I have to say...this was the best video for LH users that I've come across. I learned a tonne in 3:41 than trying to figure it out on my own at the range. Thank you.
20 years of manipulating the M-16/M-4 in the Marine Corps and I am a right-handed, left eye dominant shooter. I actually find this platform to be easy for the "left-handed" shooter. I think it's easier to make magazine changes and manipulate the safety. Racking the bolt is pretty much the same regardless. Maybe this is just what I'm used to doing. I've shot right-handed rifles and shotguns (left-handed) all my life and trying to shoot a left-handed version seems strangely awkward for me when it should be easier. Great video and a sense of confirmation that what I have been doing for years, to address such issues, seems to be the best course of action.
I am the EXACT same way. I'm finding that as a leftie it is easier, faster, and smoother to operate right-handed firearms than left-handed firearms. I'm still toying with the idea of a side charger. I'm also looking for videos and info out there regarding our findings here.
3 years later but I'm in the same boat. Big bonus is that as naturally right handed people shooting lefty, our recoil control is naturally better since most recoil control comes from that support hand!
Best lefty video I've found so far. I'm actually right handed, but I was taught archery by eye dominance, and that carried over into non-handgun firearms for me, so, being an avid mil-sim type hobbyist, that gets in the way a lot.
It gets in the way? Shooting since 13 years now. Got an crosseye dominance to the left eye. Shooting Pistole right sided rifle leftsided it gives me only pros til now, can switch shoulder transitions without losing much accuracy and can also working down all manipulation. The only con is the belt management, where to place the dump pouch ;)
This video is a godsend, recently bought my first AR and was considering dropping a bunch more money on ambi conversion tools. I've come to realize that training around the standard equipment is far better in terms of tactical viability
Im Right handed doing every thing BUT shooting Rifles and shooting pool. I have no idea why this is but its been this way since I was a kid. Thanks for posting this.
OMG, i'm the same way. I'm right handed, for the most part, but shoot left handed. I even shoot pool left handed. I think it's because i have to have my right foot forward, even when i shoot a hand gun, i use my right hand because i have to keep my right foot forward.
You're all left eye dominant. I got my oldest son (who is lefthanded like me) a Red Ryder bb gun last Christmas and was surprised when he naturally started shooting it righthanded. He said he just aims better with his right eye. Now I'm looking forward to getting him a bolt action .22!
Thanks for the video. I'm cross eye dominate; dominate right hand but dominate left eye. I can see through my scope easily out of my left eye, but I really have to strain with my right into the scope. So it's nice to know that for a person like me with my visual aliment that running a standard rifle isn't going to be a huge obstacle.
The worst problem I had in the Army, was brass going in my shirt. They had these brass catcher things, but they lead to more jams than they were worth.
Super helpful....Thought using a RH weapon would mean significant handicaps and compromises. You made it look fluid and effective. Sweet!! Gonna practice.....
I set mine up with ambi mag release, but left only safety and left only charging handle. If I fall during the boog, I want some right hander to feel what it's like to be a lefty.
Worst problem I have is that as a lefty, the right eye is more dominant, so when using a rifle for target practice I never know which is a better option, my eyes or my comfort... semi-ambidextrous. So now i'm essentially shooting crosseyed. I've noticed that the paras shoot with both eyes open and I've been trying to practice this method using a pistol but it's not the same with a carbine or rifle. any tips?
1:08 One of the biggest reason why as a left handed shooter, I hate the AR platform. Was a big reason I always hated Table 2 when I was at the range in the Marines. Right handed "coaches" could never understand.
No real way around it unfortunately… Flow-through suppressors are better and gas-buster charging handles help a little. Building a lefty Stag Arms upper has helped the most though.
Have you ever tried running a dump pouch on your right hip? You could just drop the mag you’re removing in that instead of trying to get it slipped back into a mag pouch
Hello Roy. Check out www.deflectorbrake.com Let me know if you think that might work for you. If so, let me know and we'll get a deflector brake kit headed your way.
During my military service I took cover behind a tree and leaned on the tree on the left side and started firing and got the cartidge cases in my face...
Getting my first rifle soon and this video is like a godsend. I was worried about the whole left handed thing but I’m glad to see it almost works better
I haven't been shooting long but I already do all of this! lol very informative for me to know I've been doing the right things. I do however want an ambidextrous safety so I can switch to fire with my thumb and back to safe with my index on the left side
Is that a magpul sling (MS3 Sling GEN 2)? Also, as soon as we're all allowed outside to see each other again Im going to come up there fo some training!
Anyone have problems with hot brass hitting the arm or anything like that? I have a couple ar’s and it’s not MUCH of an issue, but I have this mini Draco that kind of sucks to shoot lefty. The charging handle isn’t like the ar. It sticks out quite a bit and sometimes jabs my forearm. Hot brass ejecting is also something I’m thinking about for both platforms.
I'm right handed but always shot left I just find it more naturally to get it in position on my shoulder & cheek I only shoot shotgun at the moment as I'm in UK so I need my FAC but just wanted know my options for ambidextrous rifles good vid 👍
I do have a question. Is there such thing as a making the rifle eject the brass from the left side of the gun instead of it smacking you in the face? I guess it would depend on the rifle or manufacturer wouldn't it?
I prefer to shoot this way and am right handed with extreme left eye dominance. No problem using my left as a trigger/operator. Is there any danger from brass or gas being that the ejector is on the right said? I see the man has no problem in this video with brass ejecting but is it ever a problem? Thank you
I would come back up on target first, then with your left hand work the charging handle, it’s a little quicker and allows you to get your rifle on target before you get that left hand back down to the grip
I like running a bad lever to put the bolt back home. That, or I will break my firing grip and run the bolt with my left hand. I’ll have to try the roll and charge.
TWINN3DG3CKO 121 I've only fired a bolt action for hunting (lifelong civilian), but what I do is rotate the rifle about 45° counter clockwise with the bore as the axis of rotation, reach over the top with my left hand and work the action. As for how that translates into tactical shooting, ymmv.
I am left eye dominate and left handed. I shoot handguns right handed and rifles left. Anyone else have struggles shooting ARs and getting gasses in your face since your face is closer to the ejection port than a righty? Any tips ?!?! Thank you
chipperwoods Battle Arms Ambi Safety, Sig Ambi Mag Catch, and chopped Magpul Bad Lever (lever part is chopped off so it doesn’t interfere with Ambi Mag Catch). I like the he big button on the bolt catch as my fingers find it easier. Hope this helps.
I need advice. I’m wrong handed and I’m going to suppress my BCM MCMR 11.5” pistol. How much is the gas in the face going to suck? Any tips to help that?
P. Robin I recon it's just to enforce muscle memory. So if you ever have to quickly engage a target you don't have to think if the safety is on or not. You just instinctively sweep it off and fire.
I think constantly monkeying around with the safety is actually much less safe. It adds a whole lot of unnecessarily complexity and therein distracts from actual gun safety. Spend more time focusing on your surroundings, what your trigger finger is doing, and what your aiming at. Turn your safety on when your not actively using the rifle, turn it off and leave it off when you are.
kinghoju this is newbie BS right here. If you have good fundamentals and work with almost any modern firearm they all have the selector in the same place, and it can be instinctively switched on or off in milliseconds. If you get proper training and work hard to develop those skills and USE them instead of BLOWING THEM OFF, you too can get to where it is second nature to make a gun safe the moment you lower it out of the firing position. Just because you are lazy and think "it won't happen to me" doesn't make the fact that a hot weapon is hot weapon any less true. You get caught doing that bullshit in a class and you will catch an ass chewing. Stop being lazy and learn to respect the power of firearms.
Great video! It just seems to me though that with all the technology we have now, lefty shooters should have an easier option with guns that are made predominantly for right handed use. Especially in regard to AR types. Designers should have their designs saved on a computer right? Idk why they can't just take a 3D model and flip it completely so that everything becomes a mirror image that is lefty friendly. Sure safety usually comes dual switch so that not much of an issue. G36 has a nice idea with their ambidextrous rack and reload, contour that is also ambi, yet it still ejects cases on the right side. I guess that's my only gripe really, just having a design that allows both left or right ejection or having a ready design for lefty customers readily available also
BD2DK There are several manufacturers that make very ambi-friendly carbines out there, SIG being one of them. Unfortunately, some police agencies and military unit only get what they’re given and are stuck with ‘righty’ guns. These are just a few methods to help those folks out.
Im lefthanded. Spent 12 years in Canadian infantry. Lots of shooting courses. These drills being shown here…..on emergency reloads i would rack my charging handing from the top with palm down. Its waaaaaay better than this. No canting the weapon. Manipulating the safety id keep my thumb on left side for selecting fire and use the same hand index finger for back on safe. As I go more specialized though i had the techs put an ambi safety and bad lever on my gun. Much better. With the c9 or m249 in US i actually wore soccer shin pads on my right arm. I shot that thing from the standing alot with the shorty barrel and pistol grip. The link and brass would hit my right arm and tear it up. I painted some plastic soccer shin pads and wore them under my combat shirt. It worked amazing. Looked like I had a bionic arm but she saved my arm.
I am right handed but left eye dominant. Have you had any face safety issues with the ejector being on the right side? My manual says to fire from right side on my PCC 9mm even though I can change the charging handle and magazine release from right to left handed.
Dave the magazine release is the only thing I’d consider changing to the left side but I’m still debating and I have a ambi charging handle so that’s no problem
i'm left handed and shot all right handed M4's while in the army, and even my AR-15 doesn't even bother me. Like you said you get used to it. To be honest I don';t even notice the casings coming out anymore.
I am a left handed shooter the first thing I did was put an ambidextrous Charging handle on my AR. I've never had to move the gun from its firing position to do any of the things he is doing. Keep in mind I have only been into the shooting Or guns in general for the past 4 years. I have only had an argument for 2 years so maybe I am doing it wrong.
Just buy left hand at from Black Rain it’s it stag. Spent 10 years in army. I have both stag and black Rain. I will not buy right handed anymore. If the manufacturer won’t make left rifles their loss.
Provided you have one with a brass deflector, the only item I considered a “necessary” change would be an ambidextrous safety. Everything else you can work around with enough practice, though I’ll admit the likes of the Kalashnikov and the M1/M1A/Mini-14 lineup tend to be more lefty friendly IMO.
In general this is good information. But I realized this is useless when it comes to states where pistol grips on an AR is illegal. The workaround I found is to just install as many of the control on your left side. That may cost a bit but it helps assure better grip and retains mechanical function.
LOL clearing the double feed by taking advantage of the MCX charging handle being ambidextrous… considering he just showed how to manipulate the charging handle earlier.
I shoot lefty but I’m right handed. Happen to be left eye dominant. Wonder how many like me

Very silly question but where does the strap across your chest end? I love that configuration but don't know how I would achieve that.
It’s a Single-point sling. It wraps around the body and only attaches at 1 point towards the rear of the firearm. Behind the grip in this case.
Im definitely putting that safty on when speed reloading

Actually the rudest firearm I've encountered for throwing brass in a lefty's face is the humble Ruger 10-.22
It’s one of those things you just kind of get used to after a while.
i'm left handed and shot all right handed M4's while in the army, and even my AR-15 doesn't even bother me.
I know this will sound crazy, but what if you started making left handed models.
Just buy left hand at from Black Rain it’s it stag. Spent 10 years in army. I have both stag and black Rain. I will not buy right handed anymore. If the manufacturer won’t make left rifles their loss.
Funny how life goes, I'm a righty with a dominant left eye.
I am right handed and left eye dominant
As a lefty it almost feels like the ar is a left handed gun anyways. Everything is faster and easier EXCEPT manipulation of the charging handle
Provided you have one with a brass deflector, the only item I considered a “necessary” change would be an ambidextrous safety. Everything else you can work around with enough practice, though I’ll admit the likes of the Kalashnikov and the M1/M1A/Mini-14 lineup tend to be more lefty friendly IMO.
stock?
One of the optional stocks made by Sig for the MCX. It's folding and collapsible.
Word thanks bro
*why is it so hard to find a LEFT HAND TAC RELOAD*
In general this is good information. But I realized this is useless when it comes to states where pistol grips on an AR is illegal. The workaround I found is to just install as many of the control on your left side. That may cost a bit but it helps assure better grip and retains mechanical function.
LOL clearing the double feed by taking advantage of the MCX charging handle being ambidextrous… considering he just showed how to manipulate the charging handle earlier.
0:16 Sound like Ak 47 Counter Strike Version
Holy shit I thought it sounded fake too.
😁👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Left handed people gotta reload like an AK
Dude thankyou!
