Great job! You’re right, this piece is WAY underrepresented. It’s one of my favorites as well. The motivic development is super noticeable throughout the whole thing, almost to the point of parody. Yet it works so effectively!
I'm not sure how well Debussy knew the work of Franck but it seems like the main theme of the third movement is very much inspired by the typical Franck "wavey" melodies as he uses it in his piano quintett as well.
Great video, do you think of analyzing Ravel's quartet? I find it interesting how Ravel's teacher actually disliked the ending, which left Ravel devastated, but Debussy convinced him not to change it
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! I don't plan on doing any more analysis videos, mostly because I feel pretty unqualified doing so. There are so many people who have studied Debussy and Ravel more than me, and this was supposed to be a one-off thing anyways.
@BossaViolin here’s a lecture on Ravel’s String Quartet by none other than the distinguished Bruce Adolphe! (A somewhat friend of mine.) ruclips.net/video/u0O18ANz9_4/видео.html
Good job milord! It's sad that Debussy is known mostly for Clair de lune (not saying it is bad especially in the context of the whole suite) and not for his more serious works like this or his Prelude, La mer, Nocturnes. This quartet is one of the most influential pieces of modern chamber music.
Debussy is underrated. There are many of his youth works that are underrated, as well as his mature works. Most people just don't understand what he's trying to say.

Great video. I love these types of videos that break down great masterworks. This is also my favourite string quartet of all time.
