THIS is how you sing the National Anthem! Just straightforward and powerful, not doing a lot of crazy, rollercoaster, R&B vocalizations like other singers do. Beautiful voice.
She seems almost like a different person and vocalist here compared to her Super Bowl rendition of the anthem. Different in so many ways, yet still Gaga. Her transformations are so intriguing.
And both are SO DAMN good! She’s incredibly talented.

Lady Gaga's rendition of the National Anthem was part of her speech. With that, the changed lyrics makes sense, in the fact that she intended for it to be a powerful message. Firstly, she was not saying that all Americans are homosexual in the statement "and a home FOR the gay". She was expressing that America is also a home for homosexuals. Secondly, I see no reason for this to be offensive. She was not officially singing the US. national Anthem. She was singing a rendition of it, with changed lyrics to express a strong message of equality. I would find it offensive, however, if she was officially singing the National Anthem, per say at a sporting event or any other event, and changed the lyrics. Her rendition of the US. National Anthem was a continuation of her speech. Simply a reference to a national song that stands to keep the nation united. In her version, the difference in lyrics stands to symbolize that the National Anthem, the soul of America, and the equality of America, apply to homosexuals as well. She did not sing the National Anthem, therefore I see no reason for controversy of that matter. In another view, the controversy is a success. With more controversy, more people will be involved, which means more people will hear it and hear the message, effectively making the statement widely known.

Many say this rendition was better than the Super Bowl, which is not true. The surroundings are completely different, thus the acoustics. Can you imagine standing alone on the wide-open stadium - it's just you and your voice, and the void around you. It's so hard to do, and she did a meticulous job there. Operatic singing was magical (here as well great). To me the Super Bowl Gaga's performance is the best version of the National Anthem. But i love listening to this one, it's so cozy and filled with love and passion.

It's not like you Americans respect your national anthem. During sports games and political events, people are cheering for the singer, shuffling, talking amongst themselves. In most other countries people stand at attention and even sing along. Changing a few words in the name of equality is fine, in my opinion.
***** If you can't put value on the anthem, why the big uproar about gaga changing a few words? if it means a lot more to people 'than I can comprehend' surely it's not being reflected in the way you Americans regard your anthem during national events.
We were just talking about this in band class about we don't respect our national anthem one bit. We just stand there and look up at the flag like robots with no real emotion towards it.
trollininthedeeep exactly. even if that's an ugly truth, it is still the truth, and people here hating on gaga are mostly hypocritical. if they truly want to fight for the value of their national anthem, they can pick on every single major national event, say any NBA game, and look at how even the players shuffle when the song is being sung. gaga altered a few words for the sake of equality and freedom, 2 values the national anthem is supposed to instill in americans. and i think gaga truly respected the sing because she used it, out of all other songs to make a statement about how equality is paramount to the american identity.

Like c'mon, priorities? If people can wear the Flag (altered into fashion) with pride, why can't Lady Gaga sing the Anthem, altered for the gays, with the same amount of pride? Double standards much.

This is truly amazing, the fact that she changed two words in a song that was meant to inspire people and give hope has no negative in it. The anthem is pride inits self so yes, adding more pride is not degrading the song, but showing the world that we are free, brave, and great. Just saying that power is in the tongue so I Say Go Head Gaga and Use your voice to change the words and from those words, life!!!

Lmbo at people saying it's not our (US) national anthem that she was switching up. Talk about ignorance. Yes, it derives from a poem (created in 1814 btw), and it was set to the tune of a British song. BUT, it was sanctioned officially as USA's national anthem in 1931 by congress, and signed in approval by our then president, Herbert Hoover. Fellow Americans, please learn our country's history before spouting ignorant nonsense. With that said, I don't mind that she switched up some of the words because I understand her purpose in doing so.
