My Brother David, thank you for these lessons; I pastor a small rural church in Oklahoma, and I came across your channel while doing research for a series I am teaching on the epistle of James. Your heart comes through in your storytelling. God bless you and your ministry. Rob Lee
I love the maps, photos and historical context. It helps to make the New Testament history feel less mythical. I'm a bit of an amateur historian myself and I try to do the same as a Sunday school teacher - but on a much more humble level than your videos.
Very much enjoyed this video , have subscribed and look forward to watching other of your’s and your father’s. You seem to have so much extra biblical information giving a quite colorful back story to this Gospel writer I knew so little about. I very much appreciate the teaching. Unfortunately this sort of teaching we rarely hear in most conservative denominational traditions in the US it seems. Might I be so bold to inquire from what tradition your teaching comes from? Might one expect to learn this amongst Anglican theologians in the UK. Perhaps you have some sort of a biographical sketch available among your videos. Very, very interesting ! Thank you and blessings to you.
Hi Rob, thanks for your warm comments. I suppose my own roots going back are Baptist, though our church came out of the baptist union and has been an independent/non denominational church for many many years now. Not Anglican and I fear the Anglican Church in the UK is becoming more and more liberal which is disappointing. I find that if you take the scripture at its most straight forward, understanding that it was written for normal people and not scholars you get the most out of it. I enjoy telling the stories in order to try to bring the bible to life and hope that it will encourage just a few to enjoy it for themselves. Gods blessing and mercy to you.
Thank you very much for this. I got it from your brother'ss channel I believe. I've subscribed to you both. I appreciate that you've listed various sources from the church fathers in the videos description. If it wouldn't be too much extra work, page numbers or section headings from the sources would be very helpful, though I suppose reading the works in their entirety would do much for my edification. Either way I look forward to more videos. Please keep up the good work. May God bless you.
Hello Dave, I am doing a research paper on some aspects of John Mark's life. I appreciate your study on Mark very much. Could you share any specific books and/or any other references that you used for this video? I would like to do some in-depth research on John Mark. Thank you in advance! I have quite a bit of questions, but for now, could you please tell me what the source for your above quote (in the description of this video) that, "Born in Africa, John Mark grows from a scared youngster to a champion of the continent. The disciple that gives up wealth and luxury to serve his beloved saviour." Why was he a "scared youngster," and how do we know that he gives up wealth and luxury to serve his beloved saviour?" Or, in what way did he give up his wealth? Is that in the early church fathers' writings, or Josephus, etc.?
God bless you.

Ha ha. He’s my father actually Jesse. But I forgive you. He looks young fit his age. 😂
@@DaveRebbettes I realized this later while watching your channel lol. I thought you might have a good laugh.
Mark was also the first gospel written I'm told.
Oh we liked the images and map of Alexandria. Thanks Dave. Verity
Thank you for this Dave and for the one last Sunday on James. Is this a church one I missed?
Tony Conrad hi Tony, not a church one just an extra one I was going to do for our bible study group. Was going to put an email out this week. D
@@DaveRebbettes Oh right. I seem to have got it direct on a pop up. Thanks.

Thank you. What does Peter, “rock of the church” mean to you?
1 Corinthians 10:4
And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
