW involvement and investments involving the UN and some really shady New York City Corporations. I travelled quite often to Brooklyn, and all of it's holdings, grand hotels, halls and branch offices and factories. There is a whole lot of nostalgia for certain, but unfortunately, it destroyed my family, resulted in my brother's early death, and left me alone in the world. I've made many friends over the years, but I honestly never had the really good ones I had "back in the good old days". I'm very politically aware and opinionated now, as I suppose my keen sense of right and wrong and of justice leads me to be a bit of a geo-political expert and historian. I still find the most peace in music, art, and being in nature. Br. Knorr was often at our Kingdom Hall, one of the original ones in Toronto, and our Conventions, wherever they were. The Governing Body members to my knowledge were all unmarried, "anointed" then. How times have changed. Even if I wished to, I wouldn't fit in at all with today's newfangled mentally lazy "religion". Thanks for researching this information! You sent me down a rabbit hole to see what the WT may have said specifically about religious lobbying in their literature. The January 1, 1982 Watchtower had an article, "The Churches Are Getting Involved." Some choice quotes: "In the United States some religions maintain lobbyists right in the nation's capital, to try to influence lawmakers.... Such lobbying has been going on in a discreet way for a long time." It goes on to note that more recently some efforts have been "much less discreet," listing special interest groups, heavy monetary donations to revolutionary movements, and clergy joining revolutions or running for political office. But this quote is the kicker: "How do you view such political activity by religious leaders?... It may be that you do not object to religions directly speaking out on political issues but are uneasy about priests' joining in the revolutions. **Yet, if we agree to any religious involvement in politics, it is difficult to say where it should stop.**" They continue on with the slippery slope argument to create the implication -- without outright saying-- that any religious lobbying is problematic and not "really the best way for religion to help mankind." So very typical of the WTS to heap scorn on other religions for doing what they are themselves doing in secret.

Very interesting video Phil! I found that bit about Robert Hendriks, chief Jehovah’s Witness spokesman in the US writing an article in the Seventh-day Adventist Church Liberty magazine very curious. Lol. Interestingly, in April 1885 Charles Taze Russell had an article by George Ide Butler (the 2nd General Conference President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church) published in the Watch Tower as well. Talk about SDAs and JWs writing in each other's journals!

He published companion magazines to what the organizations did. But at some point Russell decided to reign in other voices aside from his own and called him out. "Thankfully" Harteva "regainer spiritual balance" in JW speak. (90yb 152) Rutherford only continues that strategy, as all weak men wanting control do.

Love this video. I'm definitely not one to defend JWs, but I'd really start to question their neutrality if the lobbyists somehow made it clear WT preferred one party over another. I think as an organization, they prefer Republican. I tend to think individual JWs lean slightly left (just personal opinion). I've obviously seen heavily leaning right JWs too.

Thanks for researching this information! You sent me down a rabbit hole to see what the WT may have said specifically about religious lobbying in their literature. The January 1, 1982 Watchtower had an article, "The Churches Are Getting Involved." Some choice quotes: "In the United States some religions maintain lobbyists right in the nation's capital, to try to influence lawmakers.... Such lobbying has been going on in a discreet way for a long time."
It goes on to note that more recently some efforts have been "much less discreet," listing special interest groups, heavy monetary donations to revolutionary movements, and clergy joining revolutions or running for political office.
But this quote is the kicker:
"How do you view such political activity by religious leaders?... It may be that you do not object to religions directly speaking out on political issues but are uneasy about priests' joining in the revolutions. **Yet, if we agree to any religious involvement in politics, it is difficult to say where it should stop.**"
They continue on with the slippery slope argument to create the implication -- without outright saying-- that any religious lobbying is problematic and not "really the best way for religion to help mankind."
So very typical of the WTS to heap scorn on other religions for doing what they are themselves doing in secret.

Very interesting video Phil! I found that bit about Robert Hendriks, chief Jehovah’s Witness spokesman in the US writing an article in the Seventh-day Adventist Church Liberty magazine very curious. Lol. Interestingly, in April 1885 Charles Taze Russell had an article by George Ide Butler (the 2nd General Conference President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church) published in the Watch Tower as well. Talk about SDAs and JWs writing in each other's journals!

Kaarlo Hateva, in Finland, had a similar run in with Russell He was a mover in Finland during the end of Russell's life and spearheaded the work there. He published companion magazines to what the organizations did.
But at some point Russell decided to reign in other voices aside from his own and called him out. "Thankfully" Harteva "regainer spiritual balance" in JW speak. (90yb 152)
Rutherford only continues that strategy, as all weak men wanting control do.

I am extremely interested in their money-making ventures, which range from real estate and tourism to running nursing homes and farms. I don’t think anything they have their sticky fingers dipped in would surprise me. Also, there’s some weird US military tie-in, probably never know the whole of that 😮
Love this video. I'm definitely not one to defend JWs, but I'd really start to question their neutrality if the lobbyists somehow made it clear WT preferred one party over another. I think as an organization, they prefer Republican. I tend to think individual JWs lean slightly left (just personal opinion). I've obviously seen heavily leaning right JWs too.

Some say the thief on the cross next to Jesus was not Baptized yet Jesus told him he would be with him that day in Paradise. Jesus had not yet given the COMMANDMENT to be Baptized in His Name until after he rose from the dead and just before he ascended into heaven. The thief or anyone else could not have been Baptized in His Name because they did not know about it. There is not one scripture that says a person receives the Holy Ghost just because they are a believer. Acts 19:1-5 is a good example.

Then a screen will show a Church nearest you that will do that.
If you do the above you will be making SURE your name is written in the Lamb's Book Of Life.
