- In May 2010, Russian Marines from the Naval Infantry and serving onboard the Marshal Shaposhnikov destroyer were ordered to retake the MV Moscow University which had been seized by pirates 20 hours before. This is the story of that operation.
В мае 2010 года российским морским пехотинцам из военно-морской пехоты и служащему на борту маршалу Шапошникову было приказано вернуть Московский университет им. М.В., который был захвачен пиратами за 20 часов до этого. Это история этой операции.

In a simpler way you can read it as "There's no law telling us we had to arrest them"

Disappeared on the radar, never to be seen again? That's a good one. That's what I call suitable justice for pirates. A bunch of missing persons that won't be missed by anybody.
Their families will surely miss them. Just because they are a dirt poor bastards doesn't mean there won't be anyone missing them back home!
most of them are ex-fishermen just trying to support their families, their wives will miss them and their children will grow up without fathers
Regardless of one's circumstances you have no right or allowances to commit criminal behavior. Other innocent persons are negatively affected by piracy. There have been victims of this criminal priracy, some have been killed. So where is your sympathy for those victims?
If there is a claim of lack of fishing due to corporate fishing vessels depleting fish stock in these waters. Has anyone conducted any research as to current fish populations? I doubt it. The lucrative nature of piracy is immense compared to the back breaking labor of subsistence fishing. One capture of a ship brings in millions of dollars of ransom. These pirates had a choice. They chose a criminal lifestyle and the results were death. So cry me a river. I have no sympathy for these individuals.
Fuck'em.

Good sheep. Sleep now. Sleep.
I can just imagine the untold end of this story reads something like this: The Marshal Shaposhnikov Captain ordered all pirates, EXCEPT ONE, aboard a captured pirate skiff with a large explosive charge hidden & sent them on their way. The lone surviving pirate was made to initiate the remote detonator & watch his own friends turn into shark chum. The hapless Somali was then flown to a secluded Somalian beach & pushed out at 15m AG, just enough to break both his legs but live to tell.
It does not have to be a large bomb. You have seen the magnetic time bombs in old James Bond movies. One can create a big hole in their old skiff. But they could have send care packages with letter of condolences to the families of the pirates in Somalia.
@@roys8870 Hah! I like the way you think! Care packages! Would like to send a few to scam call centers in India.

Accroding to several accounts when they made the movie 22 minutes (Russian film about this attack) the skipper of the Russian Destroyer Oleg Kistanov put all the crew in the skiff (which had removed of navigating aid and weapon at that point) and did not give the compass and other navigation aid back to the pirate when they were put back into the skiff, which the pirate was left to drift and well, eventually assumed they died at sea

That’s by far the best way to deal with chronic piracy. Rather than televising anti-piracy raids and arrests that then result in asylum claims and welfare for the rest of the clan brought in as immigrants to Europe, just sink the pirate vessels with their crews. Once piracy becomes a one-way trip to oblivion rather than wealth, it’ll soon become unattractive, and if the other pirates never know what happened to their colleagues, they won’t retaliate against the hostages they already hold.

Decades of abuse in a third-world marine environment
A real testament to the ruggedness of the AK that those fired at all.
Include the steel cased ammo to the rusted AK's. Although the cartridges are coated with laquer to stop rust. Once the metal cartridge box is opened you cannot reseal the box. It like opening a can of food. Once opened it's open forever. The salt water will corrode and oxidize the steel cartridges. The 7.62x39 AK cartridge has a tapered side, to add to the difficulty of being able to seat the cartridge into the chamber of the rifle with the salt water corrosion. It's surprising that the pirates could even shoot the AK's.

"Mysteriously disappeared off the radar screen"....yup....with that many pirates on it, the added weight of the100mm shell was just too much!!! LOL!!!
"Since it's recapture, no other Russian vessel has been attacked or hijacked off the coast of Somalia" damn I think I know what happened to the small boat which was never seen again.
600 miles with one tank of gas, Captain Bleigh would have been hard pressed to make that. I'm guessing they launched the chopper after the "official communications" ended.
I love the russian way of dealing with problems
Iv watched this a few times by now... yet that ending NEVER gets dull. Haha. That's the way to do it . The Citizens of Russia shouldn't have to be the ones on the hook paying taxes for all of the court costs, imprisoning cost, food and so on that would come as a result of bringing the pirates back to Russia for justice. Court took place on the open seas that day my friends.
"We put them back on their boat and released them"
And then they where promptly blown up by the cruizer
Pirates: I am da captain now!
Russian Marines: Nyet. (Gunshot and hardbass noises.)
Last communication heard was “ready or not here we come”
I think they killed the pirates
I think every other merchant marine should rename its ships with a Russian name: Spirit of Kiev; Leningrad views ....
Duhhhhh
@@buonafortuna8928 the Maersk "spirit of stalin"
@@buonafortuna8928 Kiev is not russian lol
Catch up son, one thing about this lot is they don't mess about, good on them as well it works
4:31 lol one of the marines were wearing Adidas shoes, truly brings out the russian in him
I don't like the Russians, but I do admire their willingness to uphold international law and letting the pirates "go"
Looks like this University taught those somalis an important lesson
" they disappeared from radar and were never seen again"
Russians: Da, Pro gamer move.
Well... they appeared on sonar. For a brief while.
Russian Marine : - sir we cant just let them go they would do this again
Officer : - you are a kiddo my boy, once we pretend to let them go then we could legally test out our 100mm on them
I've always wanted Russia and Britain to have a better relationship. Imagine SAS and Spetsnaz working together
Henry VIII The Original Thot Slayer yeah when they're a democracy respecting human rights and the rule of law. That includes not using weapons of mass destruction on our soil.

Russian: so we're just gonna let the pirate boat go
Captain: what boat?
"Attention oil tanker from america! We are here to board you! surrender!
-Fools, Activate the pirate defenses!
*entire crew starts shouting russian slurs against the pirates
