I didn’t need this but I was curious about if there was an easier way to what I did. I must say if this is what all of your tutorials are like they’re the best steamdeck tutorials on the platform. UPDATE - 5/7/2024 - A new update was just issued for ZZZ, I am pleased to confirm that the game works with 0 issues. - Launch ZZZ from Gaming Mode and let the client update, then Play Game. - On the login screen, be patient and let it update, once complete go through to the game as normal. ❤
Great tutorial. They seriously need to bring HOYO games to Steam. No reason for Epic Games to get these titles and not Steam. The same for Wuthering Waves.
They have a deal with Epic games and Sony. But also their leadership doesn’t see other storefronts and platforms as worthwhile / a priority since they make the bulk of their money from mobile players.
You should do more videos like this. Show us how to install emulators and other games. This is the best tutorial I have ever watched. Most are super long and will tell you to do a step but then not show you where or what it looks like.
After looking at a dozen install guides, THIS IS THE ONE if you're installing the game on a *LINUX PC*. I'm running Steam on Manjaro Linux and I play Elden Ring, Elden Ring Co-op Mod, Forza Horizon 5, Lords of the Fallen, Monster Hunter, Snowrunner, and a bunch of other games WITHOUT Lutris or any other launcher.
Yes! Managed to get it worked. Even better if you got ZZZ installed on pc you could just copy the file and find the game on the launcher. Esp if you’re tight on free space. I’m copying the zenless game folder into launcher location and putting it into “game” subfolder. It detects automatically when im downloading a patch. Haven’t tinker with the setting,controller hasn’t work (prolly gonna change it from home screen in game to controller) This is a solid tutorial!

Hi, thank you for the video. I followed your instructions and game works. I had an issue where my steamdeck controls weren't recognised. Easy fix; once on the game loading screen you, touch screen gear looking icon to go into settings then go into input and change UI Layout to Controller
For anyone else wondering about this, pressing Start on your controller will change to it and likewise pressing Escape on your keyboard will change to kb+m.

I now link my Steam deck to my main account on my PS5 so I don’t have to start over again. At least, I’m still trying to link my Steam deck to my PS5. It is awesome. It probably will, hoyo has been actively not blocking their games from being installed on Linux (steamos is a different version of linux) About 2 years ago genshin used to not run on Linux because they used to actively block wine and now they actively allow it.
Awesome tutorial! I think Medium settings with an unlimited frame cap is the way to go. Can give above 60 fps and it just feels a lot smoother than high settings. Curious though, I have searched around, but I am wondering if this is possible with Honkai Star Rail?
Unfortunately this method only works with Genshin. Star Rail requires a different method due to the anti cheat, I'll have a guide out for it soon, so please stay tuned!

hello! ive been playing ZZZ on the deck thanks to your guide and it works wonders i noticed that whats installed is actually the HoyoPlay launcher itself would it be possible to use the launcher to install Genshin rather than having to go through the entire process again? i heard that genshin and zzz work fine on steamos and its just HSR's that needs a bit of tweaking because the anticheat isnt supported?
Outside of possibly being more convienient, is there any benefit to installing it on steam os vs a windows dual boot partition? Curious if there's any difference in performance or any other factors that would make one more worthwhile than the other

When the installer is on the SD Card, add to Steam and your Compatdata folder *should* appear on the SD Card. Please let me know if this works or what happens in as much detail as possible, thank you! ❤
I was unable to install the game directly to the SD card as the launcher would say it had -0.00GB of free space, so I had to first install the game to the internal storage and then manually copy the "ZenlessZoneZero Game" folder to the SD card. After that, I opened the launcher, went to Game Settings > Relocate Game and set it to the folder on the SD card.
You can add this on the launch options: STEAM_COMPAT_MOUNTS=%command% This will mount the SD card as a drive (when I tested it, it was mounted as D Drive). From there you can change the directory from the fake C Drive to whatever drive letter the SD card will be assigned to.
@@DeckWizard I actually installed the launcher through epic then do the regular setup in desktop mode, as for drive selection I've chosen E: instead of C: since there is where my sd card was. So far it runs pretty well.
I thought hoyo games generally couldn't be played on steamOS due to the anti cheat not working or something, is this changed with the hoyo launcher? I heard genshin works too now. what I'm getting at is, is there a reason this is safe now compared to before?

When I push the steam button the quick menu doesn't come up for this game? Seems to happen with most non steam games. This issue causes me to have to hold power for a full power down just to start another game
@@rickykarppinen9610 thanks. Apparently the issue was that I launched the game on desktop mode, and this doesn't allow you to open the keyboard on the game. I just launched it on game mode and that fixed it lol.
@@DigitalDevil13th Nobody has been banned from ZZZ on Linux, it's just Day 1 right now so we should pay close attention to see what happens. ZZZ uses the same anti cheat as Genshin just slightly upgraded so it *shouldn't* be a problem. I think this just bricked my steam deck… I downloaded the game and when I went to switch over to game mode it crashed. And now it’s stuck on the steam deck icon.
Did you definitely assign Proton Experimental? Is your SteamOS up to date? Check Settings>System inside of Gaming Mode. Have you restarted to make sure? Hope to hear from you soon
I logged into the game on my Deck this morning and it worked without any issues, but then I put the Deck into sleep mode and picked it back up and the connection timed out. Now every time I launch the game, its telling me that it "failed to obtain server list" and won't let me in now. Anyone else having this issue and know how to fix it? I completely uninstalled the game and removed the launcher and redid the setup from scratch and nothing has worked. I'm gonna be very upset if it just won't work on my Deck now because of something stupid like this.

So I got it installed and I can open up till the login screen but I cannot type my login information. I try pressing Steam button + X and the keyboard does not open up. I thought I had to put it in windowed mode and this brought the keyboard up, but then I can't type in the box. Any suggestions? I also tried this method to install the HoyoPlay launcher instead of just Zenless Zone Zero launcher and it worked, but Zenless Zone Zero opened and Star Rail didn't open.
I was able to input the text by opening the game in gaming mode. Then I could select the textbox and type it in and do the slide to complete puzzle. I was wondering though if you know how to get Star Rail to work on the Steam Deck. I was able to install through installing Hoyoplay Launcher, but it won't open like Zenless does. It just becomes a black screen instead of showing Star Rail login screen. Any suggestions?
Followed the guide up to the point where you actually need to open the game, when i press play it says that its launching but after a few seconds it stops and goes back to the play button, any idea what the issue could be?

I was looking at some reddits i seen something about hoyo banning people for playing hoyo games on steam deck, is that true? Said something about game anti cheat
I got it to pop up now but on select installation path it says z\home\desk\steam instead of programs files\hoyoplay\games and says I don't got space for the game but it I don't got anything installed on my steam deck just got it

Anyone have some good graphic setting? For some reason I have low fps in the city area and loading screens, I have everything on low except Can anyone help?
I can play on high/medium with upgraded deckhd screen so default settings should work well. I get some fps drops in city area but mostly 60 during battle

If I were to guess, it sounds like you launched the launcher and installed the game after using the installation file and skipped changing the shortcut and target at 02:44

Yes and no, yes you could just rename it hoyolauncher and install hsr also but you can't make another non- steam game that points to it. It'll not work since each non steam game has it's own fake windows instances

Medium preset, then shadows on medium and shading quality on medium for close to locked 60fps. Leave res as default.

For Genshin we have to have a separate instance of the HoYo launcher as it installs to a separate prefix folder in compatdata.

When I push the steam button the quick menu doesn't come up for this game? Seems to happen with most non steam games. This issue causes me to have to hold power for a full power down just to start another game

@@rickykarppinen9610 thanks. Apparently the issue was that I launched the game on desktop mode, and this doesn't allow you to open the keyboard on the game. I just launched it on game mode and that fixed it lol.
Install worked fine but no audio from the game itself. All other games and menus work fine, just no audio output from ZZZ. Any solutions?

@@DigitalDevil13th Nobody has been banned from ZZZ on Linux, it's just Day 1 right now so we should pay close attention to see what happens.
ZZZ uses the same anti cheat as Genshin just slightly upgraded so it *shouldn't* be a problem.
Stay tuned to the video and channel as I'll be updating the description and posts with new info when it arises.

@@DeckWizard Still no luck. I'm running it on CachyOS on my desktop. I might just be missing something. Everything works fine up until I try to actually login. Oh well, I'll just keep testing stuff :)
Mine stuck with steam logo on Gaming mode
Use proton 9.0 rather than expiremental to avoid hard freezes and crashes
I think this just bricked my steam deck… I downloaded the game and when I went to switch over to game mode it crashed. And now it’s stuck on the steam deck icon.
Hold the power button down for 6-10 seconds, release, and then press the power button again.
It factory reset my steam deck when I did that
I did all the steps but when I click on play prior to the step of doing the quick installation steam says "running" but it won't actually start 😢
Did you definitely assign Proton Experimental?
Is your SteamOS up to date? Check Settings>System inside of Gaming Mode.
Have you restarted to make sure?

I logged into the game on my Deck this morning and it worked without any issues, but then I put the Deck into sleep mode and picked it back up and the connection timed out. Now every time I launch the game, its telling me that it "failed to obtain server list" and won't let me in now. Anyone else having this issue and know how to fix it? I completely uninstalled the game and removed the launcher and redid the setup from scratch and nothing has worked. I'm gonna be very upset if it just won't work on my Deck now because of something stupid like this.

Apparently it could be due to server overload in your region or an Internet connection issue..

So I got it installed and I can open up till the login screen but I cannot type my login information. I try pressing Steam button + X and the keyboard does not open up. I thought I had to put it in windowed mode and this brought the keyboard up, but then I can't type in the box. Any suggestions? I also tried this method to install the HoyoPlay launcher instead of just Zenless Zone Zero launcher and it worked, but Zenless Zone Zero opened and Star Rail didn't open.
I was able to input the text by opening the game in gaming mode. Then I could select the textbox and type it in and do the slide to complete puzzle. I was wondering though if you know how to get Star Rail to work on the Steam Deck. I was able to install through installing Hoyoplay Launcher, but it won't open like Zenless does. It just becomes a black screen instead of showing Star Rail login screen. Any suggestions?

Make sure Half Rate Shading setting in SteamOS’s performance settings is off. Should be under the refresh rate slider!

Followed the guide up to the point where you actually need to open the game, when i press play it says that its launching but after a few seconds it stops and goes back to the play button, any idea what the issue could be?

There was a new update just, I updated and the game launched fine with no issues.

I got it to pop up now but on select installation path it says z\home\desk\steam instead of programs files\hoyoplay\games and says I don't got space for the game but it I don't got anything installed on my steam deck just got it

If I were to guess, it sounds like you launched the launcher and installed the game after using the installation file and skipped changing the shortcut and target at 02:44

Yes and no, yes you could just rename it hoyolauncher and install hsr also but you can't make another non- steam game that points to it. It'll not work since each non steam game has it's own fake windows instances
