I always use a nutdriver on screw type hose clamps when I can. Saves the Knuckles too, when you have to use them.
The dark shirt tip was a game changer for me! Thanks a lot, and happy brewing!
Great tips for a new brewer! Appreciate you sharing
Super helpful stuff. Your series is great for the beginning to intermediate brewers out there. Thank you!
Great video! Always so informative. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've got 3M dry erase tape. I put a strip on the kegs, fermenters and carboys. Then just like you showed here I use a sharpie and rubbing alcohol. Good advice.
I’m 100% with you on the microfiber cloths! Siga should sponsor my home brews lol
Seriously
love this! everyone thinks brewing equipment is shiny stainless steel...but it's mostly cleaning supplies!!
so much cleaningggggg
Microfiber, yes!
Those clamps, yassss!
Starsan - I have some that is a year old, still good!
good stuff!!
Like all bag-less vacuums make sure you have an air compressor to clean it out.
The office at the shop I work at has a dyson vacuum. Office will use it and empty it x2 or x3 times, then they give it to me to clean it.
It takes about 5 minutes with an air compressor and blow nozzle. After it is completely blown out it will work like new.
Wear eye protection and a mask, it's nasty fine powdery dust.
Great idea! I'll have to break out the air compressor
Instead of a t-shirt, I use a king size pillow case. But that's just for bulk aging. T-shirt makes more sense for primary!
yeah Tshirt is great for an airlock hole
Get a Dyson, worth the money. Great tips, Sarah! I never thought I would pick a hobby that was mostly about cleaning and organizing, but Beer!
You know you're an adult/have a cleaning hobby when you're just as excited about a new vacuum as any other equipment.
I gave up on hose clamps completely because they chewed my hoses up. Instead I downsized to 3/8 thick walled silicone tubing squeezed over 1/2 fittings and so far no need for clamps and no leaks.
I use all of these things. :) Except bleach... bleach is terrible. It's super hard to rinse away, and can leave a residue on many materials. PBW FTW
For hose clamps, take a look at Oetiker clamps used for PEX plumbing. They're cheap, come in tons of sizes, and leave a nice professional and manufactured look to the finished product. They also don't snag on things like regular hose clamps. The only down side is they're one-and-done... taking them off destroys trhem.
Great video as always!
Yeah that’s why I don’t like them and you have to cut them off I only used for my kegs and bleach is emergency use only
My Dyson V6 is serving me perfectly after crushing :)
Good luck with the move... nice big new brewing space in new place?
Garage brewery to come!
@@FloraBrewing assume electricity still..I'm on gas in my garage.
Doesn’t matter how long you have been doing it, there’s always something new you can pick up 👍
I feel that I learn something new everyday and of course that means I want new equipment everyday... I'm looking at you, spunding valve!
that's for sure!!
I don't recommend the Dyson for vacuuming malt. I think you're spot on with the Makita or a shop vac of some sort. I've found that my Dyson filter gets clogged easily if the dust is too fine
Thanks for the tips!
which sanitizer are you using?
The dyson vacuum is so easy to use and really handy
Star san
Keep the Makita ... they don't usually ever make junk :)
Nice tips. Definately going to use some of them! Btw, are your hands okay? They look a bit red...
I’ve been installing fish tanks at my job so they’re beat up haha... idk how i got roped into the madness
The viewtainers were invented by an electrician from Illinois to hold wire nuts, he sold the idea to Crown Bolt in Indianapolis that was then bought by Home Depot, so you can find them at Home Depot. The more you know :)
Coming in with the history! I love it! They're really handy
Where did you find those lovely stickers?
Eagle Rock Home Brew Supply but I don't think they're available online so I'm going to release my own soon! Just doing tests to make sure they hold up to rough treatment!
They are called spring clips or spring clamps
I think grip clips are a film industry term lol googling it is impossible
I call those things spring clamps, not sure either? I was watching the basic brewing channel once and James Spencer refered to a podcast where he interviewed the chemest that created bleach, pbw, star san and I can only imagine what else? It was interesting to get some behind the scenes nerdy stuff from the one who created a lot of the things brewers rely on. Your talking about moving, is Jenny traumatized?😉
We're very sad but she's promised to come over all the time! I'm moving 13 mins away so not the end of the world!
Yes they are spring clamps. Used in wood working for light duty clamping
You can also remove permanent marker with dry erase markers.
Haha I love the idea of marking to remove marks
Hey Sarah. You can use isopropyl alcohol as a sanitizer as well. A lot of breweries use them and spray bottles.
smart! It's probably better at killing yeast than starsan too
Are you moving locally or out of the area?
Only 13 minutes away from where I am now :)
"Some Makita brand".
Pretty sure we have every tool makita makes at this point haha
About to move??? But... But... But.... what about "Blind Jenny"?!?
She's already committed to many sleepovers
@@FloraBrewing ...and much YouTubing will be had!
"spring clamp" if anyone is searching for them
Don't buy the Dyson..... 👎. Get the Shark, so much better.... lol
Really?
love my dyson!
Yep, really. I've owned 2 cored and one cordless Dyson. I've just bought a new shark. I wouldn't go back to Dyson.
Anyway, love this channel. Brew weekend coming, New England IPA and trying my new iSpinde with Brewfatherl and my fermenter King Gen 3.
Thanks for your advice you give.
I usually use fingernail polish remover/acetone to remove permanent marker. After a search I found that some fingernail polish remover is actually made from isopropyl alcohol/rubbing alcohol.
Yeah anything with alcohol seems to work, even dry erase markers work!
