douglasmurray....
Douglas Murray is intellectually honest and even when I disagree with him, I have great respect. I miss a time when ideas were held in higher esteem than ideology.
How Dare You!!!
Max - how dare he speak the truth! 🤪 PS: two great blokes talking to each other. How good does it get?
So, you don't know who the deputy editor of the Spectator is? It's his job to provide a soft-boiled Neo-Con agenda to the toast chomping little England bourgeois. That counts for ideas over ideology now, does it? Even Thatcher would have been appalled. Heigh ho! Still, next to Peterson you could mistake him for an intellectual. Sad.
Ideology is made up of ideas. Enlightenment is an ideology of forcing other ideas/ideologies not to be able to live up to their conviction that causes an impasse and conflict with other groups. There is authoritarianism in enlightenment and you are forced to live by it no matter if you don't believe in it or not. Freedom to live by your value system is real freedom, enlightenment is not.
That’s really what it is, isn’t it? Ideas don’t matter anymore.
I appreciate how tempered, yet passionate Murray is concerning freedom. He has a keen understanding of current ideologies.

I remember watching the tv a while ago, when the first woman bishop was ordained. The interviewer asked her what the most important aspect of her ordination was , and she stated, enthusiastically and welling up with emotion, “having power”. She used that word quite unthinkingly, and it told me all I needed to know about her. No mention of being better able to help and comfort people, just power.
Richard Smith well spotted!
Maya A. Morella . Thank you. ‘Power’ was the word this woman priest used. It told me all I needed to know.
Caroline Storey . Caroline, it was few years ago and I can’t remember, other that it was on teatime tv. I exploded indignantly to a present friend, but we accepted it as a revealing moment in our nation’s metamorphosis. Actually I don’t much care as I’m getting older and I feel more like an observer of our drive towards irascible conceit than a participant. It is perhaps important, but if others didn’t pick up on it that in itself tells me all I need to know. I’m angry at so many of the vanities which clutter the media, but, ultimately, I don’t much care as I’m beyond worrying too much and I’m more concerned about my garden.
Richard Smith i know how you feel. I‘m coming up to (a postponed) retirement and i feel very pessimistic about the world and the future of humanity on the one hand, on the other i realise there is very little i can do to influence it and that makes me feel apathetic. I just get on and do whatever i have to do and hope i‘m dead before the global population hits 9 billion. At least if you‘ve got one good thing in your life that you can take pleasure from doing well and caring for, that’s sometimes enough to ward off despair.
Gelbsucht . Exactly.

@@JohnAndersonMedia DONE, here's to more interesting videos.
It's not religion, it's something more general and more dangerous, it's IDEOLOGY.
Why is that more dangerous ?
Religion IS ideology. And the worst type of ideology is the absolute one. And religion is often an absolutist ideology, like e.g. communism ('materialist utopia'), or with softer outcome, capitalism ('the holy invisible hand of the market'): religion claims to have found the truth, the absolute and final truth, and often will kill for it.
Religions are ideologies too.
Its an ideology that rejects the natural state of the world and instead props up untenable ideals that exist only in movies.
@@JNYC-gb1pp using this description you highlight the fact that religion is a positive phenomenon when not viewed in absolute terms. From movies and other art forms one can gain understanding into the nature of man and/or inspiration into what we are capable of.
Douglas Murray - an independent logical thinker! How many do we have? Jordan Peterson.... Who else? What is chilling in Murray's interview, is that the social warriors aim to wipe out the Christian values that Western democracy is built upon: "Do unto others" etc. We need more deep thinkers!
Heather Macdonald, Roger Scruton, Victor davis Hanson, Thomas sowell, Aayan Hirsi Ali. there's a bunch.
Andrew Doyle
We had Sir Roger Scruton, but alas, he has just recently passed away.
Sam Harris, Joe Rogan, Bill Maher
Slavoj Žižek, for instance. You know, there are free thinkers beyond West Europe and USA.
Mr Murray is the most sensible and intellectual person of our age. I tend to think the same way he does, so I may be biased lol but he also introduces so many lightbulb concepts. Bravo sir 👏👏👏👏👏👏👌👌👌

Douglas Murray is, if not the best, certainly one of the best commentators of our time. He doesn’t pretend to always get it right like so many others do. I have tremendous respect for him. I also really love John Anderson. I am an American and had never heard of him until recently, but from everything I’ve seen he is a thoughtful decent politician which is so rare.
John, I always appreciate the way you seamlessly weave Scripture into your comments....a sign of true faith and commitment to Christ. You have no idea how encouraging your words are to me. Thank you.
Finally, an interviewer who doesn't see himself as the star of the show. I didn't agree with everything that was said, but I learned from this and, well simply enjoyed it!
Douglas Murray stood up for and restored the name of the late great Sir Roger Scruton. He has earned high respect.
I'm not a believer but I respect a lot of the wisdom found in religion.

Nakadu Look at The Bible.
From what I remember of the Chik-Fil-A controversy, "the gays" were protesting donations to groups that were working to stop civil gay marriage, and (in smaller amounts) support conversion therapy. The protests and boycotts were meant to bring attention to those issues. Fanaticism on either side of any issue is never helpful. Hatred is never good.
In America we have freedom to eat where ever we want, even at a middle eastern restuarant, where in the middle east they kill gays for being gay.
But is it really pure hatred and why shouldn't we let it exist?
"...local self-appointed..." zealots ruin it for the rest of us.

That "loving your enemy" dictum may be why Christianity is on the back foot compared to the other two Abrahamic religions. And let's not forget "turn the other cheek".
Quite possibly, but it’s also part of what makes Christianity worthwhile. You could take steps to make Christianity more like Islam. You might see numbers grow but it would stop being Christianity
@@richardparke4105 fuck Islam and the peddo mohamed.
You very succinctly pointed out precisely what I have repeatedly explained is an important reason for the infiltration (and infection) of western nations by people with the most insidous of theistic religious beliefs.
P.S. A secular religion is manifested by the fools devoted to the idea of AGW (anthropogenic global warming).
@@richardparke4105 Personally, I don't care for any kind of religion. (Not even the climate change catastrophising variety, which International mentioned above.) Let alone making one religion more like another.
Perhaps Christians need to do what the religious like to do and cherry pick a different directive. Instead of loving one's enemy then turning the other cheek for another slap, try going for an eye for an eye. Don't shoot the messenger, it's all in the bible.
@@aeimcinternetional Indeed. It seems as though most humans are hardwired for religion. Hence the evangelical nature of climate alarmists.

I have a friend who hates wasting money, and he also hates other people wasting their money. After I came out of hospital in 2015 I stayed at his house to convalescence for a few days, along with his wife & five children. When I felt 100% I suggested that I take him and his family out for a meal as a way of thanking them, but he was horrified at the potential cost of a table for eight, even though I would be paying. Even though he was outnumbered 7 - 1 he stood his ground and we settled on a takeaway which he childishly refused to enjoy. He just kept repeating, mumbling really that he couldn't believe how much money I'd wasted on just one meal.
An excellent discussion.

The protestors didn't say Chick-fil-A "must close", they just protested against them. If people didn't want to buy anything at their restaurant after finding out about Chick-fil-A's stance, that's their right surely?
@george george I don't believe they all wanted it shut. I mean, I'd never eat at one, as I don't agree with their politics, but I wouldn't force others to do the same.

There's no place / requirement for morality in business - companies exist to make a profit. Governments [partly] exist to create laws to ensure companies work in the public interest.
The only obligation companies have is to make a profit. Asset stripping is good for everybody - it makes better use of distressed assets. These are reasons why free market capitalism works so well. If companies are doing 'bad' things governments need to make laws against it.
