My husband and I are selling our home of 40 years. We actually have up-to-date furniture which our agent says should help the house sell well. My husband is working with ideas from 40 years ago and just doesn't believe in staging. He hates that word. I've gone to saying styling. I'm grinding my teeth. Love this man but I feel we will leave money on the table.
@kaystinebrink1220 thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! The homeowner of this house was actually quite reluctant to spend the money on staging. He didn't quite believe in it either. But with a vacant house (or a house that isn't staged), it would be difficult to get top market price. Luckily, my client's wife was able to sway her husband into staging the house. When we had it on the market, so many buyers WANTED this house. And the ultimate buyers loved, loved, loved this house so much they put in extremely favorable terms. There is no way buyers would be fighting over themselves if the house wasn't staged. It just doesn't evoke the same level of emotions. And my client changed his opinion after about staging, he would definitely stage again (when it comes time to sell). Maybe take your husband around to see other homes on the market, and see how he feels about those homes. Whether he would pay more for staged homes or not? Would your husband be open to that? I think you did a great job but the first photos from the original attempt to sell were terrible and didn’t help.

I think people are better off hiring a stager because it is VERY difficult to see you house and decor with an unbiased eye.
