11:37 That is funny, here in the Netherlands we have high voltage problems when its hot and sunny because of the massive amount of solar panels boosting the voltage to push power away.
Does the tilt of the Earth change that? (Winter/Summer) Basically during winter does the grid also build up high? (regardless of resistive heaters / etc)
Haha true funny how some problems are solutions for others
Hey, I like how your so kind. Your masterpieces of fixing condensing units are excellent
I always find it cool how quickly pipes will frost over, even in 105-110F. I know why it does it, but i still think its cool
Cool indeed, you see what I did there
@@HVACRVIDEOS you know, I did. I had half a mind to sit my post after I realized what I had done 😂 but I figured someone else can have it since I missed it the first time
You have a reputation of honesty and reliability. Thats why these companies give you carte blanche on emergency repairs
I appreciate that
every service tech, "the freezer is down again and ya'll were just here"
Why would the tech say that? Did you mean service call?
Maybe he meant customer. You can never make them understand that a 16 year unit that only has reactive maintenance may have more that one problem. I always use cars to make them understand.
Can't tell you how many times I've heard that. "It's down, you guys were just out here a few weeks ago." Yeah... well it's 12 years old and you barely do maintenance lol.
I looking into getting my hvac. I’ve learned lots by watching your videos. One of my kids friends dad is an hvac tech and I’ve gone with him on a couple jobs and he was shocked how well I could get units working again. Under his supervision of course.
Honest work is what will keep you busy and the corporate office happy. Great video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Usually I like coming up through the roof slightly higher with the refrigeration line slanted towards the compressor for the oil return also I add a p-trap when we are up to the roof slightly higher slant the refrigeration line straight towards the compressor to ensure a good oil return increase the efficiency
I manage a residential building here in NYC and we have a big 50 Ton package unit on the roof for the hallways. It would constantly trip the phase protection as it is wired for 208 and we would be getting 198 volts. We are going to install a step-up transformer to bring it up to 220 volts so if the voltage drops we shouldn't have a problem. Mind you this building is a year old.
Mannn I’m in hvacr I work at a hospital been in the trade not for a year I’ve been watching your vids since I was in school ! I really take out alot on how you diagnosis systems ! Really appreciate you man 🔥🔥👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Watch his older videos. They are the best for learning the basic. He has held me down since the pandemic. I hope he reaches a million and techs can move as one without all the bad habits and hack stuff.
@@sherwinalvarez7365hacks are good until you go back and fix it properly
Thanks bud
I love the big old scary looking angry compressor it’s the best part! I wouldn’t want to meet it in a dark alley!
Lol
Here in Adelaide 🇦🇺 in summer when we have temps around 44-46°C+ (111°-115°F+) we have had low voltage issues in the past, recently they did replace the high voltage lines in the area, and put some capacitors up for us and we no longer have those issues. But when we did have those low voltages, it would always trip the safety cutout. Glad I purchased a generator for those times. Love the install videos, and would love to see some more OT callouts, you know the ones that you can't be $%#^ filming.........
Lol, I'll see what I can do about the call out videos, thanks for watching
Still sticking with the intro! As always great job with all that you do especially in the summer heat. I know that it’s no longer summer as of you posting this, but I respect you for having to work in that heat.
Thanks bud
❤ lol that compressor?? She was not long on this earth!! But I got one she moans she groans she rattles, but she just keeps on cooling. I have advised my customer of the downside of not replacing it before it burns up 🤷🏻♂️ but not my call is theirs!! Also? I totally agree with you rotating that unit somehow or another in the airflow on the roof area. Dust an debris was being sucked in from that direction only. Great find an decision!! Nice install clean an neat👍👍
I work for a after school program. I kept telling them they needed to get The roof top looked at because you could hear the compressor on the ground. I had a go around with the tech that came out because he kept saying everything is ok nothing was wrong. Sure enough 2 weeks later he was back chaning it out wouldn't say a word to me. Come to find out its not the first time hes done crap like that a was fired a month later.
probably wasn't anything wrong, except the already damaged and dying compressor. 🤣
Typical Cali voltage 187 is the minimum that you can run a 208 device on without issues. This is why I run everything on batteries and charge them
If I Lived in California, I would be really concerned about what Power Companies are Not doing to Improve Grid. Residents are Exiting Florida, California & Colorado
They have such a big potential to use Solar and Wind Energy to stabilize the Grid. Sad they don't use it wisely.
@@skorpion1298 wind turbines and solar panels love hurricanes, forest fires and huge debris smashing through them....
@@skorpion1298too much corruption and corporate greed
People are not leaving Florida. Tampabay area where I live is going lots growth and people are the cause of it.
3:35 I always wonder if it would help / make sense if you would make a sun cover for the condensor? Wouldn't that help with high heat?
No that would do nothing. It's cooled by airflow not by being in the shade
Fractional
Probably wouldn't do enough to make it worth the effort
Love it 😊Keep up the great work your doing 😊🤝 Soild Labor 💯
Thanks bud
that is crazy Chris whats happening with the three phase power that is so ....... up wow never seen that before.
Hope they fix the electrical issue with the breakers . They potentially could lose both units because of it.
I hope so as well
@@HVACRVIDEOS with that breaker situation, I hope this isn't the restaurant where they throw the breaker for product deliveries...
In terms of damage though, is single phasing worse than dual phasing? Or is it a wash, as long as the phase associated with the control voltage goes down?
Just realized.. at least melted ice cream would be great for milkshakes/malts... hopefully those are on the menu lol.
Low grid voltage - you may want to actually put that into the calculations when you size a unit for tonnage/BTU. With the low voltage you just showed at this location, the unit is at 87% normal capacity just because of voltage - or a 15% derate.
That's a valid point, thanks
I agree no one perfect tool or equipment They all have highs and lows. Great video
Thanks bud
Great video. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching
I did not see any p-trap inside the box I have not seen the refrigeration line slant towards the compressor for oil return it is on the opposite that is not good for the oil return
"I turned it on and it's phased correctly" - He says as he turns on all the different breakers the machine is split onto.
Nice video as always. I do watch your videos but these are more toward technicians and such and that is fine.. but i'm curious would it be possible show some videos installing normal small units and some Heat pump equipment for normal houses..even i understand you work on big equipment for big companies and such..but for home owners it would be more helpful to show some more videos with heatpums and such..Thanks/
I have a house project series about the system I replaced in my home. However I don't do residential service so videos showing residential installations or repairs are hard to come by.
it could always be a fart fan, pumping butt-dust into the condenser. 🤪
Nothing like the moment you realize it all poop dust and skin flakes in the fart fan wheel
193V holy moley
Great video Chris and I was wondering is that power supposed to be 208 volt or 220 volt? Either way the power company is the worst excuse for a utility and typical of the California infrastructure. They use the "Within 10 percent" to their advantage to get away with doing nothing to keep the grid running and the customers equipment pays the price (as well as you and your dedicated techs). I was curious as "Hot Swapping" do you ever get freezer burns from the refrigerant using your finger to block it? Thanks so much for taking us along on this one.
that would be a 208v 3 phase area, and it's about 8% low. 😒
@@throttlebottle5906that's about right
Great job Chris has always.
Thanks
Have you ever considered a buck boost transformer or auto-transformer for the low voltage issues. Just curious. I could see it helping...especially with excessive current draw....low voltage/high current that im sure you run into all the time
Ive suggested it before to customers, but it might be worth checking into again
It's the shipping companies that are usually damaging equipment but you can tell when it's the manufacturer. Perfect box but smashed equipment=manufacturer, damaged box damaged equipment=shipper
Yes, very true
got a question relating to the Discord that was mentioned in one or two videos, is that still around or has that since been discontinued?
whatever be feasible to have a power conditioner especially for the control circuits of that equipment?
Could you re word that for me
Great video love your work.God Bless.
Thanks
ah customer supplied equipment always fun
Always an adventure
I hope you checked the rating on the DTC valve
Very nice install. I gotta move to the inland empire 😅.
Thanks
Almost seems like one of those condenser fans had the wrong blade/motor combo? If one is drawing 0.8A and the other is drawing 0.4A, one is doing twice the work, moving twice as much air...
They were two different types of motors, one was a shaded pole and one was a psc (permanent split capacitor) motor the psc motor draws less amps
Rivet nuts are my friend and should be yours too. 😉
Were those two new pressure switches worth removing from the old unit?
Good job Chris
Thanks bud ?
I do not see any accumulator I did not see a CPR valve?
Sounds like Edison needs to upgrade the Grid?!
Yeah, major upgrade
can you explain what the deviation means sometime?
What do you mean by deviation? Deviation form what?
@@HVACRVIDEOS at 10:55 you said it only has a deviation of -1.4
Ahh so I was using the Copeland mobile app (Copeland is the manufacturer of the compressor) they have an app that basically tells you if the compressor is performing properly and it’s based on the deviation from their published numbers. So the compressor itself was still pumping correctly it had an acceptable performance according to their app
The fan rpm on the left fan was definitely slower
That might explain the run current
with the low voltage as it is now,, ok now throw 500.000 EV'S on the grid. yep this is all good i see no problems.
that pore compressor sounds so bad
Headmaster?
Yeah, we don't cheat.
Awesome bro🤙
Thanks
As an engineer who works on utility lines, while I understand high demand and high heat and all, they really should have more voltage regulators or something if areas are dropping by that much voltage. The existing ones must be maxing out and unable to compensate enough. I can only assume the lines don't have the capacity for that, in which case, I hope they're planning on upgrading them eventually. Modern electronics don't don't like it and motors, like compressors, will run hotter because of it.
I hope its sooner rather than later but I doubt they have plans to upgrade in the near future.
Hmm too bad you couldn't filter the air through the condenser motor
Yes, to bad
Wooooooooo, early notification!
Chris are you located in Florida?
No I am not
@@HVACRVIDEOS Great. Love your Video’s. My Step Brother is a HVAC tech. He works at a family owned business. He loves it.
Need some more EV chargers on line.
Lol
Bitchin channel! Love the vids!

40th thumbs up
OMG at 8:30 I wish you had rubber gloves on. I heard stories of injected air in unknowing people. If you have a small cut on your finger, you could inject air of some kind and be killed.
I will be sure to avoid this in the future, I don't want to be inflated
These 3.3 in condenser fan motors are such garbage that I just change them as a pair. If one goes out chances are the other one is not far behind it, let alone not visibly slower than the new motor
Yes I normally change them out in pairs as well
i survived hurricane Milton
Glad to hear that
Was it a fart fan?
Got to get a buck and boost for that dirty power
👌😊👍🤮🙌🙌🍀🍀
Clear silicone is not UV stable. It is not for use outdoors. And silicone repels paint. If you have to caulk outside dont use silicone. Use a single part urethane, stop using clear silicone outside. Especially the cheap shit home center silicone.
Thanks for the information
I don't know why but always when I wat h your videos my phone (pixel 8 pro) starts to stutter. It was like this too on my old pixel 6.
Something is funny with your videos because I noticed this only on your channel. Anyone else with the same problem?
