She seems almost like a different person and vocalist here compared to her Super Bowl rendition of the anthem. Different in so many ways, yet still Gaga. Her transformations are so intriguing.
THIS is how you sing the National Anthem! Just straightforward and powerful, not doing a lot of crazy, rollercoaster, R&B vocalizations like other singers do. Beautiful voice.
I think America is the only place the people would get butthurt over the changing of two words in a national anthem which is supposed to represent all people? She can come to Canada and sing our anthem anyday with singing like that
Lady Gaga's rendition of the National Anthem was part of her speech. With that, the changed lyrics makes sense, in the fact that she intended for it to be a powerful message. Firstly, she was not saying that all Americans are homosexual in the statement "and a home FOR the gay". She was expressing that America is also a home for homosexuals. Secondly, I see no reason for this to be offensive. She was not officially singing the US. national Anthem. She was singing a rendition of it, with changed lyrics to express a strong message of equality. I would find it offensive, however, if she was officially singing the National Anthem, per say at a sporting event or any other event, and changed the lyrics. Her rendition of the US. National Anthem was a continuation of her speech. Simply a reference to a national song that stands to keep the nation united. In her version, the difference in lyrics stands to symbolize that the National Anthem, the soul of America, and the equality of America, apply to homosexuals as well. She did not sing the National Anthem, therefore I see no reason for controversy of that matter. In another view, the controversy is a success. With more controversy, more people will be involved, which means more people will hear it and hear the message, effectively making the statement widely known.
+Alexander Meeks perfect comment, also as a foreign little monster who wanted to see her that day, I remember that she asked not to be recorded which means that she was clearly not looking for this to spread. She can't really avoid that at this point tho, but she did try.
+lionboy1053 lol same with the Oscars last year. People that know I love her would come to me after that and say 'DAMN SHE CAN SING!' and I was like 'Um yeah that's what I've been telling you for years'.
I kind of feel bad for the people that can't see past her fashion and "weirdness". They're really missing out on a beautiful woman with an amazing voice.
The amount of love she has given us... we will never be able to give that back, but I'll always love her with ALL my heart... and these vocals. wow queen
I think the less intruments Gaga has in the background during the national anthem the better. This is the best one out of the 3 national anthem performances she's ever made
Gaga is a musical genius, (way more than her own tracks btw), an amazing [global] icon, and one of the best performers to-date known to man. ( and she would get it too )
Many say this rendition was better than the Super Bowl, which is not true. The surroundings are completely different, thus the acoustics. Can you imagine standing alone on the wide-open stadium - it's just you and your voice, and the void around you. It's so hard to do, and she did a meticulous job there. Operatic singing was magical (here as well great). To me the Super Bowl Gaga's performance is the best version of the National Anthem. But i love listening to this one, it's so cozy and filled with love and passion.
Lmbo at people saying it's not our (US) national anthem that she was switching up. Talk about ignorance. Yes, it derives from a poem (created in 1814 btw), and it was set to the tune of a British song. BUT, it was sanctioned officially as USA's national anthem in 1931 by congress, and signed in approval by our then president, Herbert Hoover. Fellow Americans, please learn our country's history before spouting ignorant nonsense. With that said, I don't mind that she switched up some of the words because I understand her purpose in doing so.
It's not like you Americans respect your national anthem. During sports games and political events, people are cheering for the singer, shuffling, talking amongst themselves. In most other countries people stand at attention and even sing along. Changing a few words in the name of equality is fine, in my opinion.
***** If you can't put value on the anthem, why the big uproar about gaga changing a few words? if it means a lot more to people 'than I can comprehend' surely it's not being reflected in the way you Americans regard your anthem during national events.
We were just talking about this in band class about we don't respect our national anthem one bit. We just stand there and look up at the flag like robots with no real emotion towards it.
trollininthedeeep exactly. even if that's an ugly truth, it is still the truth, and people here hating on gaga are mostly hypocritical. if they truly want to fight for the value of their national anthem, they can pick on every single major national event, say any NBA game, and look at how even the players shuffle when the song is being sung. gaga altered a few words for the sake of equality and freedom, 2 values the national anthem is supposed to instill in americans. and i think gaga truly respected the sing because she used it, out of all other songs to make a statement about how equality is paramount to the american identity.
I remember when I watched this video back in 2013 and her carrer wasn't that good and I now guys, she will sing this again in front of a million audience. I love you, my queen! Paws up 👏
This is truly amazing, the fact that she changed two words in a song that was meant to inspire people and give hope has no negative in it. The anthem is pride inits self so yes, adding more pride is not degrading the song, but showing the world that we are free, brave, and great. Just saying that power is in the tongue so I Say Go Head Gaga and Use your voice to change the words and from those words, life!!!
Plus, people wear the American flag (or at least, the design of it) as fashion and people think it's acceptable. But when someone changes a few words in the Anthem people go batshit over it. Like c'mon, priorities? If people can wear the Flag (altered into fashion) with pride, why can't Lady Gaga sing the Anthem, altered for the gays, with the same amount of pride? Double standards much. I'm not saying ALL Americans have this sort of stupid reasoning. Just saying SOME Americans should get it together.
This video proved two things: 1. Gaga has a great voice and knows how to use it. 2. People are always gonna ignore it and criticize her no matter what.
I never liked her,i don't like what she represented, but when this girl sang our national anthem,i melted,i say she is a phenomenal singer,i'm a musician,i been high and low in my life, but this girl sang this song with the enthusiasm of a true patriot,i'm now looking at her in a different light and now I'm admitting to the world I was wrong about her,no one can phony such dedication, I hear it and feel ,thx GAGA,NOW KEEP YOUR CLOTHES ON,WE KNOW YOU HAVE A GOOD BODY AND DON'T STOP WAILING ,YOU GO GIRL
she has such a genuine passion for the message she is conveying. You can see it in her eyes when she's singing. she has such a determined look in her eye!!!! she is such an inspiration to the world, to the people who say she is a disgrace to the country for changing the lyrics. you can sit down now. No matter how much you hate it, LGBTQ marriage is legal. just get over it, love is love. We were not living In a free country when we could only marry the opposite sex. Move on and accept that you were wrong. Love you Mother Monster, thanks for changing the world. One sequin at a time.
Let us forget if you don't like gay culture; let us forget that she changed a few words. This is a beautiful composition of the Nation Anthem vocally. Personally, I support her changed lyrics (although I am not gay). It is not a disgrace to the country. You know what is a disgrace? We have already gone against everything our founding fathers, especially George Washington, had created for us. Lady GaGa changing the lyrics should be the least of our concerns, but it is always easier to attack others than to realize we ourselves are the problem. As a musician and vocalist, I love this piece. As an American, I love this piece. As a straight woman, I love this piece. Patriotism isn't cut and dry, and neither is "treason."
I mean... you must have a really sad life or most likely none at all before you go through videos just to check if you disliked it or not...just saying:)
I was all happy watching these and then i have the saddest idea, to scroll down and read the comments. For christ sakes, every single video of Lady Gaga is the same thing, variations on a sad key till exhaustion. The comments, everytime, are centered in a negative aspect and hardly they get out of that cycle. Just for starters, is she doing something very wrong? She's there, i suppose genuinely happy to be a part of the whole thing. She spares a little of her free time and goes there with a good energy, does her best in singing the anthem. Full of Gaga manneirisms, as well But changing the lyrics a bit, the national anthem isn't something out of a museum, unchanging. Things have live, no one's gonna die for it, no dead president will come and haunt the world. There wasn't anything disrespectul about it, unecessary, maybe!? But Gaga does it all the time, and in the end, even if it inst only another song, well it is. It's a symbol of the great nation that USA is, even some other people feel patriotic towards America listening to the anthem and feeling how proud they are in being part of that nation and dream. Her voice is one of the best in this world
You are the best singer
Period
Very few pop singers have such good vibrato. She almost sounds classical at times. Can't wait to hear her sing this at the super bowl.
she's a classically trained musician 😊
She is classically trained darling.
her vocal abilities became better now. you can expect her leaving people with their open jaws. she's perfection.
Jake NZRSK She still won't top Renee Fleming's rendition of the national anthem though. Gaga's an alto so she can't hit the high note of "free"
+Ihdc1 hitting high notes doesn't always make a good performance. So swerve.
This style (hair and makeup) suits her very well :)
It's ugly

And both are SO DAMN good! She’s incredibly talented.
Sounds the same to me just in a different style
THIS is how you sing the National Anthem! Just straightforward and powerful, not doing a lot of crazy, rollercoaster, R&B vocalizations like other singers do. Beautiful voice.
SHE'S GONNA MAKE THIS AGAIN IN THE SUPERBOWL OKAY

I get chills everytime i listen to this. She has an amazing energy. Thank you Gaga for all you have done for the LGBT community

And not any sport event !!

Someone died at 1:37
