Titleist was, is and always will be the undisputed king of understated golf equipment, really even back then with the plain Jane gorgeous DCI irons and unpopular pro trajectory woods or pt. Lots of silver and grey, black letters, maybe a triangle....black. My freind bought one of these howitzer drivers slightly used back then, ha ha we all took turns hitting some of the worst looking shots at the range with it. Operator error of course, lol!
Great club from Titleist, "Big Bertha" was the nickname for the German WW1 Howitzer. But you're correct Titleist was about serious golf equipment for serious golfers, so the Howitzer name is out of character. Thanks for another great offering from the past.
I am pretty sure this came out before their game changing 975D model because honestly I don’t remember it at all. I played the Taylormade Burner when it first came out but the 975D was a gorgeous looking driver when it came out. Some things never change as I’ve got the new Titleist GT driver on the way 😐😐

I need to remember this next time I talk about a Big Bertha
155 howitzer is a very serious cannon, & still used to great affect. Just like that driver!👍
It was weird that it was named after old artillery too. It’s like if they came out with the Titleist Longbow. Or the TaylorMade M1 Garand…
Titleist Dr Stangelove...
Funny name. I found one of these, with the head cover. It worked.
Big Bertha was named after the German WW1 howitzer so I’m sure there are still other military names for golf clubs.
Seeing as we are talking about Titleist Drivers, I’d love to see a video on either the 983E or 905R, both Howitzers themselves.

Looks a lot like my ping zing 2.
What size head would you say this has?
How to talk without saying anything
