I want to thank you both for featuring one of my favorite plants/flowers.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for showing my favourite plant. Great having the list of names below.
Thanks for watching!
Greetings from New Mexico. I love salvias. They are among the easiest plants to grow here in the high desert of Albuquerque. They are hummingbird magnets. I enjoy your videos and look forward to them each week.
We are glad you enjoy the videos! Regards Stephen
Great video. Salvias don’t tend to survive the winter in the UK. So I dig up/take cuttings to overwinter. My favorite is S. Discolor (silvery foliage and black flowers.❤
If only we could have covered more forms! Oh well perhaps another time. Regards Stephen
That's because most garden centers only sell shrub salvias, that often die below -10°C instead of perennial salvias, that can handle -30°C... So focus on stuff like salvia nemerosa, verticillata or pratensis and their cultivars. I'm not a fan of shrub salvias, they grow too big and you need to prune them too often. Plus the wood and small leaves means they look a bit scraggly and messy.
Good day Michelene from Cape Town.lm a novice gardener and love to know information about South African plants and just plants in general as well. Love your show thanks for the information.
Welcome aboard and I hope you enjoy the ride. Regards Stephen
Hi Stephen & Matt I'm finished! & caught up on all ur beautiful videos !
salvias r really hardy & my blue one I've been able to propergate cutting 3 to 4 inches about 6 months ago & placed in a pot usual potting mix , I'll try & track down the hot lips & pink one - her acres r filled with them & a lovely peaceful walk to experience
Thanks for sharing guys
Happy Gardening 👍🌸🐝🦟
Well done you! Regards Stephen
Hi guys. Salvias are one of my favorites for companion planting. Microphylla and Greggii if planted with roses prevent black spot. They actually give off sulphur so saves your spraying. As researched by Sarah Raven in the UK. Loved your video. ❤
Thanks for watching and for sharing the information. Regards Stephen
Thanks a lot, very helpful.
You're welcome! Regards Stephen
Salvias are wonderful. They bloom aboundantly and the wildlife leave them alone. The hummingbirds love them. I place Amistad, Black and Blue and Amante next to each other for the great color contrast.
Sounds like you have a lovely Salvia display! Regards Stephen
Fabulous stuff…as usual. Cheers
Thank you! Regards Stephen
made so many notes! thank you, love my salvias!
You are welcome! Regards Stephen
Just watching now! I have an astoundingly beautiful specimen of Amistad in my shrub border which has been allowed to grow to its full dimensions unmolested. Everything in this border is rapidly growing into a race of giants. To my awe & amazement. 😅 I also have Finngrove in my perennial border in front of Salvia Huntington Red. I love its foliage especially.
Well done you! We are obviously thanking to the converted. Regards Stephen
I noticed one salvia in light pink that matched the color in Steven’s shirt. So well coordinated! Thanks for seeing all these lovely salvias. I do want more for my garden eve though I have 8 or so in different sizes. 😄
Can one ever have enough Salvias! Regards Stephen
Thank you for the video.
I live in the UK and was after a smaller version of Amistad so managed to find one called Rockin’ Deep Purple which is fantastic for a small garden I think they are an American hybrid so rarely seen over in the UK.
Well done. Hopen it does well for you. Regards Stephen
He's behind you!!!. Oh no he isn't! Oh yes he is
Matthew is always trying to out shine me! Regards Stephen
I'm enjoying my Amistad salvia with its glowing purple flowers, but right now I am waging war against the tip wilter insects that are rather too fond of my plant. I do hate an insect that prevents flowers from opening. Cape Town, South Africa.
Sad to here it. WE fortunately don't have this pest to deal with. Regards Stephen
@@thehorti-culturalists you are lucky, but I daresay you have your own variety of competitors.
Love comment re stability
Thanks for watching!
Obviously not MASH fans. Hotlips Houlihan was a formidable nurse on the show. Not meant to be taken seriously.
Loved that program but feel the name was decided on because of the flowers physical characteristics! I now have quite a different vision!! Regards Stephen
