@seamasmanly You can set the tempo before you start the recording by either pressing the tap tempo button, or using the right pedal to tap in your tempo.
A little additional info: You can't change the time signature if you have recording already stored on the present program. It must be empty. That's why it seemed to not work for me until I figured it out. Thanks.
Yes, the RC-20XL had a more complex method of setting the time-sig that allowed any variation of /4 - so you could set a 1/4, or 5/4 or anything x/4. It's not done by stepping on the pedal though. I guessing they decided a simpler method of setting the time-sig on the RC-3/30 was preferable even though it limited the choices.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think on the RC-20XL you can get a click track or any other type of metronome in 5, 7, or whatever. You just have to step on the pedal how many times you want for beats (5 beats = 5 stomps).
@cdg2g thanks for your earlier responses, they were helpful. now, with the rc-30 i need to figure out how to listen to track 1 while recording on track 2 at the same time. i have succeeded in doing it a few times, but have mostly failed, and undone my work instead. please advise, or let me know if there is another tutorial vid... cheers, S
The rhythm guide isn't recorded as audio on a track. Since it's not recorded, it's not going to show up in the wav file when you connect it to your computer. If you want to get the audio and guide drums into your computer, you'll have to play it through the RC's outputs into your computer with a USB/Firewire audio interface. You then record that signal with a recording program like Cubase, Sonar, Protools, Garageband, etc. (same way you'd record a microphone into your computer).
Check my "Switch Between Track 1 & 2" video. If that doesn't help, you may need to call or email BOSS/Roland support to troubleshoot the issue further.
If you are using the RC-3, the process is a little different than the RC-30. I show this difference between the 3 and 30 in the video but it's easy to miss: On the RC-3: Hold down the Rhythm ON/OFF button until it changes to show the rhythm types. Once it does then LET GO of the button. Now you need to hold down the Rhythm ON/OFF button AGAIN, and this will bring you to the time signature screen. Hope that helps!
Hmm but I guess I still could use my own timing? like 30 seconds loop which will repeat immediately when I stop the recording? (thus ignoring the whole clicktrack/drumtrack deal) Thanks yet again, these matters are important if I'm getting one of these. Also could you say if you like it?
Can you get a click-track without it having to be a time-signature? Just 4th-notes? (thus be able to loop 5/4... 7/4... whatever) ...and can you store samples/loops to bring them up whenever you want? Thanks
Hi i also got the boss rc 30 pedal and i´ve got a question... I already figured out how to save your loops on the different tracks.. but when i plug the pedal into my computer i can listen to the loops i saved, but there are no drumbeats i used when i recorded the loop. so my question is if it´s possible to get the drumbeats on the computer?? maybe you can help me out .. thanks anyway ;)
Hi, really need some help. I was working on my pedal and now all of a sudden it will play track one or track two, but it won't play them together. Please help! I really need to get it working right again!!!
I would like to point out that you cannot toggle the time signature once a .WAV file is written on a bank. This pertains to the RC-3, I do not know if this is true for the RC-30.
can you upload a different time signature though. the manual says that you can upload .wav files. I don't know what those are exactly, but i was wondering if there was some way to like download a different type of time signature and upload it to the device. Or even a different type of rhythm beat within the time signatures available?
Wav files are audio files. Back when people ripped CD's to their computer, if they wanted the best audio quality they'd rip to uncompressed .wav instead of the compressed .mp3 format. This means you can upload any audio file to the RC-3/30 that you want. Getting it to sync is tricky but possible if the wav file's time sig is a variable of 3/4 or 4/4.
back again after 2 years haha. how do you change the actual tempo on the rhythm? and also what is the best way to control sound levels on a loop? like if I record the rhythm at one volume and the lead at another will the loop reflect that? and finally, no matter what type of amp i use, every signal through this pedal sounds different than it would straight through the amp. it sounds tinny like a keboard or a synth or something. why is that and is it avoidable? Thank you.
I don't like that in the first beat there is an accent on 1. I wish I could turn it on just like a normal traditional metronome which unfortunetely I do not owe. Is there an option to turn off this accent?
No you can't. The RC-3 & RC-30 only has settings for a 3/4 or 4/4 time signature. It doesn't have a 1/4 or 5/4 or 7/4 option. The RC's have 99 memories for storing/saving loops. So you can call them up anytime by going to that memory number.

Your a life saver, thanks a lot!
thnx a lot man, im really into getting the rc-3,
this helped so much!
@GeorgeKokkinis, There is no 7/8 time signature. The only time signatures this pedal has is 3/4 and 4/4.

That drum snare on the RC -30 I like. My RC-30 drum snare doesn't sound like that. How did you get that. My drum snare, sound more cheesy.. 🤔
Your video really helpful but can you tell me how do i set the tempo ( like i want it fast or slow) thanks

Hello,
Is it possible to set a precise tempo with the buttons on the RC-30 ?
Is there a way to lock in it place so that if you turn off or switch tracks the beat will already be set to 3/4?
Can you get a click-track without it having to be a time-signature? Just 4th-notes?
(thus be able to loop 5/4... 7/4... whatever)
...and can you store samples/loops to bring them up whenever you want?
Thanks
What about the tempo on the rc3. It takes me ages to get the correct tempo as when I press the adjust button it just seems to be completely randon
I was wondering, is the set tempo that is already on the station before you change it 120bpm?

@seamasmanly Look at my other videos for one on how to switch between tracks on the RC-30.
You could do that!
I love it!
hey man, literally holding down the type button and it won't switch over to the time signatures, it just keeps flashing the rhythm types.
is it possible to change the tempo of the beat when first starting? on first reading of the manual, it is not obvious. thanks!

Can I change signature to 7/8 ? Thank you in advance for your response

+BartoszXIV These rhythm patches are fixed. You'll have to pick a different rhythm patch that more closely matches what you need.
No you can't. The RC-3 & RC-30 only has settings for a 3/4 or 4/4 time signature. It doesn't have a 1/4 or 5/4 or 7/4 option.

It needs 5/8 & 7/8 at least...
No.
This is not possible.
Cheers, really helpful.
