Test environments are just one step up from graybox. You cannot put in high poly textures into a testing realm, as it could do what New World did and fry gpus. It's a blank slate to test code. If you throw everything done into the test you'll never figure out what code is causing a bug
Intrepid should have been more clear on what to expect for the alpha in regards to what was shown in the months prior when they were selling these alpha access packs. The whole "will be presented in a destructive state" should have been mentioned before. The community has been scammed time and time again so when one thing is shown and another thing is delivered, it immediatly triggers alarm bells for many people!
They say every time that the game is in an Alpha state. They even present it as a work in progress, so I am a bit confused where people are getting this idea that they are selling a completed or fully functioning product? You are buying an Alpha, what do you expect?

@@mercifulterros5030 no they are selling a very unfinished game for 250 and then later put them on sell again. Once again you are paying them to test their unfinished product.
What I have a problem with is the language. It was always communicated through the showcases that "this is the current stage of development," which technically it might be, but mislead users. No where was it said that they were "concepts" but rather "finished assesets."
Is not their fault consumers don’t actually understand game development language. “This is the current stage of development,” is not “this is what will be available at alpha 2,” or even “this is the build you all will be playing.”
I haven’t had the time to play to get the gameplay without getting wrecked which is why I didn’t have much in here. But visually the more finished areas look like the trailer terrain wise. The assets are the same, the vibe is pretty much the same. It’s the NPCs and POIs/ place holder nodes that we don’t have. That side looks like, it’s ready for content when intrepid turns it on. It looks further along than how the riverlands had looked when I first started testing in the Pre A2 in the end of July. There is still a ton of work to do, but standing out in the dunes does not do it justice

the problem is that interpid isn't being honest on what to expect in this alpha , i mean behind the scenes they know exactly what they are presenting , if i pay 250 dollars to test your game , i should expect at least some delivery on what you showed me on your monthly streams

I’m confused. Isn’t alpha 2 supposed to last another 6 months or so? Isn’t it a little unfair to judge alpha 2 as a whole when you are still in the early months of the alpha 2 timeline?
Current stage of development does not equal current stage of testing. I feel this is where people keep screwing up. These are, in all likelihood, very very different builds. At least, that's my two cents.
Yeah situations like this just make it clear that developers should never let gamers in on the development process. No matter how much they beg, because no matter how much they claim to understand the disclaimers, they clearly don’t.
The problem is also, that everyone was like "phase one is just stability and server performance 111!!!" and now there is phase 2 is basically the exact same than phase 1 except super small changes
I have to disagree i dont feel like the Riverlands is fleshed out. I dont rhink theres that many NPCs its a lot of barrren space and nothing to do with cookie cutter enemies. The Alpha is not fun. The core design is not fun unless you are hardcore pvp lovers x
It is what it is. What are you complaining about? Are you some investor who had paid millions on the game development to say that they should hurry up and release? They are using their own money on the game, that amount they are pricing for the alpha is to gatekeep the alpha to a small portion of players and by the way it is entirely your responsibility and not forced. That money is not even enough to keep the servers/infrastructure up till release. You have a roadmap that till now didn’t really involved a lot of content but they are still on schedule. Ppl shouldn’t have invested their money if they weren’t ready for testing instead of playing.
@ I do not know how much they’ve mad, but what I know is that AWS is very expensive. You could ask ChatGPT to estimate for you the cost just for the hosting. You will see it’s not cheap at all. The average salary for a developer in California is probably around 200k. There are so many things to consider, and I truly believe they didn’t made any profit from this but instead avoided an investor. I get that some ppl are not happy with the progress, but as I’ve saw so many rushing the content of an alpha, there will always be ppl that are not happy whatever they do. I personally felt I’m very satisfied with what I got so far for the money and see a lot of potential. I would’ve expected ppl not being happy around 2-3 months into the phase 2. But ppl were so impressed in how fast the team has moved during phase 1, that now when they are off for holidays, and don’t get a lot of updates, they start to get disappointed. At least this is how I see it. It all depends how much “mentality “ you get involved. For some it’s just a game, for others is an escape, for others a way to make some money with content.
@GamingDualities Intrepid is close to 200 employees now. If the average salary is 80k a person (which I imagine it might even be more than that looking at the salaries of a lot of jobs they have had posted) they are spending 16 million a year alone on salary. Not to mention cost of running a studio such as utilities and all of that, the cost of benefits for those 200 employees, server costs and all of that. Millions is absolutely nothing for what they are spending

The dessert was only ONE of the game assets that Narc complained about, so even if you refute the dessert claim you still haven't addressed Narc's concerns. And the biggest bone of contention is how Sharif handles criticism. Sharif doesn't say Narc doesn't understand Development or business practices, Sharif doesn't say 'Narc disagrees and disagreement is okay'. I'm not saying the Desert is in terrible shape like the other guy said, but do you honestly think it is as far along as Intrepid claims? All they need to do is "flip a switch" and all their beautifully rendered desert previews could go live in a few weeks exactly like they showed us?

Only thing I got from all this drama is the game is a minimum of 3 years from release. And the current crop of MMORPGs are honestly not worth playing. I sort of like GW2, but it is ultimately a themepark MMORPG. I'm tired of that type of gameplay 😞
The response from the leadership at AoC has been incredibly disappointing. They built up expectations so high and then get upset when people expect what you promised. I still hope the game can be good, but the fact that A2 is now nothing but exploits and mega guilds doesn't bode well. In a tiny amount of time we've seen the number of testers go from thousands to hundreds, and a decent chunk of them are the exploiters and mega-guild hanger-ons. It's rough.

Hi. About 10+ years ago, I lived with a game developer as roommates. Back then, the Creation Tools and Programs available to make Content, Monsters, etc was INSANE!! He was creating and popping out One of a Kind Mobs in Mins!!!! With AoC already going thru developers left and right, changing design concepts about every two years, suggests Steven is just full of shit. What company keeps Asking the public what they want to see in a game? Just make the game and make it fun and interesting. Simple. He seems to be scamming for his Ego, which is HUGE!!!
Narc literally debunked that whole "he only showed edge" narrative. He literally went on stream live to show that what he showed was inbetween the 2 nodes at the bottom of the desert. INBETWEEN 2 NODES (and not in the edge between 2 nodes, literally inside the map).Steven himself was shown flying across the same place narc was. You can view this while narrative (and awhole more) debunked by narc on his stream from yesterday at around 10hour17mins+ mark (whole 1 hour after that is him debunking everything where people called him a liar or disingenous)
I am disappointed with the lack of progress they made compared to the demos they showed off. I never would have bought into the Alpha at the current state of the game and feel duped by Intrepid.
I’m more confused with the fact that the showcase is now two years old. This isn’t high-level or complicated stuff. Someone, or more people, are clearly dropping the ball. This is like 2-3 people max over 6 months to complete this whole biome.
What gets me is your paying to do testing on a very incomplete product. I alpha and beta tested many MMOs including Meridian 59 and DDO at no time was I paying to test the product. If you paid to own that's one thing but you do not even get to own a copy of the product you paid for.

They are lucky to have pirate software there who has a clue about the process. They have people pay money to test their product and act surprised when they turn against them when they feel they been cheated or lied to.

Everyone is rushing end game. Which doesn't exist yet. Crafters are slowly making the best stuff. Narc got high on his farts and got burnt.
This is the difference between player mentality and tester mentality. Players want fun now. Testers realize that something that need to be tested take time. Also, there will be situations where testers will have to test systems in ways they may not like. Such as condensing the server number from six to two between Alpha II Phase I and Alpha II Phase II, to test server stability. While from a community standpoint this caused problems, it did so the servers are a lot more stable than more retail MMO RPGs that were already released on the market.

The multi-thread server architecture alone is worth supporting. It is a game changer. Also, those at the company are clearly listening.

So, the marketing told the devs that the game as it currently stands is not marketable. So, they had some devs create assets to be used as a marketing tool to make people think that this stuff is already fully fleshed out and ready to be tested. Which probably cause more people to pay for the game? But, they are upset because the stuff they showed is not really in the game and it's just a concept that might take a few years to fully flesh out?
In my opinion this doesnt look much better than GW2 , but that is just my opinion , i understand the game isnt finished but so far from what i see not that great
This game is well over 2 years away from being finished, if it ever will be. Way too early to be playing in this state. But they needed money and here we are.
if theres potential to make money off a monetized alpha/beta then theres no incentive to finish the game, thinking ark survival and escape from tarkov monetized betas, expect 10 years of minimum effort and paid expansions
I was about to type "the statement itself of "available in A2" is so fucking vague that it's difficult to call it an outright lie, when A2 will be going on for years and at some point we'll definitely see all the shit we were promised", but then you just had to go and add the perfect preemptive retort-clip for that, with Steven saying "if it's in A2 - it's 60-70% done" and from what I've heard desert is nowhere near even 50% done when compared to what was in the showcase vertical slices. From the start I expected any and all features that "will come in A2" to be nebulous, vague and most likely coming waaay later, so even P1 surprised me quite a bit. But that clip has definitely poked a massive hole in my expectation, exactly because the action goes directly against what Steven stated there. I won't call it a lie, cause obviously shit happens and plans change, but it's definitely just yet another fault in communication from Intrepid. Either update us better on the plans that HAVE changed, or simply don't release the stuff that's changed from the previous promises. Sandal knows, Lex' work lets Intrepid literally go to the wiki, see all of their own promises and go "ok, this shit has changed drastically by this point, so let's see what we wanna do here. Do we tell them the change and release what we have or do we postpone?"

Especially not one that that is building most things from scratch. Thats wild..... Narc has an unhealthy relationship with gaming. He needs a break. We've seen his mindset change over the years. This was never going to be a quick development. Nothing groundbreaking ever is. My suggestion is yall keep the faith and know that Steven has put his money where his mouth is. I personally took a break from testing because it felt like i needed one, I've been around since alpha zero and I think its healthy to take breaks because when you come back you see the massive strides and you dont try to micromanage a triple A studio.
how many months till we get a new biome? multiply that by number of biomes on the roadmap, do the math, now subtract how much time dev time they spend on microtransactions for an alpha test, yikes
not a great or accurate way to do it, because early biomes are always going to take significantly longer than the later biomes. The early biome creation includes creating the tools to build those biomes, working on the back end of things such as nodes/story arcs/sieges and every other system that is going to be interactable in the game. Once those systems are fully functioning, bringing biomes online should be a fairly quick process, that will then just need to be populated with NPCs/quests that already have the back end to them created

Ritchie, thank you for this video. What Narc posted didn't make sense to me. I see several others jumping on the bandwagon he created but lets be real he spent less then a week and he hasn't been on every day like the rest of us. Of course things aren't perfect and their are things that can be better. However many of us still login every day and enjoy this game in its current build. On top of that many of us understand that things will change and our feedback will help change those things. This by far is the best Alpha I have tried in many years. And will continue to logon and give it my full support.

People look at the road map and expect it all day 1 without understanding there are roughly 5 months of updates before its all implemented. The thing is Yes what they show of the Desert was Real when they use the Unreal Engine 4 for the Game & it would of been Alpha 2. Go up 2 Years & Hello Unreal Engine 5 & this is what we got Doesn't mean it's not coming with Alpha 2 Just means it's not here yet. Alpha 2 goes clear up to Beta so long wait.

They are finished assets in a mock up area because that's how it works. They cant just drop in a whole zone of geometry into the live development.

No one thought, alpha 2 will start with just one biome with only half of it covered with quests etc.

I have to disagree i dont feel like the Riverlands is fleshed out. I dont rhink theres that many NPCs its a lot of barrren space and nothing to do with cookie cutter enemies. The Alpha is not fun. The core design is not fun unless you are hardcore pvp lovers x

That money is not even enough to keep the servers/infrastructure up till release. You have a roadmap that till now didn’t really involved a lot of content but they are still on schedule. Ppl shouldn’t have invested their money if they weren’t ready for testing instead of playing.

@ I do not know how much they’ve mad, but what I know is that AWS is very expensive. You could ask ChatGPT to estimate for you the cost just for the hosting. You will see it’s not cheap at all. The average salary for a developer in California is probably around 200k. There are so many things to consider, and I truly believe they didn’t made any profit from this but instead avoided an investor.
I get that some ppl are not happy with the progress, but as I’ve saw so many rushing the content of an alpha, there will always be ppl that are not happy whatever they do.
I personally felt I’m very satisfied with what I got so far for the money and see a lot of potential. I would’ve expected ppl not being happy around 2-3 months into the phase 2. But ppl were so impressed in how fast the team has moved during phase 1, that now when they are off for holidays, and don’t get a lot of updates, they start to get disappointed. At least this is how I see it. It all depends how much “mentality “ you get involved. For some it’s just a game, for others is an escape, for others a way to make some money with content.
@GamingDualities Intrepid is close to 200 employees now. If the average salary is 80k a person (which I imagine it might even be more than that looking at the salaries of a lot of jobs they have had posted) they are spending 16 million a year alone on salary. Not to mention cost of running a studio such as utilities and all of that, the cost of benefits for those 200 employees, server costs and all of that. Millions is absolutely nothing for what they are spending

The dessert was only ONE of the game assets that Narc complained about, so even if you refute the dessert claim you still haven't addressed Narc's concerns. And the biggest bone of contention is how Sharif handles criticism. Sharif doesn't say Narc doesn't understand Development or business practices, Sharif doesn't say 'Narc disagrees and disagreement is okay'. Sharif tries to dismiss and undermine Narc by saying it's a "mental health" issue.

The response from the leadership at AoC has been incredibly disappointing. They built up expectations so high and then get upset when people expect what you promised. I still hope the game can be good, but the fact that A2 is now nothing but exploits and mega guilds doesn't bode well. In a tiny amount of time we've seen the number of testers go from thousands to hundreds, and a decent chunk of them are the exploiters and mega-guild hanger-ons. It's rough.
You paid to be employed by them, you were duped before the login screen boys. You are not paying for a game.

Hi. About 10+ years ago, I lived with a game developer as roommates. Back then, the Creation Tools and Programs available to make Content, Monsters, etc was INSANE!! He was creating and popping out One of a Kind Mobs in Mins!!!! With AoC already going thru developers left and right, changing design concepts about every two years, suggests Steven is just full of shit. What company keeps Asking the public what they want to see in a game? Just make the game and make it fun and interesting. Simple. He seems to be scamming for his Ego, which is HUGE!!!
Narc literally debunked that whole "he only showed edge" narrative. He literally went on stream live to show that what he showed was inbetween the 2 nodes at the bottom of the desert. INBETWEEN 2 NODES (and not in the edge between 2 nodes, literally inside the map).Steven himself was shown flying across the same place narc was. You can view this while narrative (and awhole more) debunked by narc on his stream from yesterday at around 10hour17mins+ mark (whole 1 hour after that is him debunking everything where people called him a liar or disingenous)

I am disappointed with the lack of progress they made compared to the demos they showed off. I never would have bought into the Alpha at the current state of the game and feel duped by Intrepid.
I’m more confused with the fact that the showcase is now two years old. This isn’t high-level or complicated stuff. Someone, or more people, are clearly dropping the ball. This is like 2-3 people max over 6 months to complete this whole biome.

What gets me is your paying to do testing on a very incomplete product. I alpha and beta tested many MMOs including Meridian 59 and DDO at no time was I paying to test the product. If you paid to own that's one thing but you do not even get to own a copy of the product you paid for.

Testers realize that something that need to be tested take time. Also, there will be situations where testers will have to test systems in ways they may not like. Such as condensing the server number from six to two between Alpha II Phase I and Alpha II Phase II, to test server stability. While from a community standpoint this caused problems, it did so the servers are a lot more stable than more retail MMO RPGs that were already released on the market.

if theres potential to make money off a monetized alpha/beta then theres no incentive to finish the game, thinking ark survival and escape from tarkov monetized betas, expect 10 years of minimum effort and paid expansions
I was about to type "the statement itself of "available in A2" is so fucking vague that it's difficult to call it an outright lie, when A2 will be going on for years and at some point we'll definitely see all the shit we were promised", but then you just had to go and add the perfect preemptive retort-clip for that, with Steven saying "if it's in A2 - it's 60-70% done" and from what I've heard desert is nowhere near even 50% done when compared to what was in the showcase vertical slices.
From the start I expected any and all features that "will come in A2" to be nebulous, vague and most likely coming waaay later, so even P1 surprised me quite a bit. But that clip has definitely poked a massive hole in my expectation, exactly because the action goes directly against what Steven stated there. I won't call it a lie, cause obviously shit happens and plans change, but it's definitely just yet another fault in communication from Intrepid. Either update us better on the plans that HAVE changed, or simply don't release the stuff that's changed from the previous promises.
Sandal knows, Lex' work lets Intrepid literally go to the wiki, see all of their own promises and go "ok, this shit has changed drastically by this point, so let's see what we wanna do here. Do we tell them the change and release what we have or do we postpone?"

I personally took a break from testing because it felt like i needed one, I've been around since alpha zero and I think its healthy to take breaks because when you come back you see the massive strides and you dont try to micromanage a triple A studio.
how many months till we get a new biome? multiply that by number of biomes on the roadmap, do the math, now subtract how much time dev time they spend on microtransactions for an alpha test, yikes
not a great or accurate way to do it, because early biomes are always going to take significantly longer than the later biomes. The early biome creation includes creating the tools to build those biomes, working on the back end of things such as nodes/story arcs/sieges and every other system that is going to be interactable in the game. Once those systems are fully functioning, bringing biomes online should be a fairly quick process, that will then just need to be populated with NPCs/quests that already have the back end to them created

I see several others jumping on the bandwagon he created but lets be real he spent less then a week and he hasn't been on every day like the rest of us. Of course things aren't perfect and their are things that can be better. However many of us still login every day and enjoy this game in its current build. On top of that many of us understand that things will change and our feedback will help change those things. This by far is the best Alpha I have tried in many years. And will continue to logon and give it my full support.

People look at the road map and expect it all day 1 without understanding there are roughly 5 months of updates before its all implemented.
