What a wonderful cast of characters! This discussion was absolutely fantastic. I’d like to give Chad the most sincere and heartfelt thank you for doing what you’re doing, and you’re doing it SO right and on point! The combination of Analogue Productions and QRP absolutely produces some of the best records in the world. It’s quite obvious that it comes from another combination of passion and love for music, vinyl, sound quality, HiFi, etc., etc. It was also great to see Michael Ludwigs be a part of this discussion. He’s firstly a top notch and a truly good guy, he knows his stuff, and has a great channel. Also, thanks to the man who never made vinyl feel like it was being pushed aside, Mr. Michael Fremer, another excellent person, Michael Hobson, Gary, and of course, the legendary Bernie Grundman. So many thanks and not enough time, so I’ll stop there... ✌️🎶🤗🎵👏🔊

I don’t see much of a point considering they do already have it regularly as a 45, but I would probably upgrade from my original 4xLP Classic copy if they did happen to make a clarity/UHQR version. Classic Records started taking preorders on a clarity version over a decade ago and they canceled a lot of orders since they only produced very few copies! So I never got that one.

I own #3331 Miles Davis Kind Of Blue UQHR 45- sounds awesome. The Clarity vinyl is of high quality and is pressed for maximum tracking capability and low noise. I have a 1970 CBS copy to compare with and Acoustic Sounds has produced the reference reissue of this jazz classic. Also, I know the plating from Classic Records which Acoustic Sounds acquired is talked about quite often. The Zeppelin Classic Records are $$ glad I have some originals and Greg Calibi mastered, cut Zepp II. As some know, Greg used the notes from Robert Ludwig in the tape boxes and turned out a full range great sounding Zepp II. This was about 4 years after the RL first pressings of Zepp II were recalled. Look for GC in the dead wax. This is as close as you get to what RL did in my opinion, sounds awesome.

A fascinating session. However as I live in the UK the retail prices of US produced audiophile albums bear no relation to the US retail price. Obviously there are shipping and customs duty to take into account, but this UHQR I have on pre order via a UK retailer was initially £140. Now it's £180 and at a dollar equivalent of $253 that's not affordable to anyone on a normal income. Back in the day I was able to purchase Classic Records releases at reasonable prices I don't know what's changed though the idiocy of Brexit may not have helped. Obviously I would expect shipping and customs costs in addition to the US price but I do wish there were some way that you superb records were both more available and more affordable in the UK.

At that time, a vinyl record was cheaper than a CD. then you could buy a vinyl record that was on the top list for maybe for 7-8 $. and I have seen an old video the Swedish man in the music industry explained that the purpose of the CD was to be able to charge more for the music because the vinyl records were too cheap. . now it is on the contrary an album on vinyl costs more than a CD even quite ordinary pop albums. The vast majority of them use digital technology in the studio. so it's no non explosion of analog recording in studios. so now maybe they use the vinyl record instead as a milk cow. A media you can use to increase the profit margin in the company.

a great audio production history. As someone that works in radio....I have to say that vinyl is an inherently flawed, but beautifully tactile, medium ....like audio Campbell's soup....you have to remove the low frequencies to even get the record cutting to happen - (and later add the low end 'water' back in on playout). And the whole 'vinyl sound' is, in reality, the addition of a pink noise filter of 'sssshhhh surface noise' - SSN - the sound of the medium itself added to everything [bit like the soft gauze filters added to film 80s soap opera stars).
Oh....with the by-product of the ability to extract more money out of boomers (before they exit) and from Vinlymillenials who are living in a perpetual rent..... a sort of audio cradle to crave Catch 22....

I have read that what sells best on vinyl in Sweden is hard rock .and a bit of pop. Elvis does not sell well The Beatles sell well. sales of jazz and classical music on vinyl are low. why exactly people who are hard rock fans like the vinyl record I do not know .. maybe it has something to do with the musical instruments used in hard rock?

Question: If Clarity vinyl is the best vinyl to use, shouldn't QRP use Clarity vinyl exclusively? Just asking.

I’d agree with you mate, but the costs involved would mean your regular AP pressings would be significantly more expensive. My AP collection would probably be half as big, if they were all $50 clarity vinyl.

It’s harder to make and costs way more money. So it would hurt the consumers.

@ Dan: I'm just asking this: Wouldn't adding the carbon to the pure vinyl add costs?
I honestly wouldn't have a clue. I'll ask a couple of friends at A/S why (or why not).

I'm not an expert but these would be my guesses as to why clear vinyl would in fact be more expensive to produce:
a.) Quantities of scale - It's a boutique product, the bulk of vinyl being black.
      Smaller quantites = higher cost.
b.) I'd imagine to produce clear vinyl, you're going to have clean the hell out of any machine that was previously producing black/colored biscuits. On a black record it's going to be hard to spot impurities etc. On a clear record there's nowhere to hide. Any dirt, or remnants of the candy pink Taylor swift record that was made previously - you're going to see it. So higher production cost there too.
c.) The black carbon is performing some chemical task, cheaply.
Whatever process / ingredient that has replaced it could be more expensive.

To really make the perfect lacquer plating you need to have it robotically controlled and will be perfect every time.
Has there been much experiment in modern times with different plating chemicals?
What's happening about this guy in Germany making laser cut stampers is the way to go
I just agree with Mr grundman tape won't last forever I thought he would have said vinyl all this new technique of ceramic
Think you can fix the tape from shedding by spraying it with a permanent dry silicone sealant lubricant a very fine silicone this should Fix Any movement decay from happening and make the operation of the tape smoother less flutter somebody should try it out!
When mastering putting on the lacquer they should run it through a subharmonic synthesizer first this is stripped away and not even added in some cases in mastering because you have to EQ it 40 Hz - 24 db, especially when you recording 78 should run it through a subharmonic synthesizer brings back to life the recording old 78 are completely lacking in Lower frequencies.
And that's another practice I think a lot of engineers don't do is magnetising the tracks very important to magnetizing your track through a magnetiser if you're not using tape tape does the same thing
I don't see how you're eliminating the vibrations by putting the hydraulic system in another room or further away actually you could be adding Vibrations by the length of arms
What you need is a steam press
