So... I knitted this from the video. While I am not exactly a beginner, I am far from experienced. It went pretty well until the joining at the top. The instructions for this were difficult for me to follow and by the time I finally figured it out I had a horrible seam line, although once I figured it out the seam line disappeared. Also, I found the contrast string and instructions to seam the front ribbed band cumbersome and frankly a waste of time, as following the instructions was difficult and my seams did not line up correctly, so I ended up just removing the contrast string and stitching. FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY think hard before doing the decreases when casting on the stitches for the face ribbed band. I used a bigger needle than she did and followed her instructions and the band is MUCH smaller than the original opening. If I ever do another one I will NOT decrease here. Overall, beautiful pattern and very helpful video! Thanks for sharing!
That's the third time I've gravitated to your tutorials for a project, even before I've recognised you're the same person! You have an unmatched ability to simply explain and show a process that can easily get confusing. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much!! I've been knitting all my life. Started when I was 8 or 9 😄 This kind of thing was new to me and the first time I learned how to make invisible seam. Wow!! I got it down now, I'm so proud of myself!! Thanks again!!! It's warm and so pretty. Even for a beginner.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You explained very clear what to do. The written instructions were also really helpful. However I really struggled with the invisible seam and ended up making the 3 needle bind off method. I used a cotton yarn and the balaclava came out really warm and cozy. I will definetly knit a balaclava with a wool yarn for really cold days. All in all i am super happy with the result. 😄🧶
I wouldn’t say this is just for women.. I made a red and black one for my housemate when he’s in his studio area, changed the face rib to an applied icord (much easier and simpler) and didn’t bother with the tie.. perfect! Thanks for the awesome idea!
Too late for the answer but I did it. My circular needles were too long so I used 5 needles for the neck part. Success! Then I used my round needles though 🤔 It's just easier cause the head part is so long.
@@CrazyHandsKnitting Thank you so much for sharing this pattern. What is the method to putting the icord in? It doesn't seem like there are any dedicated openings for the ends to come out through.
@@cheryllwaldrop9732 right , you do not need special openings, just insert your cord between stitches where you like and then pull inside folded brim. Use safety pin to make in easier.
i don't get the second ribbing part (last one). Why can't i pick up all stitches? And I don't know how to pick them, instructions are kinda unclear to me... I'm a begginer knitter :/
If you pick up all the stiches then it's gonna be too big and wouldn't look nice. You can try and see what's gonna happen 😉 You can always take it apart and start again. I like the trying method when it's too difficult to understand. Sorry I don't know the knitting language too well. Not a native speaker 😄
@Crazy Hands Knitting & Crochet Thank you for responding. As I stated, I'm rather new to knitting so I'm relying on your expertise. It does look perfect by the way! I might also add that I was getting extremely nervous watching you seam the top of the hood. I am still at the stage where I'm terrified of losing stitches.
@@IDontSuckAtLifeakaJanis3975 ha ha no worries. Maybe 3 needles bind off will be easier for you? Otherwise use play speed back button in the right corner to slow video down. Wish you a good luck🤞and easy knitting♥
@CrazyHandsKnitting yea, I checked your written instructions, I understand now! Thank you for the free pattern, its really easy to understand, I'm just not that experienced ☀️
hello, i knitted it in different size needles and I found the only way to get it right was trying it on through out the process... and hoping for the best hahaha but the video is very clear and helpful so you can adjust to your desired measurements
can someone help me please? I am an absolute beginner !!😢 I planning to make this balaclava with a yarn for 9mm. How many stitches do I need to cast on? Is there a way to calculate that?
You can use any medium weight yarn. Just check the gauge. If you want to buy the same yarn, check AliExpress.com and search there for Mink Wool yarn. You can find needles there as well

120-140 grams

Merci beaucoup pour ce beau tuto, bonne journée
Hi, may I know how'd you insert the string? Thanks
just insert your cord between stitches where you like and then pull inside folded brim. Use safety pin to make in easier.
@@CrazyHandsKnitting okey, thank you so much by the way. I love your video and is it easy to follow

That's great and so pretty
Can I knit this on needles? I don't have circular
You need at least DPN at the beginning. After straight will work too

How many stitches do you knit first?

Excellent
Greetings from Guatemala. Could you tell me how many stitches I should cast on for 1 year old girl and 1 10 year old girl. I wait your answer
Depends on your gauge. 60 sts might work
It’s perfect 👍

What if i used 4mm for the project, would the size be far off
Depends on your gauge..but will definitely a little bit smaller. I think it will fit anyway
Serious question from a fairly newbie knitter:
Why do stitches have to be picked up in the knit stitches and why not the selvedge stitches?
You can try. When i tried, the edge was wavy, buckle and with tiny holes. I wanted it look perfect .

How to knitting round neck
Hi all, if you’re not using the wool you recommend then what ply would I use please?
I recommend medium weight but I am not sure about the ply system.
Thank you.
Thank you so much!-
Did I miss the gauge? What is your gauge? I'd like to give this a try, but of course, I'll need a yarn substitute.
Check the written instruction please crazyhands.net/hooded-cowl-knitting-pattern/

what happens if I use the same needle size for the ribbing?
If you don't have, just try to knit tighter .
How many yarn will used
About 125 grams or 2.5 balls
