The father at the beginning didn’t sell them out. He risked his life first by hiding them then by initialing lying to protect them but he knew the gig was up. At that point it was either his fam or nothing cause they would have killed everyone in that house. Great video as always.

The dad didn't sell them out. Landa knew they were there and where they were. He wanted to break the French guy's spirit and make him tell him everything. He used the implied threat against the daughters to pressure the father. The dad had no chance to resist from the moment Landa got there.

You are 100% correct. It's even a classic Tarantino shot, where they're looking down at the camera. Absolutely, that is Quentin saying "Look at what I just did! I just told a wild story, in four different languages, with an international cast.....it just might be my masterpiece!" HA! He doesn't say it IS his masterpiece; he says it just might be! LOVE that. One of the best moments of the movie is that last line. Makes up for the lame endings of both Kill Bill movies, lol. (Loved the first half of vol 1 and 2; both went south in the second acts for me!).

Not to compare reactors, (about to compare reactors), but Journey, being so alert and quick, makes this a low stress watch. Meaning she pretty much gets everything so we don't really have to explain what she missed. My one dispute would be her saying the Father "selling out" the Dreyfuss family in the beginning. He did all he could until he and his family's lives were in Jeopardy. Other than that, all around great reaction. Bravo!

Fantastic reaction, as usual. Almost put off watching it because there are so many reactions to this movie, and I've already seen one this week! (another reason why I'm dying for you to do "Jackie Brown" (my fave Tarantino) and "Death Proof"! Not as many reactions for those two yet!) So glad I didn't wait because this was a great reaction! I love what you said about "fighting evil with evil" and the inner conflict you (we) had. The TRUTH of the matter is that this movie - like Django Unchained and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - is historical fantasy, not reality. It's what we wish there was more of back then, rather than the "bad guys" always getting away with it. There was no feared Jewish regiment in WWII any more than there were black bounty hunters in slave-era America, unfortunately. The bad guys almost always get away with it and these movies are a way of trying to make something that's unbearable to even think about and have some kind of "revenge", even if it's just a fantasy. I think Tarantino did a great job walking the line. For instance, if Brad Pitt had shot Max, we would have felt worse for him than by having the German actress shoot him. We don't feel too bad for the German solider in the beginning because he starts insulting the "basterds" by calling them dogs. Little touches like that help keep our sympathies where they should be. My one quibble? I never loved the scene where Landa suddenly wants to end the war, that was a little too far fetched even for this movie. But it gets us to the very last scene, which is the revenge we were all waiting for. It ends with my favorite line from any Tarantino movie - and one of the best in ANY movie: "It just might be masterpiece!" HA! Totally meta!

Landa tells her to wait for the crème because it had lard in it back then, which Jews cannot eat. He watches her eat it and her reaction is “disgusting”. At that point landa knew for sure. That’s why he ends the convo and tosses a cigarette in his own half eaten strudel, he didn’t care about the meal, he’s watching her reaction.

30:55 Sad to say it’s his business as head of the security in the premier. To safeguard high Nazi officials. Not to mention, he’s a Colonel of the SS, a high ranking officer among the most fanatical paramilitary, Hitler’s inner circle. That rank is just 1 level below a General. The SS are like the secret police. The questions he asked were equivalent to not being scammed.
What company do you work for? Where is that? What are the names of your products? Who’s in charge of your establishment? What’s the name of your partners or associates?
I can have someone sent to those places for question to see if it’s true. Like ask the locals if the company exists in their area. Ask around people in those areas if they even heard of it & their products. Ask if the name of some people in their company they’re familiar with. How many years has the company been in business? And yet, why hasn’t anyone including people in high positions never heard or saw it especially if they live there. Check if the building even exists, etc. Asking relevant questions & connecting the dots is his job.
Imagine if I asked a friend of hers where she was & tells me she’s been here the whole time. Saw her last time on this date & place. But she told me that she was on a vacation & said was coming back on this date/month. Therefore, she lied. It’ll be my decision to either take action or try to get her to admit it & tell me the truth for a second chance. If it’s reasonable enough to even allow it.

You have to watch JOJO RABBIT. It's such an amazing film. Very different in it's approach, however it works. Loved it and I think you'd really enjoy it.

Please react to similar films i.e. The Black Book, Schindler's List, The Pianist, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas all are tear jerkers so prepare yourself.

No "Sophie's Choice"? Take the ridiculously overrated, bloated, and completely overreacted to Schindler's List off of that list, and put the completely superior (and as of this writing, non-reacted to) Sophie's Choice, Meryl Streep's greatest and most iconic performance (Kevin Kline too) and fifty times the movie of Spielberg's, if not only for that classic scene that is a reaction video waiting to happen. Schindler's List is not even that great! It's just typical post-Close Encounters Spielberg getting in the way of his own movie with his cringey treacle. It doesn't just have one lame ending, it has TWO completely lame (and frankly shallow) endings. You actually fall for that? It's like a paint by numbers book. I remember sitting in the theater, completely embarrassed and rolling my eyes, thinking "Stevie screws up yet another ending". "The Pianist" is great, do "The Pianist", do "Sophie's Choice", do anything BUT "Schindler's List".

(PS: I'm mostly joking, by the way: she should do whatever she wants to do, whatever she's interested in and if she does Schindler's List - which I'm sure she will - it will be a fantastic reaction, and I'm sure she'll get lots of views for it.)
