I remember this game well...especially how mad I got seeing the Raptors fall apart near the end of them game. I couldn't, and still can't, deny how amazing Dirk is from beyond the arc though.

they already took a big risk with the kidd trade, no need to trade away another great young player, they have a great mix of young and experienced players, i think they are just fine right now

That's fair enough, I can't see myself rank him above 15th considering the all-time elite. It's a hard point to give merit though, because we can't judge players based on their resume if so much of it depends on the successes of their teams and not how they perform in their own right. There are a great deal of excellent players who were just invalidated by slightly better players on better squads. Dirk deserves props for being one of the innovators in the game, mainly due to his unorthodox form.
Haha cant pin down a year? He was by far the best player in 2010-2011. Dirk puts himself in the best position to win every year, and has been for over a decade. Dude is one of 4 all time greats to post 25-10 avg in the playoffs. You can't do much until you have a good team to back you up. See: LeBron James. When Dirk was finally coupled with a post player in Chandler that could actually get more boards than him and let him ease up on D, Nowitzki finally won a ring, go figure. Gtfo
PLUS: He did heroic stuff like dropping 40 in the west finals, carry HUGE comeback runs, play thru a flu and high fever (WINNING THE GAME!) and more.
He has one of VERY FEW undefendable moves, is humble (if he was glamorous noone would doubt his greatness, cause americans LOVE that!), hard working and has NO scandals. As a sportsman, he is close to being "unmatched", as a player amongst the very few the league will remember forever NOT because something they did OFF the court...Dirk is top10 imo
i heard all of them being quoted on this topic on TNT with Chuck and Shaq after the finals' game 4. Not having it researched i won't say it's a fact but those guys on there know these legends personally, so...idk
To Dirk: I'd rank him in there solely for the fact that he is undefendable,unique, carried his team into the playoffs year after year for over a decade, beat the team that had #1, #2 and #4 of the efficiency rating in the season before and everyone called unbeatable in a playoff run!

there is a big possibility that he can do it because most of the shooting guards has ranged perimeter and 3 point area ..But a PF like Dirk and to a 7 flat ..it is very unusual ..no,it is very fucking unbelievable ..because most of the 7 footers are working in painted area and perimeter range ..while Dirk can play in paint,perimeter range,and beyond he ark ..
@CrazedMavericks23 Bill Russell is best in history, D. Howard is best active. Dirk is the best shooting big man ever and by far the best european player ever to play in the NBA. (which should give him the nod for the hall of fame since you see players like Divac get in just for being decent and international) I'm a huge mavs fan, have been since I was really young and when the Mavs got Dirk, but he is not the best big man in history.
Question whats wrong with dirks defense? He isnt a shot blocker, anderson varejao get 2nd all team defense and he doesnt even play good defense. Noah when he got hurt the bulls allowed 9 more pts a game and varajao got the award playing 20 minutes a game, whos saying dirk doesnt play defense? He is a good rotating defender and is 7 feet so when he switches he always makes it tough. Let me put it this way, he can guard duncan but duncan cant guard dirk.
@reviseyourdemise True cause back then when they verse teams that was quite tall like the lakers back then with bynum and all them they were struggling to keep the points in the paint low, but i think a pg for them like kidd was the most important part of their team since they usually had whoever had the ball go in and basically try to score

Lebron is really really far from Kobe and MJ, but what as we all know lebron will be the face of the NBA for the next five years or more.
@Francozilla There is actually... But it's difficult. If the defender pressures his dribbling he will stop him 3-4 times. Which is as close to stoping Dirk from scoring that you'll ever come. A couple days ago Greece played a friendly match with Germany and the Greek defenders did a great job of holding him down ( he scored 7 pts. or something playing 20+ min.)
Dirk is up there with the best of them. I like him. Not too much show, he lets his actions talk. He's a beast. I would so grant him a championship ring, because he is and was always so loyal to the Mavs and he said he wanted to play there until he wins one. Even though it will be hard, he's someone who would SO deserve it. Go Dirk.
Trade howard he can't step up when they need him. He has value get someone who can support Dirk. Chris Kamen would be perfect. Move Bass in the lineup as a starter with Dirk, now Dirk can roam and drain those 3's and have support down low. Kamen is the answer for this team.

@ehad972 Nah, Dirk injured the same knee that he injured last year when he missed 2 weeks and look at what he did in the playoffs. Dirk's game doesn't rely heavily on athleticism, his footwork is good enough to get him good shots, unlike Lebron.
Its weird dallas never won a championship back then i mean a lot of their players could score, like devin harris, jason terry(prob best 6th man ever), josh howard, and the man himself dirk nowitski, i think they only were missing a stable pg like kidd

Devin Harris, Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Dirk Nowitzki used to be a terrifying lineup. If you could have swapped Kidd in for Harris (back in the day), and put Chandler at center.. They'd have won titles LONG before they assembled.
Carlisle is doing a pretty good job, actually. Look at what they've done after the 2-7 start. If the guys don't practice hard, give it their all, whatever else, they don't play. It's working pretty well so far. The rest is on the players.

watching all of these highlights should show everyone how these dude has been doing it for a long time. Too many of these talking heads act like he just became great.

I liked the comeback game in the '06 season better...I went there. We were down like 86-60 in the forth quarter and we came back and won in overtime.
