      Thanks for watching ! I heard they are bad in Florida and breed and spread fast ! Best to go out after dusk with a torch and catch the toads as well or practice your golf swing ! >ruclips.net/video/4I6vftg3UIU/видео.html

    Great idea. I made one small modification to balance the lid. Increase the hole size slightly and insert the tip of a nozzle from a silicone tube. A small weight at the bottom and hey presto perfect balance. The length of the tube extends the distance of the weight from the lid and stabilises it. Note too big a weight though or it will dampen the lid tipping.

      Sounds like a good idea Phil.I found a longer 20 L bucket is better as large toads can jump high and a smear of vaseline or wd or canola spray arond top of bucket helps to >ruclips.net/video/4I6vftg3UIU/видео.html

    What do you use to make the trap door? The bottom of another bucket? Or the lid?
    I have serious problems with these toads and I want to make a few of these.

    ; want to make sure it's small enough for them to jump in but not jump out easily. Thank you,

      I found out that big toads could get out of this 3 gallon bucket even with vasoline smeared around top of bucket and changed to a deeper 5 gallon bucket>ruclips.net/video/4I6vftg3UIU/видео.html

    How to catch a Cane Toad. Australian accent optional ;)

  • @moreapropos
    @moreapropos 8 лет назад

    I was just wondering if you couldn't just get an opaque plastic bag, put it over the top, and tighten it with a bungee cord or something, then put a slit in the middle. Wouldn't the frog just fall in with no way to really jump out?

    • @roxyhasyoutube
      @roxyhasyoutube 7 лет назад

      no because they will become crusty and you dont want that

      Use the longer 5 gallon bucket or smear vaseline around top of bucket as the big toads are good jumpers and climbers !

    nice whats the hook for bait???

    • @jjgrice018
      @jjgrice018  10 лет назад +2

      The solar light attracts moths and the hook is for an earthworm or any bait as these toads have a great sense of smell ! Also a small amount of water in the bucket will attract toads as well as leaving a female toad in the trap will attract male toads!

      I had a family of 4. They expanded in 15. Too dangerous for dogs, cats, birds, lizards and little green frogs.

    Something keeps stealing my bait and I'm not catching any cane toads. I'm using little pieces of chicken. The cane toad I've been seeing around is about 5 in diameter. She's a big one. She laid a bunch of babies in my shed. So I'm really serious about getting her. But every morning I get up and the chicken is gone and there's no toad in the bucket. Please don't ask me to thread a worm onto the hook.

    • @jjgrice018
      @jjgrice018  6 лет назад

      Big toads get out the small bucket unless you smear vaseline or WD40 around top of bucket and use 2 cheap solar lights to attract moths etc and leave a toad in bucket to attract others if you catch one.See update here>ruclips.net/video/4I6vftg3UIU/видео.html

    • @berrybertin7291
      @berrybertin7291 9 лет назад

      ok... so its also a good way to catch them and just investigate them

      Be careful as Cane toads have poison glands on their necks and poison many native animals and pet dogs !

    • @jjgrice018

      Put them in the fridge for 2 hours and they go to sleep and then into the freezer !

    • @CyberMachine

      Anything else besides taking them into my home? I'm terrified of them and my dog will eat it if one escapes

      Put some Dettol in a spray bottle and spraying them in a bucket should kill them without suffering !
