    Really love the rhythmic idea of the first two tracks. Playing 5/8 and 7/8 at high BPM and accenting so that it nearly sounds like a 6/8, like it's swinging... Only it's like a glitchy swing. Just sick.

    • @wesleysonic
      @wesleysonic 6 лет назад +73

      To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
      And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

    Sungazer's output seems to pick up where Hassell & Eno's Fourth World Vol. 2 left off,
    and my brain was already having trouble taking that as a form of music.
    If someone can truly appreciate anything like this, that's good for them, I suppose, but I simply can not.
    [I am not voting either up or down.]

    I love the music, but: Everything sounds like 4/4 to me, even after watching Adam Neely's video on it. I feel especially frustrated when I try to count out 5 or 7 beats per measure for the pieces, and I can never do it. Please, can someone refer me to an online resource from which I can learn how to detect 7/8 and 5/8 rhythms? Thank you.

    • @PatrickHogan
      @PatrickHogan  4 года назад +11

      Advaith Harith Honestly, my friend, trying to count to this is like learning calculus without having taken Algebra. It makes sense you would have a lot of trouble starting to learn to count here. What I’d recommend is finding something more straight forward, something rock, something that really emphasizes those downbeats, and moving up to jazzier stuff like this. Try some Zeppelin or Rush or Yes or Queen or any of those bands (or more modern prog bands too, but those are a bit more technical to start) where you could easily tap along. I bet you’ll find some in strange time signatures that you can use to train your brain and then you’ll be able to move up to crazy stuff like this.
      Try Googling “Popular Songs in */* Time” and see what comes up!

    • @featheringivory3579
      @featheringivory3579 4 года назад +3

      @@PatrickHogan Thank you so much. I feel like listening to the more explicitly accented beats time signatures in popular rock songs kind of taught me what kinds of patterns befit a 5/8 or 7/8. Also, I listened to Adam's vid again in addition to ruclips.net/video/bC6gbo3sZ_0/видео.html at 0.5 speed and heard the 5/8 (which I probably wouldn't have been able to identify since it is so fast). I can just about tap my fingers to the kick drum at 0.75 speed. But I'll work on it. Thanks again Patrick Hogan.
