I'm a bit worried about the back of the stove being nearer wood. I would likely switch the panel with the aluminum to be directly behind the stove so it reflects heat back into the space. The sides won't get as hot as the back if the draft is correct.
Well, any kind of pressure washer as they get into more of the construction. The "community centre" will be a big deal. I'd prefer electric, but that may not be practicable now. Besides, they are going to want a tractor.
There are several things I would have offered to improve on this "repurposing" but all in all...for what this is...your team has done an excellent job with this project. Your awareness of possible venting and interstitial moisture issues is a huge element that most tend to ignore, and that alone can make architecture like this function better and/or for longer than what most folks get out of them...All in all...WELL DONE!!!
Perhaps a de-humidifier would be a good thing to install in the fridge home to help with possible mold problems? Human habitation does create a lot of humidity, especially in the winter months.
dehumidifiers are really not "green" things. You need constant power to use them. Its a waste of resources. Properly built ventilation and airflow and properly used materials give power free solution that works 24/7 till the end of the building. Thats the better way.
I think you should put a marble slab or granite slab underneath the stove instead of that ugly thin metal thing is which is just gonna end up absorbing and transferring heat onto the floor because thats what metal does
The one at the bottom that you for you use to clean it out with put on put a shut off valve on it. That way you can just open the shut off valve and then close the shut off valve, and then that way you won't have to worry about capping it off, because it'd be harder to take the cap off and fight the water it was spray you in the face. But you need to put a shut off valve on it that way. When you open it, it'll just come right out and you can put hoses on it and let it run where you want to your garden or whatever
Aluminium is a great conductor of heat so the heat will get through to the timber. Stone, slate, concrete or tiling would be a far better insulator. Also, is that the best position for the woodstove? It looks really awkward and too close to the door where people are coming in and out (safety hazard).
The stove in the trailer will need air to burn, there needs to be a vent to allow air in because the doors and windows are so tightly sealed - no gaps! Without ventilation, anyone inside will eventually suffocate: especially if they fall asleep with the stove lit.
You really need to dig away the ground and Earth away from the top of the water tank. It will just flow into the basin and all your work will be for nothing. I would also recommend you line the basin as is done with swimming pools make it more water tight, with proper overflow and drainage points.
Those are good suggestions, but I think they want to see how it goes over winter before starting something. They seem to have several sources of water on the land, which is a big plus. Potable water OTOH may be a different story.
I'm sure they have. The reason they're currently focussing on trailer conversions is that building codes are less strict when building "movable" housing. (Even if the trailers will remain stationary). Any type of permanent structure - traditional home or earthship - will come under way more regulatory scrutiny when being built.
OBSERVATION. ...SPRING....You dont want a spring to dry up but thats not under your control, or, do not block it at its direct source, bc it can change direction or not come back as it can follow a new path when the spring comes back. BLACK MOLD...You guys are going to have to properly ventilate areas with black mold. Set up simple fan(s) and a single solar panel or a solar powered roof vent. You need to have good air flow. Also, i know u dont like chemicals, but once or twice a year i would spray surfaces with 'mold eliminator' products. Spray amd let it sit before you clean then spray and let it sit after you clean but dont wipe it off. If you are in a food prep area, wipe the che3mocal off then do a final clean with diluted bleach and water 10 or 20 to 1. Clean with bleach or find a nontoxic food safe mold killer. Black mold spores can come back quickly, go airborne and can make you very sick and or kill you......but proper air flow is key to fighting mold. Nice vids
Great craftsmanship with the Fridge box. Well done Dave with the tank. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops and also other water catchment work. Another very interesting video. Best Wishes Pete (Manchester, UK)
I will repeat my self, but you guys have no clue, how mold "works" It doesn't matter that you cleaned all mold right now. When you start live in there and breath, then mold will appear under the all siding.....
you really should not put sealant on the bottom of windows. if any water comes in now, it has no way to escape. also, you probably want to have drip edges above all the windows, so water can not get in.
I don't get your comment. You've even time-stamped his whole explanation why they are opting to make it a "just good enough" patch-up job for now. They want to learn if and how water moves into the catchment. Why put in money and effort into a permanent solution, if it turns out that the whole water catchment is ultimately not worth it? Seems like a reasonable approach to me.
The trailer is so cute on the inside! I love the mismatched drawers!
Great video again. Why don't you plant a crop next to the basin that can grow from the water that overflows?
So happy to see materials reused instead of landfilled! You guys are great inspiration. 👍👍
The best part of my Mondays.
Agreed.
Imagine painting a mural on the outside of the fridge box! That'd be beautiful.
MC Escher inspired.
Julien, you are a true craftsman!
The trailer conversions are some of my favorites. I am impressed by the skills PK folks have.
Always impressed with the carpentry and cabinet work.
love the look oft the trailer inside and out, great project!
Love the Christmas Carol guitar music. Great accompaniment!

I'd recommend a semi stiff metal mesh for the cracks on the basin
and some hydraulic cement
fill holes with rocks first before any mortar, old timey methods work.
Inderdaad, je moet de juiste soort cement gebruiken. Deze om kelders af te dichten is ideaal.
I think a electrical pressure washer should be bought ASAP 😄 they are so useful at so many applications
Well, any kind of pressure washer as they get into more of the construction. The "community centre" will be a big deal. I'd prefer electric, but that may not be practicable now. Besides, they are going to want a tractor.

feels like this house represents spirit of the project quite well

I love ALL Project Kamp videos!
The trailer looks amazing, well done everyone who worked on it. Everything you do is tough but it felt like that one had a unique toughness to it :)
Excellent work team! I’m trying to be like YOU!
Probably wouldn't hurt to put a corrugated metal roof on the mold trailer just in case.
Julien knows his craft
Great video do not forget the fire needs ventilation and a carbon monoxide alarm 😊
Always enjoy these. My best to all the Kampers.
Can you use all the mimosa you cut to burn in the wood stove?
They probably are. That is about it is good for. Well, the blossoms have a nice fragrance.
Great video,! I might be wrong, but think you have the T-part of the chimney the wrong way.
I think you should put a marble slab or granite slab underneath the stove instead of that ugly thin metal thing is which is just gonna end up absorbing and transferring heat onto the floor because thats what metal does
i suggest you to ask to the locals about mold. They know the environment and they have generational knowledge about how to deal with it
neglect cover gems, sometimes all you need is a little work.
goed gedaan met die waterbron, youngen!
succes! 🤠😎
Bravo!!! Nice work. Congrats

I’m enjoying watching your videos 🇵🇭
If I remember correctly I think the floor in the old fridge van is where there seemed like it would potentially be some old meat juices and mold.

looks great
😆
Second to last video of the season?! That went by fast. Gonna miss you guys over the winter break
Hi some feedback consider investing in microphone(s) it will make the video sooo much better than you think!
Will you tell us who will move into the trailers and who will stay for winter? Great Job! I will miss your Videos.
3:12 my spoiled german ass thought you were growing weed 😂😂
Hope you’ll make the outside nice too and not leave it ugly like that
aluminium is going to conduct heat very well watch out not getting burned
Yes!!!
Thank you for another inspiring and useful update. Hope the frogs from the fixed water basin were OK and found a new home?🐸
How will you ventilate the fridgebox in winter? also with the stove on risky co2 .
Was just waiting for your video and it came.
Petit commentaire pour le réf !!! et le petit like qui fait plaisir..............

YAYAYAY ANOTHER VIDEO
That outlet pipe needs a long pipe with a filter on the inside else your pipe will keep getting clocked
So funny, in Germany they now forbid the old stoves, old means not that old....good to see where these will end up 😢😂
Amazing! But please put some color on the exterior

All the failed takes bc chainsaw in the background were cute XD
Maybe Sodium Silicate into the cement for more waterprofing...

Great, as allways ! ;-)
ventilation ventilation ventilation
What about getting a humidifier for the fridge trailer house, for preventing mould and that will take the mouner of your back?? The know all person.😅
Good bizzy.
Have you considered "Earthships" for sustaiable housing? it is made out of mainly tires and recycled material and hard to make but it looks worth it.
I'm sure they have. The reason they're currently focussing on trailer conversions is that building codes are less strict when building "movable" housing. (Even if the trailers will remain stationary). Any type of permanent structure - traditional home or earthship - will come under way more regulatory scrutiny when being built.
👍
You gonna have a sauna with a stove that size.
Damn, already last update of the year next week :(
Have you thought about growing Hemp?

Well I am 7th you guys and gals can argue who was first lol
november now. are you stopping for winter
Great work guys, looking sweet to me........................😘☺😘
You guys should totally build a water wheel!
Where should they put it?
For the next video you can say hello! in Spanish for the Spanish-speaking audience? Greetings from Argentina!❤
Why you not use wood gas for cooking
I will repeat my self, but you guys have no clue, how mold "works" It doesn't matter that you cleaned all mold right now. When you start live in there and breath, then mold will appear under the all siding.....
Heating and ventilation with fresh air, ventilation vents preferably diagonally across from one another should do the trick.
I wish they would've at least painted it with Kilz. 😕
As a Scandinavian, I'm horrified by such a laissez faire concern about (black) mold.
And they are planning to live in that thing. Yeeesch.
It seems like they dont care after all the warnings 🤷♂️

Don't just put a cap on the bottom pipe in the water basin. You are going to want a valve in there.
Is Rita gone?
Why do you use pu glue? Is it just to save time or some other reason? Personally, I don't like it, because of its low strength compared to wood glue.

Can’t you just put a bung in the inlet pipe?
May be fibre glass line the reservoir to seal it and make it water tight. Or may someone know a better product?

That’s one ugly trailer
10:40 That don't look good, is be better to rebuild it from start, patching up will not do any good. And you can make it even bigger.

Hi, you are looking for a better fire resistent land. Perhaps you are interested in this video from today: nordwolle.
