Can your guitar related videos start with “guitar” being said in a chip tune voice?
question - whats your view on clowncore? is it possible to get that good a sound in such limited places?
NEW SUNGAZER ALBUM!
@@jonatandjurachkovitch460 yes he said it
I can't wait!
Honestly, Shawn saying he's been playing for more than 20 years makes me feel slightly better about where I'm at with my drumming... makes me feel like I've still got time to get there xD
So, now I guess Adam has to learn drums so you can do that switching instruments gimmick when you can get back to playing live gigs ;)
But Adam is playing BASS.
He can only learn the bass drum then
@@zip753 you lol guy
I recommend to all musicians to learn a second category of instrument
Certainly. I'm mainly a guitarist but I know how to play drums (I also know keyboard). It's easy to tell my drummer bud what to do for whatever situation.
Rad, Shawn! I'm so jealous that you're learning from Markus!
Oh, thank you, Brian! :-)
Yes! I love this! I have been a student of Markus' for half a year now and I'm really excited to see how fast you pick up new information. Especially coming from such a rhythm-focused background you could a very unique perspective on the instrument.
Very psyched for the content. Love Sungazer and can't wait for 2021!
As a guitarist, I'm prepared to be humbled. The drummer 66samus, excellent blast beat metal drummer, don't play the guitar very often, but when he does, damn, he is so good. His drumming skills give him something special when he hits the strings : he can down pick like few guitarist actually can. I'm looking forward to see how your journey will unfold !
Full length sungazer album? That will like, double the discography!
“On my new channel, Learning Touch guitar in a year”
🔥
Shawn: "I'm learning how to play the guitar"
Me, a guitar player: "That doesn't seem very Shawn Crowder-y..."
Shawn: "Specifically, stick guitar."
Me: "Ah! Yes, now that makes more sense".
Chris Potter picked up drumming in his 20s iirc, heaps respect man!
Oh interesting! I had no idea.
wait that’s illegal
Absolutely surreal; Ive just began playing guitar a little over a month ago the day I discovered Markus! All the touch guitar/stick players in the extended KC circle are all amazing! My first drum teacher was a stickist who was in stickmen and taught Tony stick, Michael Bernier! All those cats are fantastic players, hope to get my hands on a touch-style stringed instrument soon! I wish you well on your journey!
Congratulations! As a multi-instrumentalist who started on the drums, it's really exciting to hear your doing this. It's going to be doing beautiful things for your writing. Looking forward to next year's content!
Then I think it's about time I learn the drums. 2021 challenge on
That's a great decision man! I was trained in classical violin for 5 years. Then I picked up guitar and my guitar teacher was so surprised to see that I played mozart in the first month of learning. He said that my prior knowledge and motor skills on classical violin helped me A lot and gave me a great advantage when I picked up guitar. Also when you are already a musician, you are actually great with your own mental space as a musician and already has a well established disciplined practice routines (which beginners lack). This makes the journey much much easier. The reason I picked up guitar is to learn more about chords, harmony and develop over all musicianship + I could sing and play at the same time. I always encourage other people to take up a second instrument. It's totally worth it in the long run! All the best and Cheers mate! 👍
Great goal, good luck with it! Your learning Japanese project was incredible you'll absolutely master the touch guitar with your work ethic.
Jesus man, some time ago you learnt japanese to a high level in only 1 year, and now you're taking touch guitar, and very possibly surpass me in every aspect imaginable even though guitar is my main instrument? Yes, that's Shawn Crowder.
I appreciate this new type of content.
I saw Markus play with stickmen in a tiny stage at Higher Ground with like 30 people all above the age of 50 and then me being probably 15 at the time. My god how worlds collide
Good luck man!
Can't wait for the sungazer full length album!!! I wish you success in learning guitar, Shawn!
Wish you the best, Shawn! 🙏
Good stuff! Enjoy the journey!
wow, didnt know you lived in germany! if you're ever near stuttgart, lets hang out! ;-)
goold luck and lots of fun with the touch guitar!
Excellent News!
Oh man, this sounds really interesting, looking forward to it!
And can't wait for new Sungazer to drop!
I just wanna say Shawn, the production value on your videos are so much better than you would expect from someone with 50k subs. Keep up the great content!
Sidenote, I'm also learning a new instrument in 2021, Bass guitar!
Good luck! Somehow, it's simultaneously harder and easier than you think.
Just be sure to practice everyday.
Very inspiring. I play the drums. I used to play the piano like 6 years ago. I think because of this I'm gonna try re-learn it. Keep up the vids👍
I'm pretty sure you will do very well :) considering how you engage your tasks, yeah. Have fun with it, I'm excited for the update videos =)
We are pretty sure you will make it easily, cause you are already a great musician! Good luck! We will follow up! ;)
also started to learn guitar recently!! i've always played the piano, but there's nothing like picking up your second instrument, hope picking up the guitar goes well :)
i did this in 2020, it wasn't serious, but i messed around with super basic things and used my limited understanding of the instrument to try to create harmonic and melodic ideas. the fact that the instrument works differently from a marimba or a piano roll helped me create some different ideas that i wouldn't have thought of before. it's a great idea even if it doesn't go too far!
Go for it man..
You would be a badass guitarist.. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Respect! 💯
Woo!!! have fun!
Good luck during this new challenge!!
You are one of us now.
Good luck, my dude
can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that this video is "4:20" long?
wild, I was wanting to learn guitar next year too!
You know Markus Reuter ? He's the coolest !!
New Sungazer! Is this news? Very hypeable
dope!
This is gonna lead to some really interesting results.
One of us, one of us!
Yeah man!!
Hell yeah Brotheeeerrr
Wait a second. You live in Germany?
Where?
Awesome. Every serious musician should learn multiple instruments. I'm primarily a guitar player, but learning drums has greatly improved my sense of time.
It'll be interesting to see if your approach to drumming becomes more melodic.
Smart choice to go with a stick-like guitar when you're a drummer. I'm guessing the rhythmic part and the two-hand tapping will come easier to you than for many guitarists picking that kind of instrument. All you have to do then is learn all that pitch stuff and you'll be a legend! It will definitely be interesting.
Evolution is. Good jorb!
I play the bass but I started to learn the guitar during the lockdown, and even though these two instruments are closely related, it's really nice to be able to express musical ideas on different instruments.
I would love to learn drums but I can't at the moment.
New album hype
Drummer learning guitar. Im down for a series!
Wusste gar nicht, dass du Deutsch kannst.
Finde ich super!
YES DUDE
Hey Shawn. May i ask you why you moved to berlin? I live there too :)
Hi Shawn, dann wünsche ich dir viel Freude und Erfolg dabei. ;)
Danke. :)
@@ShawnCrowder i wrote a comment on your last video. With the Modulation. Could you explain the formular a little more please and fill in some numbers?
You did learn german? Respect man!
@1:03 not sure who Marcus is but Dave bunker was the bloke who developed the touch guitar back in 1955
so talented people will just become beginners again just for fun? thats crazy
Better late than never? Definitely do it! Learning another instrument will give you invaluable perspective on what other musicians want from a drummer.
seeing your practice regimens, I cannot imagine this taking you too long to pick up lol. guess we'll see though!
"I'd like to explore pitch" why not build yourself a Terry Bozzio kit ;)
Touch Guitar!!!!!!!!
oh hecc yeah!!!
You should also learn a tuned percussion instrument if you havent, like Marimba or Vibraphone!
There will be a lot of carry over from the drums to the guitar.
Touch guitar -I wished I would have thought of that because I injured my (left)hand for 6 months playing regular guitar after playing drums for an hour or 2 I would play guitar found it damaged my tendons (pulleys and ropes) in ring finger....now it’s one or the other and I’m sticking with drums.the grip and press around a guitar neck not good for me .
Best a luck I will stay tuned Shawn -thanks for your channel!
Tone is key!
This is if we all survive 2020
If would have choose learning bass with Adam if possible
Interesting thought !
nice video length
Starting on an 8strings? damn
4:20 video length, nice
This is awesome! With the sungazer album, do you know around when it’ll come out? Also will you be playing guitar in it?
No release date yet, aiming for spring! And no, I will not be playing guitar on it, haha. Maybe next time. Or the time after that.
@@ShawnCrowder haha, awesome! Love what you’re doing!
Radical. Where do you live in germany?
On a completely different note, thank you for making the video 4:20 long 8)
maybe I should pick up the drums in 2021!
Do it!
Shawn- I gonna learn a guitar
Me - cool, nice to see the drummer perspective on melodic and stuff
Shawn- there also will be some drums content
Me - also cool,
Shawn- and the will be new SUNGAZER music
Me - wait......... WHAT!!???
runs out of my room - GUY'S, THE WILL BE NEW SUNGAZER MUSIC
WOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome! I'm impressed you can speak German too! I'm trying to learn it now, but I'm English and not planning on moving, any tips? Is moving to the the place and being forced to learn the best way to learn?
Immerse at home (Netflix, podcasts, books) and use Anki. Check out Matt vs. Japan on YT. IMO being in the country is not that important in the beginning, esp. in Germany where English level is so high (esp. Berlin) -- no one will want to speak German with you until you're already fluent at quite high level (B2/C1). After that the immersion is amazingly helpful. In other countries people are more willing to speak with a lower level (Fr/It/Es/etc.), but for German it pays to get good before you go!
(edit: this is less the case in other parts of Germany, especially outside the cities, but Berlin can be brutal in this aspect)
@@ShawnCrowder Thanks for the reply! Useful advice 👍
Interesting
Should I learn guitar, bass or piano? I’ll just go for an instrument that combines all three!
Do you play piano already? I tried to play the Stick ages ago and as a guitarist I didn't relate to it. Piano players seem to relate to the Stick more because of they way you use both hands. Enjoy alway good pickup a second, third, or more instruments helps see, hear music independent of an instrument.
A bit. Had to take piano lessons in school. I understand the theory, but can't play much of anything.
1 thing, learn swybryd picking, Marshall Harrison is the master of it
4:20
MAKE HIM DJENT
Oh wait...I thought you were a native German. Your english sounded really good to me but you had youtube in German so I reckoned you must have been living abroad for a long time since I couldn't notice any accent. Lol.
Cool man but, wouldn't the first logical step in that direction be learning to play the 6 string? Maybe I don't know enough to say...🤔 Is "touch guitar" closer to a percussion instrument?
Is Touch Guitar very different than a Chapman Stick?
Yes, it's a different tuning and much more similar to a traditional guitar in sound. Markus explains the differences in the podcast we recorded.
You live in Germany?
are you free for drum lessons?
Why touch guitar instead of regular guitar?
What's the difference between normal guitar and touch guitar? Is touch guitar just tapping?
Tapping is the main technique (but plucking/picking is still possible). Tuning is also different. Markus explains it much better than me in our podcast. :)
@@ShawnCrowder That makes sense, thanks for replying! Would you be interested in learning "normal" guitar at the same time or maybe later?
About damn time you moved to the Lord's instrument, Crowder.
I mean I am worried but at least it’s not a bass
But does it djent?
Lowest string is Bb (below 5-string bass)... so yes?
