"Bro we have less body fat" that's basically their position in a nutshell. They claim to be more "athletic and skilled" we have no way of knowing if they are more skilled its pure conjecture. The 3 point shooting is better these days that's about it. But that's due to a stylistic choice of coaches, one that basically gutted the IQ of the average player as well. Now you have guys passing out for the open 3 rather than take an open layup. Completely psycho.
And so they only really have the "athletic" argument. Are they stronger? Lifting heavier weights? Do we have combine type stats? They're just thinner on average. The average player is more cut. More fit in terms of nutrition and lifestyle. That's about it. They aren't significantly faster and stronger.

Now if you go back through you tube you will find games that don't show anything I said.....The reason is You tube doesn't have every Larry Bird game... You had to be in the 80s.. I first started watching in 85-86. When he was at the peak of his powers... I am from Detroit... Later in his career the Bad Boys did a job on Bird.... Laimbeer, Mahorn were brutal! Dennis Rodman would be all over bird... The regular season games and playoffs for Larry trying to get his shot off at the three was not a pretty picture.... Switching defense, drop coverage, and no hand checking has truly allowed Steph to nowhere COME CLOSE to experiencing the physicality that Bird experienced trying to get his shot off at the three point line or pretty much anywhere on the court... I forgot about their games against the 76ers in the early 80s... I have watched those games on You tube.... Boy were those games INTENSE! Hope you understand my point...

The 3 pt shot is guarded more today but you have to take into account that there is no hand checking anymore. The likes of Curry have less limitations because the NBA is doing everything to make the game more spectacular. The step back wouldn't have been allowed back then for sure

  • @lucasamoriim5126

People are ignoring the whole context of the conversation. JJ was referring to Bird and Steph strictly as shooters, and according to the context, he is not wrong. People in the 80s were not worried about guarding 3s because it was an inefficient shot, even for good shooters (at the time) like Larry. If the offense took a 3, it was good defense. That's not how the game is played today. The 80s obviously had more phisicality, with the illegal defense, hand-checking, hard fouls and whatnot, i don't think JJ is arguing with that

It’s crazy how insecure and defensive old heads are about basketball from the 80s and 90s. JJ was only talking about getting 3 point shots off. It’s undoubtedly way harder for steph to get a 3 point shot off then Larry bird. JJ even admitted it was more physical in the paint mainly because no one guarded the 3 point line back then so there was more people around the basket but old heads again are so insecure and trying to preserve the basketball from that time it’s wild

Which is a bad argument by Reddick. He ignored the fact that Larry averaged only TWO 3pt shots a game in his career while Steph averages NINE 3pt shots a game (so far) in his career. Also to point out that he averages atleast ELEVEN 3pt shot attempts per game since the 3pt shooting era started in 2015/2016.
