    I'm Norwegian, I'm an early retiree.
    prices for most things in Norway are completely insane, one of the only things you can buy cheaper in Norway than otherwise is an electric car. if you're going to have a cayenne it will be more expensive than other places :-P if you're going to Norway, take 3 times the holiday budget you think you need with you. I have moved to Sweden to get slightly more normal prices.

      Nah, if you want to travel to an expensive place, then go to Switzerland or Iceland. The prices for most things in Norway are pretty reasonable. They're not much more expensive than Germany anymore. In the past, when the currency was stronger, it was very expensive in Norway.

    -7 degrees C is not very cold. If you were in Edmonton Canada it would be like minus 25. Oslo is much better in the summer. Also a fast food restaurant meal is about 13 dollars now in the US so not very much different from Norway.

  • @kebman
    @kebman 9 дней назад +4

    Just a heads up, Oslo is not Norway. Well, it's the capital of Norway, of course, but it doesn't really represent what you'd expect from Norway which is high cliffs, wild nature and crazy weather. If you want to experience that, you'll get a small taste in Bergen (probably the easiest trip), but I'd advice you to go either to the fjords in the West, Ålesund perhaps, or to Lofoten in the North. Go North in January or February to catch the magical Aurora, or go to the fjords and mountains in the summer.

    I was in Oslo in summer with a camera, it was amazing experience. It wasn't too expensive, but I guess after covid it went up a lot. There are lots of nice places like churches, opera house roof, Nobel price museum, etc. But its all daylight activities. If you arrive in the evening all you have left is either go somewhere to spend money, or find some activities in the place you ar staying. You should visit Steelhouse in Copenhagen or find similar places in Norway if there are any. Last time I've been there it reminded me student days, the place was packed with live events, good vibes, and you did not feel like stranger, surrounded by diverse people.

    There are like two different airports marketed as being in Oslo, previosly there were three. None of them are actually _in_ Oslo, but Gardermoen is the closest of the two active. Of course, Wizz has very few connections to Gardermoen though so.. There's that.

    • @JohnnyFD
      @JohnnyFD  9 дней назад +1

      It's a bit of a shady tactic for airports to name themselves after a city 2 hours away.

    • @Henoik
      @Henoik 9 дней назад +3

      @@JohnnyFD To be fair, the airport itself markets itself as Sandefjord, which is absolutely correct. It is the airlines who fly there that use the shady marketing techniques as they don't want to pay the premium to fly to Gardermoen, and they know fewer people will fly with them if they say it's two hours away from Oslo. Most airports in Norway (and all international airports) are owned and operated by the government, so they don't really care much about the market forces. Thus, you see in big letters outside the airport it says "Sandefjord Torp." Yes, it is a shady tactic by the airlines, but I mean, what can you do - besides researching a bit more before you travel? (that is in no way a criticism... I think most everyone go into the same trap, anywhere in the world, of not having researched this one small thing that seems so obvious but apparently isn't)

    Back in the 80s/90s you'd sometimes hear it said on American TV shows: 'Richer than a busload of Japanese tourists'.
    Looks like Norway is Europe's Japan today - everything is half the price of home when they go abroad 😄 Love Norwegian people though. Close to my own Irish mentality.
