The Horse picks up his left lead when striking off into canter.
My solutions to this recurring problem:
I re-established body control and forward motion necessary to get the horse to strike off on the left lead naturally without issue.
I used a counter canter as a tool to get the horse to listen to me instead of anticipating.

17:44 amazing result after such a short time. Once his body was corrected, his mind could understand easily what the question was… no comfusion between your question and his body mind connection. It all just clicked for him 👍 amazing thank you for this clear visual of how it can work so easily if we are clear and they are clear.

So in order to get his left shoulder to reach forward in a left-lead canter, he needs to have the least amount of weight on that “corner.”

This video shows the insane level at which Mr Cappel rides at… At 7:35 Mr Cappel feels the wrong lead before it even happens. Even behind this keyboard I had to replay it 3 times to try and see what he felt. It’s one thing to feel it but then he proceeds to correct it!! Holy cow! The timing and feel it takes to be able to do that is no small ask. Then he is able to talk through the ride and lesson!!! Good lord that’s crazy. I know I don’t have that bandwidth yet, but it is beautiful to see. The results are in the video, a horse between your legs, off your hands, and listening for the next ask.
Also very elegant way of saying the horse is good, it’s the humans that get in the way. Not everything needs a tool or is the horses fault. I appreciate that you defend the horse and make it feel safe/comfortable.
    On to the next one!

@@TheMrSquid so well spoken ! You are getting it !!!! Thank you for taking your valuable time to make this comment !!! I really appreciate it. You are witnessing a life time dedicated to communicating more clearly with each horse as an individual ! Which I might add remains forever a work in progress for me .
      Thank you !

Would you use this same technique for horses that are off the track or is their issue of not wanting to change leads different since they run mostly on the right in the straights? I see this more with quarters running shorter distances

@@lisaweinberger4197 the horse understanding what you want is what makes the difference. Usually slowing the pace down and getting the mind and body soft will allow you to show the horse that yielding to you with out resistance is the best deal for them and they will choose to do the right thing . So my answer to your question is yes I would do the same for any horse .
