Another great feature - You can connect your phone or drum machine in the 'Aux in' to play beats and while recording a guitar/bass loop you record the beat as well. So you do not have to stick to the stock rhythms.
Quick tip, after you record yourself for the first time it will playback and starts to record again which can be frustrating. This is the default mode, and it's more of a showcase mode. What I like and many other people like is after you record your first entry playback and don't record right away a new layer only when you tap the pedal again then tap to stop. So to change the mode you simply unplug the amp cable so the looper switches off and then hold the TAP TEMPO button and plug right back the amp cable. Then switch to the other mode by pressing the UP/DOWN button. Plug back and done. Now, you will add the extra layer only if you press the left button. Keep Rocking.

thank you for a video about this confusing looper with a clear tutorial! I've watched a lot of tutorials on the boss rc-30 and this is one of my favorites so far. Love the beats you came up with on your guitar as well :)

This video has helped me a lot. Reignited my interest in both playing my guitar and my Boss RC30. Your video is so much more informative and concise than the poxy manual. Thanks.
No one under the age of 65 should own that carpet - and even then, only if it’s been inherited :-) Have you noticed it comes with inbuilt stains of overly strong tea that your granny has spilled?
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve had my Boss Rc-30 for awhile and just couldn’t get my head around how it worked. This helped lot to understand the functions and the timing. For me I had timing issues, it you could see that as soon as you clicked down it started recording, I was always a bit slow doing that so it never sinned in to how I want Ed it to play and ended up feeling frustrated. Thanks for helping me sort that out and I’ll be practicing more to copy how you used the pedal. Nice one! 👍🏻
Someone else's tutorial showed holding the tap tempo button for 3 sec to access the 3 different ways of getting the thing to start recording. no is normal..by tapping the left pedal............AU is when you start playing......Ct gives you a 1 bar count in with the drum track. No other video I've seen shows this feature and it is VERY handy ! You're welcome.................
Very informative ... thank you for posting. The one very important feature that was left out was getting your Loops to sound in time! For perfect timing, you hold down the "tap tempo" button, which allows you to set the recording Mode. You will then see the flashing display of 3 modes, Normal, Automatic, and Counting. The Counting mode is used the most and is the most accurate for precise timing, followed by Normal, which requires a good ear and a good technical understanding. Perhaps there is a detailed explanation in the manual. Remember that Timing is of the utmost importance. I hope this is of some help ... thank you.
Great video! Most of the ones I've seen weren't as thorough in the process, especially with the second channel. Thats the one thing I hadn't figured out yet, so thanks for that! The steepest learning curve for me was being exactly on time regarding starting and ending the loop.
Hi. Indeed this is a much better video and I did enjoy it. For those that want it you can switch the start pedal so that when you hit it a second time after your first loop recording it goes straight to play only. And then you just press it again to over dub. Hope that helps. Keep up the good work
Is there a way to make both tracks start playing again at the same time after double tapping the right pedal? Or is it always going to be one or the other?
thank you thank you THANK YOU. i am a little gear phobic and this kind of step by step (stepping on by stepping on) is ESSENTIAL for my learning. the manual is virtually useless.
Oh. And your playing has evolved and improved by quantum leap!!! Incredible what practice does for ones performance abilities!!! Keep sharing your progress and creativity!!

So helpful, thank you!! I don't think you should delete your other video with SOOO many plays...maybe just edit the pinned/top comment in the Comment section so new people find this one (if they don't check the dialogue box under the video)
No problem and thanks, yeh I'll leave them both up for a while and that's a good idea. If this version starts to get more views than the other then I will delete it but I'll leave them both for the moment. :) thanks again.
I followed and nothing is coming through my p.a system unless I wire it differently and then just my microphone but not my guitar. If someone could help much appreciated!
Ava Grace make sure u are goIng into the mono inputs and outputs with your guitar, think they’re the left ones. If that doesn’t work maybe check all your cables work?
HarryPlaysGuitar done that! But only my microphone comes through the p.a system? My guitar seems not to be picked up by the looper? I've tried different cables too
you didn't mention his to delete things with one of the pedals on the 20xl, you just hold down the right pedal. i believe it's the same with the 300. i have both
I have one, and my biggest gripe is that they made that top panel that reflective pink-red with white lettering. Hard to read at the best of times, much less in a stage environment... I guess I should just use it enough to memorize what everything is...
Great video. I'm looking for a pedal that can footswitch between two different channels/loops while still being in sync so you can play a song with a different sounding verse and chorus. Can this pedal do that?
Hi Harry, thanks for the video it has really helped me. I have a Line 6 micro spider amp which sounds a bit tinny. What amp do you use in your video? Many Thanks again, Paul.
Hi! Both your videos are great!! 🙌 Is there quick a way to switch between a loop on channel 1 to a loop on channel 2 without an awkward stop and start? So to make it a nice smooth transition? Any advice would be great!
Thank you so much for this video! Buying as a surprise gift and have no idea about any of this so it has really helped me decide what one to get. Anything else (wires etc) I should buy/make sure we have alongside this? Thanks!
As long as the person has a two guitar cables you will be good. It can be powered by batteries though I would recommend getting a 9v power supply (make sure its rated for at least 195mA)
On my RC-30, the playback volume is ridiculously high compared to the thru signal, so that I must keep my volume sliders at about the second hash-mark; if I move them even slightly from their ideal position, the playback volume becomes radically high or radically low. In your first video you had the sliders set very low, but in this one it seems they are set higher, but still under halfway. Do you know of a solution to this problem? I looked thru the manual to see if maybe there was a master-volume knob somewhere, but cannot find any such thing. What I want to do is dramatically reduce the playback volume, so the I can have more dynamic range in my sliders. Thanks!!
It should be that the centre dash is unity and you can make it louder or quieter by moving it above or below that. That’s strange that it’s not doing that. If both sliders do it then it can’t be a dodgy slider. Maybe there’s some deeper setting that changes the output gain? If not I’m not too sure, sorry.
Will this unit when plugged into 2 amps. Can you record and then the signal will go to ONE and and you play through the other one? The BOSS DD7 delay does this. I really need to know. it's a deal breaker thing..
Hmm...I was with you at first but you lost me by the end. I’m needing to use mine to record vocals with harmonies. Would love to see a clear, simple demo of how to do that, without too many extras thrown in that are confusing to a brand new beginner. I’m guessing I’m not the only vocalist who struggles with technology!
Hi Harry, thanks for this video! Is there a way to clear the loop in either track 1 or track 2 while it's playing? Or is the only way to clear pressing the delete button twice? I'd like to be able to record a backing track, then record a solo, then while the backing track is playing, delete that solo and record a different solo.
Thanks for all the comments, about the video and about my playing. The main loop towards the end is from one of my bands songs, feel free to give it a listen :) ruclips.net/video/bvLTocKKpDI/видео.html
Not many simplifyed tutorials of this unit. Most people go right in the the professional set up. Start rambling about tecnial jargon . Some people are at the beginning. Nice one mate
thanks! very helpful.. don't delete the first demo , it was the first I saw and found it very helpful too! Have you done a more advanced one ? I'd love to see that one too!
great video man! due to get my pedal this week so your video will be a big help when i get confused with the pedal! i have heard that instead of using a guitar amp to jam i can just plug powered studio monitors into the rc30 as these have a built in preamp! is this true and have you tried this yourself?
Jamie elliot hey, I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you could power passive studio monitors with it as, whilst it does have a preamp, it doesn't have a power amp. You might be thinking of phantom power which can be used to power certain types of microphone. It does have that. Hope that helps!
@@harryvincent i was thinking active studio monitors as do have a pair of those! didn't know the pedal has phantom power nice one! guess that means i could plug in my condensor mic for acoustic recordings! i have just watched your older video too and also bookmarked it! looking forwards to getting the pedal now as a sole guitar player i can now be a one man band lol
Great video, I'm wondering how you delete a channel, or if you can do this. If you can, could you start recording on the empty channel while the previously recorded loop is still going?
Does anyone have problems when recording a loop and then stopping it (with right pedal, just because you dont wanna play it at that moment, but afterwards)? Because with tempo unnabled it's impossible for me to make the loop correctly (and i dont think it is a rhytmic problem).
Are you able to plug in an actual bass in one of the input channels, and then still have your guitar through the other? I'm really debating on purchasing this pedal, the boss rc-3 just doesn't seem like a reasonable buy; mostly because of the features you can get out of the rc-30 for just $20 more for a used one on ebay. Anyways, thanks in advance!
reallybadgas you can't have different pedals plugged into each channel but you can switch the cable to another instrument or buy a cheap switch pedal to switch instruments.
Trying to connect this to my Roland spd-ax and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the drum pad to connect to the loop. Do you know if the loop would need to go into the "foot pedal" input or just the regular ole input situation? I hope that makes sense.
Hi again Harry, i am getting along nicely now with this pedal but wondering, can i connect a multi effects guitar pedal to the RC 30? do you know? thinking rather than just buying lots of separate pedals i may as well go for a multi pedal for home use
Hello! Help please. The sound of the rhythm of my RC30 is too low. It is basically inaudible over my playing even though it is set to max level. Should I try with lower guitar and higher amp volume? It is my pedal broken? The pedal is in FX loop with BOSS BIC5 cables. Thanks everybody!
I mean the sound of your guitar playing back once you have made a loop. The dial controls for loop level are at the same volume as your guitar when they are half way up, if you have them on full then they will be much louder. It could be that?
@@harryvincent I can't even hear the rhythm for recording a loop. So I am not talking about a loop now. Just rhythm and my guitar. I want use it as reference like metronome.
Hi! Just wondering if you can tell me How do you record and play a solo over a rhythm without it looping the solo ? I record a rhythm loop try to record a solo over it but it loops it.. does the original loop have to just as long ?
Just switch to the other mode where it's only playback until you want to record/overdub again. Just un-plug the amp cable so the looper switches off and then hold the Tap Tempo button as you plug the amp cable back in. Then switch to the other mode by pressing the UP/DOWN button. Plug back in and done. So now you don't have to record right away but whenever you want to.
I have the RC-20XL and my loop only lasts for a few seconds then automatically plays it back, it’s my first looper I bought on Craigslist, if anyone can help me I just want loop some music.
I have noticed that when you double tap the right pedal, both channel stopped, but when you tapped the left pedal again, only the selected channel was playing, and you had to hold the right pedal to switch channel and tap the left to turn the other channel on again. Is there a way to turn on both channel at the same time, without having to switch and manually turn them on? Thanks in advance, this is a great tutorial! And very awesome demo too, I can listen to it all day :D
Could I play the recorded phrase on channel one, then stop channel 1 and start channel 2 simultaneously? Also, can you move to another bank while a channel is playing, then play the new channel and stop the previous one simultaneously? Thanks.
To your first question, no you can’t flip between channels like that, you can stop them simultaneously but they’re supposed to act as layers not different sections with the way it is designed. And I’m pretty sure once you actually commit to moving up a bank the previous one stops playing before you start the new one.
@@harryvincent Thanks. Your video and reply helped me decide to not go with the RC30 which I could have bought for 135€. I bought a Digitech JamMan Stereo for 100€ about four hours ago, and think it was definitely the right choice for me.
If anyone else wonders, yes: you can do what you asked in your second question. You just have to let the first track play, move to the other track and press play. Once the first loop is over the new one will immediately start
Hi, have a question, I am new to all this, your first video led me to this one and I am wondering with adding a mic for vocals and loops does it all have to go through a p. A system as its only for use in my private space to practice, as I have wanted to buy rc30 for a few years, just to progress, and I have an amp that has a mic and guitar imput, not good with all tech stuff and learning Self taught guitar a few years, at 50 year old brain plays mind games, hope I can get some feedback and I looked at this for few years your video made it easy to at least have a go at it cheers,
Hi Clifford, you can plug a mic and guitar into the pedal and take one cable out to the amp, then you can loop both. If you only want to loop the guitar then you can send the mic to the mic input of the amp and the guitar through the pedal. Hope that helps :)
@@harryvincent thanks for reply, so do I not need to have 2 imputs one for the pedal and one for the guitar,on the amp the one I have, it's portable, prob would get buskers using it as go's with battery's as well, or is there a t peice two way connector that can be used for two leads into 1 imput, then I mic it up, my amp only has 1 imput and 1 mic cheers, hope this makes sense lol, and apreciate you getting back to me ASAP. 😉
The guitar is sent through the pedal so your loop and guitar are mixed in the pedal to one output. Your mic can be mixed in the pedal aswell or you can plug it into your amp. Either should work
If you only knew how grateful I am for this! Thanks so much! A couple of questions... If I have recorded a couple of passes on one track and I make a mistake, how do I go over, just, that pass? Also, how long of a phrase can be recorded? Lastly, how many layers can be recorded on each track? Thanks!
+Christina Frith if you make a mistake you can hold the left footswitch for 2 seconds and it will undo the last pass but you have to be fairly quick about it. And the number of layers is pretty much endless as far as I know, I have never run out of memory.
I don’t think there’s a way to stop one and start the other at the same time, you would have to leave a bars gap. You can get an additional foot switch which lets you more quickly switch between controlling loop one and two
If you hit play, play something, and then hit stop... will it save what you were playing? and will you be able to play it back when you hit play again?
Well that’s kind of what this video is. 😂 u hit the left button, play, hit it again then you can press left to play and right to stop whenever you like.
great video again m8 , cheers for that............just one question, how do i get rid of a loop thats not saved, ive tried and tried to get rid of one in bank 1 without the dot, but as soon as i turn it on it starts playing
yeah i couldnt get it to delete no matter how many times i pressed it ( as i said, it wasnt saved to begin with ) so all i did in the end was go up a channel then back down and it was gone
yes. lets say u had a track on each channel. you can stop one independently of another (ie drop out the chords and just leave the beat, then bring it back in)
Another great feature - You can connect your phone or drum machine in the 'Aux in' to play beats and while recording a guitar/bass loop you record the beat as well. So you do not have to stick to the stock rhythms.
thats epic! plug phone in

I may do at somepoint in the future.
very cool I like your style of playing
Cheers! My band is called squarewave if you fancy checking us out, we're releasing an album next month. ruclips.net/channel/UCi8xn_YvLxMBma29ZQz86VQ
Great demonstration! Thanks!
First class tutorial. Could it record a full tune 2/3 minutes? Keep rockin' Gus.
Gus Turner thanks gus, no problem
@@harryvincent Nice one Harry. Never mind the comments about being in tune, so what? some people just enjoy being a know-all plonker. Keep rockin'
And yes it has loads of memory so you could record a whole tune. :)
@@harryvincent Thanks for the info'
Harry. May the force be with you, I shall go out and get one. Gus.
Can you connect it to a power source whilst having alkaline batteries inside? Will it cause a leakage?
great video man! due to get my pedal this week so your video will be a big help when i get confused with the pedal! i have heard that instead of using a guitar amp to jam i can just plug powered studio monitors into the rc30 as these have a built in preamp! is this true and have you tried this yourself?
You can undo the last thing you added but otherwise i'm pretty sure you have to delete everything.
Megan Coleman if the pad plays samples directly to an output then it should just go in the regular input, hope that helps
Megan Coleman did this work?
Great video mate! Is there a way of recording the build up of the riff? Like, from start to finish, rather than just the final loop?
Not really, you can have a second part on the second track but otherwise you have to build it up live.
great tutorial! Thanks :-)
Hi again Harry, i am getting along nicely now with this pedal but wondering, can i connect a multi effects guitar pedal to the RC 30? do you know? thinking rather than just buying lots of separate pedals i may as well go for a multi pedal for home use
Yes that would work, you can either put it before or after the pedal for slightly different ways of using it 👍🏻
@@harryvincent brilliant cheers man
Hello! Help please. The sound of the rhythm of my RC30 is too low. It is basically inaudible over my playing even though it is set to max level. Should I try with lower guitar and higher amp volume? It is my pedal broken? The pedal is in FX loop with BOSS BIC5 cables. Thanks everybody!
if the dial is on full then the rhythm should be easily audible, is your looped guitar at the right level?
@@harryvincent thanks for the quick reply. What do you mean by looped guitar? My guitar is at also at max volume. Maybe that's where I'm wrong?
Great video! I had one more question for you but how long can you record for on each track?
Mayhemic it’s something ridiculously long, I have never hit the limit
@@harryvincent dude sweet thanks! Thats great 😊 also I subbed for this spectacular video. Better late than never am I right?
The loop is about 3 hours long fyi ;) so ye, its something ridiculously long
@@thomusica dope thanks mah dude got mine over the weekend and loving it!
Mayhemic Awesomee!! Im getting mine tomorrow, really excited :))
And very awesome demo too, I can listen to it all day :D
iPSLee I don't think there is a way as they assume that if you're using two separate channels you will bring them in separately, and thank you :)
NebulousWeb ace, glad I could help :)
Thanks so much, Harry!
If you're using 2 channels and u stop it both, how do you play both of them at the same time
Is there a way to save your loops to another device?
I’ve never done it but you can plug it into a pc via usb and save your loops as wav files
@@harryvincent alright, I'll try that. Thanks!
Thanks
How in a performance setting can you record 2 tracks and bring them in, so for chorus and verse?
I don’t think there’s a way to stop one and start the other at the same time, you would have to leave a bars gap. You can get an additional foot switch which lets you more quickly switch between controlling loop one and two
Thanks so much , really helped me out
No problem :)
Thank you - this was really helpful x
No problem :)
Thank you much for this!
kabangob no worries!
Is there anyway to turn off the metronome with your foot? The only way I can do it is by reaching down and pressing the button with my finger
Not as far as I know sorry :(
If you hit play, play something, and then hit stop... will it save what you were playing? and will you be able to play it back when you hit play again?
Will Nolan yes
Thanks. Can you post a video of it?
Well that’s kind of what this video is. 😂 u hit the left button, play, hit it again then you can press left to play and right to stop whenever you like.
HarryPlaysGuitar ok I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m asking
Nice tune like “Yes” group
great video again m8 , cheers for that............just one question, how do i get rid of a loop thats not saved, ive tried and tried to get rid of one in bank 1 without the dot, but as soon as i turn it on it starts playing
+Bung Taylor pressing the delete button twice should do it.
yeah i couldnt get it to delete no matter how many times i pressed it ( as i said, it wasnt saved to begin with ) so all i did in the end was go up a channel then back down and it was gone
Ah well as long as it's sorted :)
So to stop everything at once you would have to double tap the left switch? Is there any work around to this like a boss fs 5u pedal?
Double tap the right switch and yes I think it might be easier with a footswitch but you would have to check up on that.
Hi. I use a fs 5u pedal with mine . You can use 2 in conjunction. I find it useful to easily switch between the two tracks.
hi mate, great video, really helpful. I was just wondering, would it be possible to use this looper with a keyboard? Cheers
+JJS Gaymes yep, works exactly the same, it actually has a stereo in and out aswell
Hi there, quick question can you when playing stop the loop and then restart it ! So if you come to a bridge in a tune, then restart!? Cheers
yes. lets say u had a track on each channel. you can stop one independently of another (ie drop out the chords and just leave the beat, then bring it back in)
Awesome video
thanks
Lifesaver - thank you!
