At Primary school in the 70s, my schools oval was just dirt and gravel and us kids used to play footy matches on that. I got used to going to school with patched up pants and bloody knees with grazes. Mum would have thanked god for the mercurochrome. I played about 25 years of footy but never played competitively on anything like that. Would take some tough boys to do that.
