    Great analogy of Disney taking their hands off the wheel and putting the event on cruise control when it’s not an event that’s ready for that. Your descriptions of the event paint a vivid picture and your ideas to fix it sound spot on. I appreciate that you also mention who the event would be good for. Cheers

    All about community driven events! For us in the Chicagoland area, we have Star Wars Day at Joliet put on by the Joliet Public Library. For a while, it was the largest annual gathering of Star Wars fans outside of a Lucasfilm-sanctioned event, and it is well attended by 501st, Rebel Legion, and Mandalorians from the surrounding states. We wait for it all year and it is special, very much like Life Day on Batuu or Adventureland Day is for Disneylanders.

    Man you nailed it. We went last year on May 4th and it was the worst night of our week long trip. The cast members were obviously stressed along with the guests. The Anakin photo op required a separate ticket just to get in line, the Luke and Leia photo op was weird and we couldn't actually stop, cast members yelling to keep moving. You are 100% right that spreading it thin across the whole park is a mistake, I won't go again unless they drastically change the format.

The only thing I'd love for them to do if they keep it in Tomorrowland would be to add the original Star Tours back into the attraction - Maybe just on a couple of the simulators with good ol' Captain REX!

    I miss the Star Wars weekends at Hollywood studios. They were fantastic! They had all the regular Star Wars characters. Well known ones and even more rarer ones. Also they had actual actors from the Star Wars movies, animation etc. Special shows, fire works. Itdid not have a extra charge to experience everything. It was all included with the regular admission charge.

I had to stay up at 4am to secure a ticket which took 40mins waiting. Honestly I'm not that inspired by "Disney Star Wars" at all so rather its an opportunity to smash afew rides and enjoy the vibes hopefully with less fellow citizens of Disney as you say.

    The best vibe for that event really was created by all the light sabres together, whether for the meetup or in front of the castle for fireworks and projections. I wonder what the drop off in attendance would have to be before they start considering any suggestions to make the event better.

      The fact that no dates have sold out might be a wakeup call, but they also doubled the amount of events this year so maybe they are doing more work to get the same. Either way something will get adjusted for 2025 after this very slow start out of the gate.

    On one hand I agree with the part about people being stressed out abut missing stuff, but that's just because there actually is so much going on. There was a rave in the hub last year so the commentary about it being quiet is confusing to me. The Cantina Band played on top of the Golden Horseshoe last year so that was fun.....Last year when the fireworks started over the castle with the John Williams score, it was truly "a moment" that in itself was almost worth the price of admission, I'll be really bummed, almost angry, if they don't have it this year......All in all, sure, the event could be better, it can always improve and evolve, but this will be my second year and I'm very excited about it.

    • @HeyBrickey
      @HeyBrickey  3 месяца назад +3

      There are some party spots but there's also a lot of dead spots and even more this year with most of the West End being behind construction walls. I feel like a lot of OK offerings is just enough of a distraction to make you feel like you are missing out, but to me it's just a handful of bandaids in a bigger problem.

    • @LeftCoastDrones
      @LeftCoastDrones 3 месяца назад +2

      @@HeyBrickey On the commentary about the calvacade and how "we were the entertainment" I don't really see that as a bad thing. When I go to an event like Burning Man or Labyrinth of Jareth the participant's costumes and creativity are part of the event for me. And for us to have a night where Disneyland is the Star Wars world from the moment we walk through the turnstiles, it makes me feel like I'm experiencing this place for the first time and not the 100th.....I don't disagree that it could be better. Another commenter mentioned having a dedicated photo op space, I think that would be a good idea. I appreciate your dislike of complacency, it's why I've been subscribed for a while now, but I guess since it was my first time last year I didn't really feel the negatives as strongly as you do. I'm hopeful this year will be just as fun as last year, but maybe that first time highI felt will be replaced with sophomore year sadness.

    Love the idea of making the party an "off world only experience". We did the Mickey Christmas party at Walt Disney World, it was great having 'free' cookies and some drinks. If Star Wars night was just in GE with some free food and drink offerings unique character interactions, maybe a lightsaber fight or two-Vader vs Ahsoka or Rey vs Kylo. Disneyland has the costumes to make most of this happen already, just through in some fight choreography.

    I LOVE Star Wars, I LOVES Galaxy's Edge and I LOVE Disneyland, but this event is too much money for something that is not really the best experience. I agree with you, Galaxy's Edge could be more than it is. It's an awesome spot and when I am at Disneyland I go there both in the day and night to experience both hours. I want to see more with Star Wars than they have had so far. What I would love is to actually have an event where the fans are actual people in the Star Wars Galaxy and have some kind of adventure they have to go through both in Galaxy'd Edge and other parts of the park. That would be a lot of fun.

    Are Disney sitting on all the assets from the closed Starcruiser? Having never had the fortune to take that trip, are there costumes or characters that would make sense to bring out for the SW Nites? I think Batuu is in need of feeling more lived in and like a edge of the galaxy (a galaxy’s edge, if you will) and have more “locals”. They really stuck themselves in a corner by committing to the sequel trilogy. I get that you need to have the character moments like Boba Fett and Rey and Chewie but having more citizens wandering around would be awesome

    Bickey, whaaaaattt?!?! My 6 and 8 year olds had the time of their life! Seeing my little guys lift their light sabers in their Jedi outfits was unforgettable 😢. During March of the 1st Order, Captain Phasma pulled them into the show, a super sweet photographer captured some amazing family photos, we got to talk trash to Vader and Maul, and hearing the Star Wars score during fireworks was really, really special.
    Respectfully, this event is perfect for anyone who truly LOVES Star Wars.. junkies who watch every episode, go to conventions, families lucky enough to pass down their obsession, and fans of all ages eager to come together and nerd out .

      Like Brickey, I am thrilled your family had a wonderful experience! However, the fact remains that Disney clearly can do better/more (look at Oogie Boogie) and they are being cheap because they assume SW fans will pay $$ anyway. The saving grace, as you pointed out, is if you ignore the special event and just go ham for one night, just go full Rides > Vibes and enjoy!

    With the closure of the Galactic Star Cruiser... Why not try to continue capitalizing on the props, characters and background that has already been built, and create some sort of "the crew has been stranded and forced to transport to batuu" storyline for the night! Sooo, so much open potential. Sucks that there's never enough going on, and that feeling of FOMO even while at the event... I'd like to think it's just in reboot and next year will be better but wasn't that the mentality last year??

  • @wampaluv

    Hey Brickey! I do appreciate your thoughtful feedback, it makes sense for some folks. Some of your negatives are positives for me and my husband though. My Hubby and I are big star wars fans, However sometimes its hard my husband to enjoy the park. He's a vet and sometimes LARGE groups and long ride wait times make it difficult (at times impossible) for him to enjoy the whole park. we don't care about pictures, getting to walk by to see them is enough, walk arounds of characters, pure magic. the biggest benefits is there not being ton of people, no fireworks ( I love fireworks but he just can't, totally fine if they don't have them this year) BUT the BIGGEST is costumes- we love freedom of cosplay. Getting to be in park without out huge restrictions is AWESOME. so while I get your point, I do understand that some folks expect a party with after hours. star wars fans that are neurodivergent need events like this. I also know he's not alone, our last visit when fireworks went off we were in galaxy's edge and he went into a panic. A cast member (also a vet) noticed and got him to Olga's to hide from the sound. When we got in, there were several vets doing the exact same thing and we all agreed that one, worst place to shoot off fireworks and two a lot vet park goers go to galaxy edge to get away-it's a calm vibe.

    All the points you made are excellent. Disney is not serving and reaping the profits from Star Wars fans. I go to WDW, where it's so much worse. I feel like the types of things they are doing should really be something offered at a certain time of year for a Star Wars Festival/Celebration in early May. I love your idea of more Frequent/Galaxy Edge only parties. I think this should be an add on experience (sort of like a dessert party) that maybe should be offered once a week. I feel like if the no values fest in Pomona didn't go on sale at the same time and day as star wars nite it would've been a debacle

    I saw the advertisement for the party night and I must be cheap because the price was a total turn off for me. $200 by the time you pay for parking? I much prefer Galaxy's Edge at night (I was there all of one time) but I'm not going to pay a premium for it when I can get some night lighting on any given night. Thanks for sharing.

    You make some really great points, but you missed one group of people for whom the Star Wars Nite still makes sense, and that's cosplayers! It's the only time Disney lets adults wear costumes, so for those of us who are big on Star Wars cosplay, it's pretty magical. And the fact that it's not super crowded is a great thing, because we are going to get some incredibly epic photos.

    I was out the moment I read the omission of fireworks. Disney may not like it BUT we guests love OUR fireworks! There's just something so Disney about fireworks. The vibe, the people, the music, the location, everything. Fireworks are a huge PLUS when it comes to forking out around $200 (admission + parking) for a 6 hour "event" (only 3 hours of it are "exclusive" and don't include the "daytime" guests). I stopped going, when the focus stopped being entertainment and started focusing on the food and meet & greets. Too much of a cash grab for me to just look away and bear it. Fireworks were Walt's "Kiss Goodnight" in appreciation for coming to his park. Now we get "credentials" (a lanyard) and permission to dress up and be our own entertainment. No thanks.

    I wanna say I’ve had this long standing idea that each land in Disneyland during Star Wars nite should be themed to a different planet. Adventureland, make it the swamps of Dagobah. Frontierland is Tatooine. New Orleans Square along the water is Naboo. Tomorrowland is Coruscant. Critter Country is Endor (they already do Ewok meet n greets there)
    I also think all the special events are lame and the same every year. The lightsaber academy at Its a small world is boring, and Phasma with 6 stormtroopers doesn’t do much either.
    I also think ride overlays are extremely underrated, and making Hyperspace Mountain available the entire season makes the event less necessary.
    I would love to see them add more ride overlays! Have Yoda appear in “Dagobah” on Jungle Cruise, theme Big Thunder Mountain with Tatooine’s Jawas and Tuskens, etc, or even do what Tokyo It’s A Small World is doing with Marvel but make an It’s a Small Galaxy, featuring dozens of little Star Wars characters.
    Also could theme Tom Sawyer Island to Ach-To! With a night show featured on the Fantasmic stage, show a lightsaber duel with better stage choreography to hide the lightsaber swap (looking at you starcruiser!) There’s COUNTLESS opportunities, Disney please hire me.

    Brickey, why hasn’t Bob Iger hired you as a consultant. I’ve been feed up of the parks gouging people for paying more to get less magic. This will be my last time owning an Annual Pass after 25 years. The last 7 years, the parks have been getting worst in many ways.

    9:24 It might be an unpopular opinion w/many, but I largely agree w/you on Galaxy’s Edge. I’m a huge fan of it, and I’m glad Disney went that route b/c I just know it in my heart that if they built Tatooine or Endor, people would shame Disney for not having an original idea and banking off of existing IP. Doing an entire land based on a completely new idea is, as you said, a blank canvas, and a pretty gutsy move on Disney’s part. There’s so much more than can do w/that land too! So yeah, I’m w/you dude - I love Galaxy’s Edge, and will always be a fan!

    I went last year for the first time. It was cool to experience, but I have 0 desire to go again. The "shows" are a joke and a cop out. It's pathetic. Ngl I got kinda mad when I saw the greets for Maul and Vader and how they executed it. Pathetic, I agree it's not that fun. The regular Saber meets are more fun.

    You can’t solve it without changing the timeline to include Original Trilogy and add back Leia, Luke, Han, C3PO, Darth, and Kenobi. The park is just boring. It’s not Tatooine and worse, it’s not Jakku either. Batuu Black Spires is not developed as anything resembling Star Wars. Sorry, your ideas are missing Jedi mythology that is absolutely the missing element of the land.
