- Travel with the train driver as we travel from Southern Cross to South Dynon Locomotive Centre fuel point in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. We are in an N class locomotive hauling an empty passenger train to be stabled for the day whilst the locomotive is serviced at the fuel point in preparation for the next rostered run. February 2024

Surely they haven't got any of those impossible to understand Indian sheila's on the 2 way!! Mate, top stuff. Something on a full service on one of these beast's would be great to watch if possible. The mind boggle's to the amount of track work there is. I never thought there was such a network.

Having caught the train to Kensington a few thousand times, taking a left just before North Melbourne almost feels illegal. I love it.

I was a shunter in Melbourne yard for some time back in the 80s. We were part of the Traffic branch, but Dynon had their own shunters belonging to the Rolling stock branch. They were a bit of a mystery bunch in my mind, I always imagined they had a cushy job over there!
After dynon reduced to a ghost town, it's now building up with the changes happening there. They have a yard master as well as shunters again. 👍😀

OMG! that was So Close, that the Truck just reversed in time at the Level Crossing, just before N471 sounded the High Note Horn known as the Leslie RS5T Horn, the Truck driver was so lucky and there could've been a serious Accident. 7:40

Very interesting to something operational. Is the engine just refueled or is other checking and maintenance done at at same time? Actual fuel consumption and range is something else I have pondered while hauling a N Set along with frequency of refueling.
Apart from fuelling the loco the diesel maintainers also check oils, coolant, etc. as well as any light repairs required. Glad you enjoyed it 👍 😀

i was a loco assistant loco driver at south dynon loco 1984-1988 before transfer to the sparks everthing on the roster then except the w class diesel hydralulics they were banished to the bush depots two e class electric chairs most of the L class fleet several f classes and all the other classes of locos over 350 train crews general goods roster slow goods and pilots early morning rosters night shift and A and B roster bigwheel plus several other rosters was a hype of activity not much left now how sad
It is sad Rob. Dynon is a skeleton of what it was when we were there years ago. It's now transforming into a passenger depot for the vlocity fleet. 👍😀
i will never forget everthing assioiated with dynon melb yard centre where hundreds of shunters and goods guards were located all those surburban goods trains i ran port melbourne pilot and goods numerous goods trains to the bush depots most of my mates were steam drivers from the day i had a ball there then compusorly transfer to the electric trains which i retired from 2 years ago i havent being to dynon for a long time since leaving there i might just have a look one day if i can bring myself around to it cheere mate

It's fuel tank holds somewhere around 6500 litres of fuel. 👍😀

No. There are a couple more run by the freight companies. Vline also fuels railcars at Southern Cross. 👍😀

It has been there for decades. It is going through a major upgrade at the moment. 👍😀
