I have always called it shepherd's pie, I haven't heard the term "cottage pie" until recently, so I think it might be a new school kind of thing, back in the day of olden, we always called it shepherd's pie and I will always call it shepherd's pie! Great recipe, one of my favorite comfort foods!

The end product looked really good, but it's definitely a cottage pie. A shepherds pie, as the name sheep herder suggests, is made from lamb. Your cottage pie looks delicious. (Try mixing an egg into your mashed potato.)
Fair enough! I know true shepherds pie is made with lamb, but we always use ground beef and still call it shepherds pie. Clearly I grew up uncultured😂😂I’ve never added egg…I’ll have to try it😁😁
As a UK lass, it’s blasphemous to name a Cottage Pie a Shepherd’s Pie lmao. Doesn’t bother me mind. There is also a Cumberlands Pie. Same as the minced beef Cottage Pie but this has a layer of breadcrumbs on top of the mashed potatoes. All delicious. If you really want to annoy the traditional folk, add cheese and sliced tomatoes on top of the mash 😊
shepards pie..yummy 😊 i do a easy cheap mock shepards pie...mashed potatoes and top with chunky beef veggie soup (brown gravy type) can add a bit of shredded cheese if you like to.

Oh wow, the final pic looked so good. I won't be trying any lamb and I never heard of shepherd's pie until I was grown. I make something similar and we just call it hamburger junk because I couldn't remember the real name. It was in one of those free recipe booklets that used to be in our grocery stores. I will certainly make your version and proudly call it shepherd's pie. 😅 thanks for sharing.
Gosh, I always thought what I make is Shepherd's Pie. Now I don't know what to call it. Mine is seasoned ground beef sauteed with onion and bell pepper; pour this in baking pan. Then I mix together 15 oz can cream corn and an 8 oz can whole kernel corn. Then spread my mashed potatoes on top dotted with butter. I bake this until potates start to lightly brown. What should I be calling this recipe? 🙂
