I was surprised by that too, but I never took thought of that until later, I searched it up what it meant. Good verse, for dracula when he got defeated and realized what his life meant, but in realization, he traded his soul for revenge against the humans for what they did to his wife Maria.
I know I'm necroposting but it's because for Alucard's whole life, he'd known Dracula to spite God at every opportunity. Quoting the Bible made Alucard realize his father's understanding was genuine. This fight is also the final hour of Mathais Cronqvist, who Dracula had originally been. Any further attempts to revive Dracula revived only his Dark Lord Persona, hence why his behavior is different in the games after this one in the timeline. Dracula would continue to live until 1999. 18 years later, Mathais Cronqvist and Dracula are both reborn as the same person: Soma Cruz.
It gives an interesting look at Dracula as a character as well. The fact that he remembered a favorite part of Bible of his shows that perhaps the dark and evil lord at some point had faith or maybe he read the book to better try to understand something he's always opposed, or perhaps to try and understand humanity better. If he did lose faith, it makes his character even more tragic than it is; he was seeking answers and never really got them until his death.
“Go back whence you came! Trouble the soul of my mother no more!” I was really hoping to hear this line in the Castlevania 2 finale, it gives me goosebumps.
The series on Netflix takes place hundreds of years prior to SOTN. And they are releasing more seasons that will involve a time jump forward, so it's possible it might happen still.
The fact if Maria follows Alucard or not depends on how much of the map you covered in Dracula's Castle. If you get enough, she'll go with Alucard instead of Richter. I believe it is like this in every version.
I loved this game when i played it back in the PSX days =] Never collected all the items and spells though. =\ Makes me wanna play even more. Great battle :D and the quality was really good. :D
So...Dracula's "true form" is him sitting on a throne that looks like it was designed by H.R. Giger? Is he attached to the throne or something? That would certainly be cause for despair!
and not to be used by the belmonts until 1999, that's when the whip was handed down to the morris family, who couldn't use alot like the belmonts can since they are non-belmont they must use that whip wisely or suffer the consequences or atleast that is what i heard
being resurrected countless times can cause once mind to be clouded. also it seems dracula has somewhat regained some of his humanity. as he remembers everything.
The ending of SotN is really far more poignant with the original script. Although it was short, it was certainly one of the best father and son dialogues in any video game. I believe Dracula fervently hoped that Alucard would never come and confront him and it must have cut deep into his heart to see that even his son had turned against him and he would have to fight his own son. Can you imagine losing the woman you love and then losing the last thing on Earth that you love as well? Dracula really loved his family and he only wanted to live in peace with them until his wife was killed by religious fanatics. Notice between the time of Lament of Innocence (1200s) all the way to 1400s, Dracula doesn't bother anybody? Only when Lisa is killed when he really goes berserk and declares war on humanity. And do you think that Leon Belmont is a 'good guy'? He was a crusader knight, and the crusaders were famed for their brutality against the Middle Eastern 'pagans' in the name of their god. He and Matthias participated in lots of bloodshed for the Catholic Church, but at least Matthias had the balls and backbone to turn his back on this cruel establishment.
Only blasphemes or ill informed fools would criticise the crusader, a force borne to expell the invading muslim from christian territories, not only the middle east but also Europe (Spain, Sicily and even southern France). Ironically enough the REAL Dracula (Vlad Tepes III) was a devout Catholic.
Apparently the Crissaegrim is a rare drop. I got it on my first run and assumed it was just standard itemization. I thought the game was way too easy.... which it is, but not 'that' easy. Turns out I just got lucky. Huehuehuehue.
@karlozmme Although I did want to make a series of videos called "Jeepers Cheapers" with the easiest and cheepest ways to defeat bosses. One of these days I might just give it a go.
That's a script change. In the Japanese version the script was different. With the English version there were translations errors which were fixed in the PSP version.
So after everything about richter being controlled into being lofd of dracula's castle, and defeating shaft and dracula, I assume that is when the belmonts are not allowed to touch their legendary "vampire killer" whip because how richter became possessed under shaft's control making him plan the resurrection of Count Dracula, than fighting alucard with that vampire killer whip, but after alucard's success in defeating both shaft and dracula i assume that's when the whip was acting up
Huh. The ending in the remastered PSP version is a bit different. The most significant change being that Maria doesn't actually say she'll go after Alucard. That, and they removed the Bible quote from Dracula and made it a bit more subtle that he caught the "sarcastic" jab Alucard made.
I'm not quite sure which item you mean, but my guy was equipped with the Crissagrim and also crazy high in level too. So that might have had something to do with it.
how the hell?!! Years of playing this over and over again and I never thought that maria could follow alucard?! She always says "its for the best" or some shit like that.
HOLD ON... IF Count Dracula rises ONCE every century... And this is what 1797... And Castlevania takes place in 1691 Then *points to screen *THAT is NOT Count Dracula!!! Is it Gills De Rais?
Shaft reminds me of Palpatine TBH (Alucard enters the Castle Center, where he encounters Shaft) Shaft: Master Alucard. I take it General Death has been destroyed then. I must say, you're here sooner than expected. Alucard: So you are the one called Shaft? Shaft: I am the Senate! Alucard: You made Belmont lord of the castle. Why? Shaft: The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. Only through me can you achieve a power greater than any Jedi. Alucard: ...Then the strongest one among them would eliminate the rest. Belmont. Shaft: Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. Once more, the Sith will rule the galaxy! ...and we shall have...peace. Alucard: But you never planned for me. And now you've failed. Shaft: If you will not be turned, you will be destroyed! Young fool... Only now, at the end, do you understand... Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side. Now, you will pay the price for your lack of vision! (Alucard and Shaft battle) (Shaft defeated) Shaft: I'm too weak...oh...don't kill me...please! Alucard: Your beloved darkness awaits you. Dwell there for all eternity! Shaft: No...no...NO! YOU WILL DIE! (Shaft vanishes, the eye in the room opening and completely darkening the room)
Dracula is correct with his Bible verse. This was also in the book of Mark Jesus said, "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" Mark 8:36
em guys help me understand something... i played this game a long time ago and i did beat it... but i dont remember fighting Shaft... and I dont remember richter being at the end of the game cause i killed him in colosseum... sooooooo wtf did i do? haha
Richter is the final boss if you don't go into the battle with the Holy Glasses. In order to change this, you need to collect the Gold Ring and the Silver Ring. Equip them both as accessories and then go into the room with the clock where you first meet Maria. It'll open up a secret passage. There, you'll meet Maria who confirms Alucard's suspicions and gives you the Holy Glasses. Equip those as an accessory when you fight Richter and you'll see a green sphere floating about him. Attack the sphere instead of Richter and you'll reveal the truth, which is that Shaft is controlling Richter. Shaft leaves and escapes into the upside-down Castlevania and Alucard follows him. From there, you have to play through the castle once again (only it's now upside-down) and defeat new bosses and whatnot. Eventually, in order to actually reach Shaft and subsequently Dracula, you have to use the Gold and Silver rings once again in the upside-down castle's version of the clock room. That will take you to them. You can get to them rather easily but it's fun to actually go after the other bosses first.
Honestly this is probably the worst version of Dracula of them all, you're not really fighting Dracula you are fighting his monster evil "chair", if you look closely he is just sitting there chilling almost not even giving a fuck, terrible
+Chio Chan Genocide I agree with you, my friend. When I played it for the first time, I hoped Dracula stood up and fight Alucard personally.... Such a disappointment......
Dracula wasn't doomed because he lost the ability to love. He was doomed because Alucard found a Crissaegrim.
"found" among the 45 minutes it took passing by that library door to kill the same mob and farm one for each hand

Shaft!
You're damn right.
"You have ever been the ally of HUMANS, who wish to pay ME tribute! Wait, wrong lines."
but you must always remember that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.
The only thing necessary for the good to triumph is for evil men like me to do nothing
"Farewell then. We'll not meet again."
That's Konami talking to the Castlevania series.
"Behold my true form and DESPAIR!!!!"
*one moment later*
"Oogh Augh! Ah! Ow! Oogh! Augh! Ah!"
This game is no longer fun when you get the crissaegrim lol
RagingChadzi or the alucard shield and shield rod
You auto win after Crissaegrim.
A dozen playthroughs later and I firmly disagree.
After you get the Crissaegrim, the game becomes almost as easy as Captain Commando.
Its more fun if you use Library Card against Dracula.
“Go back whence you came!
Trouble the soul of my mother no more!”

I love how the Crissaegrim is so fast the game can't even be bothered to show the hit points xP
Behold the true form of this chair
Shaft is a hypocrite. He says,"we'll see what happens after I destroy your weak human side". He's a human himself.
Galactusgirl I believe you didn't get the point.
He's not a human in spirit.
yes but he's not on the side of humanity, look at hector and isaac for example.

For a game that came out in 1990's this (and MGS. Both are Konami is it counts) has the best voice acting in any game period.
The Save-game polyhedron low-key appears and stores dracula at 4:00 (or not low-key). just noticed this today. fucking love this game to death!
