In this video I discuss the basics of the financial aid process and what are the most important dates to look out for from the Fafsa and CSS Dates to Loan dates and Scholarship dates as well. Financial aid especially gift aid is free aid. We also answer all the weeks questions left by familles here on the channel about the college admissions and the college financial aid process.
Gift aid is money that's offered to qualifying students that doesn't have to be paid back. Think of it as free money. This catch-all term usually refers to grants and scholarships Gift Aid Grants are, in general, more awarded more often on the basis of need rather than merit. Like the Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants that help students to college through their funds. There is also self-help aid which are loans like the federal direct loans. Self-help aid includes work opportunities and loans, and is called self-help because the individual takes responsibility for receiving this type of aid. All types of financial aid can help you pay for college, though they all work in different ways. Scholarships and grants typically do not need to be paid back.

Hi Ed, what happens if student sub loan is taken and outside scholarships come in during the semester that makes loans unnecessary. Can scholarship money pay off the loan or can the loan be removed or decreased?
Second question, if my student decides to transfer for Sophomore year is it a possibility to get merit scholarships?
