Greetings! Lovers of three-cushion billiards.
On this occasion we present the technique, and the backwards counterspin system, little known, but key to playing this type of carom.
We will see how to use the classic system reference, how to calculate the ball hit, and the stroke technique.
We will start by showing how to use the classical system reference.
The screen shows part of the numbering of the start, attack and arrival cushions, of the well-known classic system.
On this occasion we will use the reference of the classic system to determine the point of arrival in the second cushion, which corresponds, according to the graph shown on the screen, to the attack cushion.
This concept will become clearer later.
The important thing at this moment is that from the classic system we can determine the point of arrival in the second rail, so that our ball makes the path shown in the diagram.
Next we present how to calculate the value of the ball hit, measured in eighths of ball, so that our ball goes to the point of arrival in the second cushion.
The spin is almost always the same, we will use maximum spin below the center of the cue ball, as shown in the on-screen diagram.
The ball hit, in eighths of the ball, is obtained by adding the value of the angle and the value of arrival in the second cushion.
The value of the angle corresponds to the inclination measured in diamonds between balls one and two.
Take into account that the zero value of arrival in the second rail corresponds to the position of ball two, in this case it corresponds to the position of the red ball, as shown in the graph.
In this example we have an angle value of three diamonds, and a second rail arrival value of one. By adding these values, three, and one, we will obtain a total value of four.
So our ball hit will be four eighths, which corresponds to half a ball.
To complete the backward counterspin system, we need to describe the stroke technique.
The three main aspects of stroke technique for the backward counterspin system are:
First: Using an inclined cue, raise the butt of the cue approximately 10 centimeters. If we increase the inclination of the cue, our second rail arrival value will increase!
Second: It is suggested to put forward a grip, the hand that grabs the cue, right hand for most players.
Third: Use semi penetrated stroke, almost a stop stroke, this will favor the generation of maximum rotation.
Now let's look at our first example:
In this case we have an angle value of 3 diamonds, which corresponds to the slope, measured in diamonds, between balls one and two.
The value of arrival in the second cushion is one, take into account the reference of the classic system, which tells us that if we leave the value 25 (first band), and attack at the value 25 (second band), we will be able to turn the corner ( zero value).
By adding the value three of the angle, and the value one of arrival in the second cushion, we obtain the value four; which will correspond to the value of the ball hit.
Thus our ball hit will be four eighths, which is equivalent to half a ball.
Next we have the same position, but now I want to highlight a benefit that this type of play has, and that is the large margin of error that it offers us.
In the previous move we managed to get right into the corner, and we managed to make the carom.
In this play we got almost half a diamond before the corner, and we also managed to score the point!
In the next move we will reach almost two diamonds before the corner, and we will also be able to hit the carom!
This is mainly due to the great rotation that our ball acquires, and although it is not an easy shot, it does give us a fairly wide margin of error, which allows us to take more of the ball than indicated, and still achieve the carom.
