What was going on in Colossae
Something was dreadfully wrong with the church in the City of Colossae. If not addressed it would bring ruin. A problem we too face today.

All gods are scams. They were created for the following reasons. For the benefit of the priests For the benefit of the rulers But most of all, for the benefit of the priests One example of this is that over the centuries, the priests have convinced people that you need them. They have you thinking that you really don't have the intelligence to read and comprehend the Bible on your own. And then a lot of you actually give them money for telling you that you're too stupid to live your life without them. And many of you buy straight into it. 🤦‍♂️

So what about the son who gets his share of his inheritance, goes out and starts a software company and makes a billion dollars? Would the father demand his share for seed money? Or should the son hire the dad as a janitor? Or should the son buy a sheep and give to his father as a gift? You know, there are as many scenarios as there are beliefs - who the heck cares?

  • @37south47

Have to disagree about the older brother. The father would not have told him that everything he had was his if the son was lost. Also you said it didn’t mean what everyone thought it did but then you said several times that the prodigal son was lost but then he was found. He strayed but then returned. Seems pretty clear to me what this story is about but maybe I’m confused as to what you are saying…

The Greek city of Thessaloniki never changed its name. It was founded as Thessaloniki (meaning "Victory over the Thessalians") and today is still called Thessaloniki in Greek. All other versions are due to other languages modifying the pronunciation and paraphrasing the name. The way you are pronouncing Thessaloniki, comes from latin (dead language), as if you were calling France, not France but Gallia.

Dear David, your words reach me and have been welcome and helpful, as I navigate my way into Christianity. What you say here about the risk of losing Jesus, and the way all other things pale against his presence in my life, reflect my recent experiences. I find myself saying, "Jesus please stay with me, I don't want to lose you and I won't let go." I struggle to understand how Jesus and God fit together, how they are one and yet at the same time distinctive. But Jesus as our unique intermediary to the world of God, at the same time as Emmanuel, it helps somewhat. I have decided for God and for good, through the wisdom of Jesus as revealed in the gospels. I ask God to bless you for your ministry, and that your work will reach others as it has reached me. Thank you.

Where does it say in the bible that Peter was crucified upside down in Rome? Does it not suggest that Peter was in Babylon preaching the Gospel (1Peter 5:13)? Where in scripture does it say that Peter ever went to Rome at all? Love to hear your answer. I love all your videos, please make more videos. God Bless you

    • @DaveRebbettes

Hi, thanks for your kind words. The bible tells us nothing about Peters death but we do read quite a bit in other writings from the early church fathers in particular from a man called Irenaeus of Lyons, in his work "Against Heresies". Also Clement of Rome in his letter to the Corinthians (1 Clement, written in the first century AD), and Eusebius of Caesarea in his "Ecclesiastical History" also support the idea of Peter's martyrdom in Rome. Eusebius, in particular, provides a more detailed account of Peter's time in Rome and his martyrdom under Emperor Nero. I hope that helps. Dave

Thankyou so much for the answer, yes it is according to history true. Your answer gives me me a clue to much research I intend to do. But for those who love the Lord, 'let God be true though every man a liar' said to Paul and, 'your word is truth. Personally I think if Peter went to Rome was so important it would been in God's Word. I think your videos on the Bible are the best I have ever seen. Maybe it is me being too critical. More videos please. God Bless you

He is right that faith needs to be combined with good works. However, he comes off as pompous and dismissive of other thoughts: but still re-inforces the thought to read the bible with IMAGINATION. In other words make it up like Kammy. Other than that several times he mentioned that James was horny...I don't think so.

Hello Dave, I am doing a research paper on some aspects of John Mark's life. I appreciate your study on Mark very much. Could you share any specific books and/or any other references that you used for this video? I would like to do some in-depth research on John Mark. Thank you in advance! I have quite a bit of questions, but for now, could you please tell me what the source for your above quote (in the description of this video) that, "Born in Africa, John Mark grows from a scared youngster to a champion of the continent. The disciple that gives up wealth and luxury to serve his beloved saviour." Why was he a "scared youngster," and how do we know that he gives up wealth and luxury to serve his beloved saviour?" Or, in what way did he give up his wealth? Is that in the early church fathers' writings, or Josephus, etc.?
